The fundamental thing I look for in a service industry that I have limited expertise in is transparency, competency, and trust. Charlie's provides all of these things. I trust them implicitly with my cars. Their transparency about what they can and cannot do is refreshing and reassuring. I took a vacation to Tennessee, I live in Michigan, brake line on my truck snapped in Kentucky on Sunday a few miles from this shop, they were able to get me right in and out on Monday morning so I could get back on the road. they were cheaper than I would have thought too. if I wasn't a mechanic myself, I would drive from Michigan to here for any repair. read more

They were very honest with me about a specific repair I needed and even advised me to not repair the car based on the repair being more expensive than the car. Charlie's didn't actually do any work on my car--had it towed there because it was close by when my car suddenly quit working on New Circle. However, I had an exceptional customer experience with them. About an hour after my car was towed, Chris called me to deliver the bad news that timing belt snapped and resultantly, my engine was ruined. Although I was shocked, he put me at ease with his friendliness and helpfulness. He was patient with me even though I wasn't quite sure how to handle the logistics of the situation. Will never go back. People there are friendly, but the quality of work is terrible. Brought my car to them after being referred, for a simple part replacement and oil change. They incorrectly installed the part, and put too much of the wrong oil in the car. After paying for their "service", I quickly figured out that there was something off with the car. Took it to another garage, and $500 later had everything resolved. When I called Charlie's to inform them, no refund offer, no apologies. These guys came recommended to me by a friend who gets all her pre-owned car purchases vetted by them, and all her repair work. I described the problem to Chris over the phone, and he immediately suggested the likely problem, whereas the dealership had charged me $190 to run a diagnostic and claimed they were baffled. My daughters vehicle was repaired and everything works great however, they charged her $214.00 for part which you can buy at autozone or advanced auto for $100.00. Labor per hour charge was reasonable, total cost for replacing an alternator on a 97 jeep was $294.00. They overcharged a college student at least $100.00! Come on guys......you do not want to continue operating like this in a college town! Do not take your vehicles to this place in Lexington, KY. read more
