Will and sailor are both awesome guys. My husband has had work done by sailor. And I have had work done by Will. Both experiences were great! First the shop is clean. The tattoo artists are knowledgable and also very friendly. I have had two pieces done by Will. My first piece was a "sisters" "best friend" tattoo. He did exactly what we wanted. And after it healed without any problems we both look at it every day loving it. We went back and my sister got a Hummingbird on her foot she adores it and he listened to her wants and did such an amazing job. Rene does great work and is so nice. He worked with me on what design I wanted and listened to the things I didn't want. My tattoo took 3,5 to 4 hours long , he stopped when I needed a break and didn't get upset at me for that. The shop is clean and well taken care of. There was another guy there tattooing people and i noticed that after each client was done he cleaned the area they were at really good. Parking is great with a 7 11 in the same lot so you can grab something if need be. My ink is still new as I got it 3 days ago and I love it so much . read more

I recently went to 1st Amendment for my first tattoo, after checking out a few other shops in Simi Valley. I found the work of both Rob and Will to be superb, but went with Rob. I told him what I wanted, or at least thought I wanted, and also told him what I wanted to convey with my tattoo as the symbolism was very important to me. I put my trust into Rob and asked him to come up with a design. I was blown away with what he came up with for me and have had no regrets! I get compliments from people of all ages, even women in their 80's. Also, I found the process to be completely painless, not even one flinch! I would gladly choose to put myself under Rob's needle for four hours, as opposed to a 20 minute visit with a dentist, which is far more painful. These guys are great. No diva syndrome, no big Battle of the Egos, just down-to-earth, honest guys who are a lot of fun to work with. The atmosphere in the shop is loose, relaxed and positive. Straight forward? Yes. Rude? Not that I have ever seen. My husband just had his first tattoo done by Will, equally superb, and we are both looking forward to our next tats with these guys. Regarding some comments about them charging too much for their artistic services, I say that is total bollocks. They earn every cent they charge. As a professional in the arts myself I can fully empathize with the feeling of insult when others do not want to pay a decent price for the benefit of your time and expertise. read more

OH MY FREAKING GOD!!!!! For years I have been wanting a tattoo of The Danish flag. There was a certain way in my head and every place I went to couldn't get it right. After my mom passed a month ago I wanted something to honor her too. So I thought why not do both? I came in right before closing one night (before calling ahead) about a month ago and had Mike do my nostril piercing. Very friendly and I was in and out in no time. For the tattoo I received, though impromptu, it was over priced and the artist was completely disinterested. He seemed irritated inwas 2 hours before his closing time. 3 weeks later I arrived for my "promised touchup" to fix white lines in thick lined black art. His words were- not all tattoos are going to be perfect. You're always going to see imperfections. I told him I didnt want to impose, and asked if he was currently free. He said he was. I said I would like the touch up. He became visibly irritated and agitated in the way he was speaking, down to me at this point. He stated, if I wanted another tattoo, he would do one. I asked, are you saying you'll do my free touch up, or are you saying you'll charge me full price to touch up.your work? He said I'll charge you for another tattoo, because I'm not going to waste needles or material (black ink?) for minor fix ups. Isnt that what a free touch up entails? 1 star for you Mark. I might appear mousey, but I know what my money is worth. And what I paid you for wasnt worth what I have, even had you included the touch up. Thanks, I guess. read more

I went here yesterday to get a tattoo on my arm. I had made an appointment with Riq the weekend before. There was only 2 guys in the shop the two times I went in, but each time everyone was really friendly and helpful. I got the silhouette of 7 crows on the side of my forearm, and Riq did an amazing job and I got exactly what I wanted. He's got 2 new customers with my husband and I. Don't typically write reviews, however after my experience and reading the two negative reviews, I felt compelled to write this one. I was recommended to Rob by a friend, and have also heard good things about the shop in general through word of mouth. First off, to the MORON who got a lip tattoo, WTF were you thinking, you got a tattoo in a moist area and you expected it to not fade away??? Do some research, the majority of people who get lip tattoos don't have good results and they typically don't last long with MANY of the people getting them experiencing the SAME THING YOU DID. Then you expect a free touch up? Please pass me whatever the hell you're smoking because it MUST be some good stuff. Secondly, Steven, they are free to charge what ever they want, I have seen plenty of their work in person and in their portfolio's and it's quality. Is it the best out there, no, but it's damn sure a notch above average and NOT $100 dolar art. People, PLEASE keep in mind, this isn't about what YOU think they should charge, you're paying for artwork, price is very much so based on quality of the work along with sit time. Sure Stephanie probably could have gone somewhere else and paid less, maybe even less then $100 but would the quality of her work be near as good? I can assure you not. There is a few other places in Simi that garner much attention, I will leave them unamed, but two in particular pop into my head and they would NEVER get my business, when you get a bad vibe just by looking at the people in a shop, that's never good. Now, onto Rob and Will, great dudes. Rob is very much BLUNT and straight forward, he doesn't mix words and will be flat out honest with you. I prefer this over someone who sugar coats something as to not "hurt my feelings". Some may call this being an asshole, I call it being honest which I applaud. Rob took his time to explain to me the ins and outs of the tattoo I was thinking of getting. After making up my mind a deposit was put down and an appointment made. Even though I changed my mind the last minute of what I wanted done, Rob couldn't have been nicer. Granted I just wanted some simple text and it wasn't like I changed my mind after he spent hours drawing something up (which I would not recommend doing). We sat down and he got to work. He was easy to converse with and was professional during the sitting. Will had a customer while Rob was doing my arm and I observed Will to be just as accomodating to his client as Rob was too me. Overall the experience was a great one, and my tattoo turned out great. Both Will and Rob were great to deal with. Should I decide on more ink, I will be back to First Amendment. read more
