He is not heavy handed, not light, just right. Gavin and the other artists here are the best in Simi Valley, likely all of Ventura County, and they're also extremely interesting and fun people. I booked an apt with the co-owner Gavin for the 15th. I took the day off work only for him to tell me he accidentally double booked and that we would need to reschedule. We rebooked for the 8th at 4pm and he texted me the day of an hour before that he wouldn't be able to do the session due to a tattoo running late before me (that's two days requested off work burned). On top of all this he told me that he would sketch up my art and send me reference pictures of it before my apt date on the 8th which never came, (see attached texts). He never mentioned refunds being non-refundable when asking for it initially and then denied my request for mine back after he failed to show me my drawing and failing to make my apt. I ended up losing my $200 deposit and two days taken off work due to his lack of organization and unwillingness to do the right thing. He offered to reschedule again FOR A THIRD TIME and use the deposit as store credit. I told him that I just wanted my deposit back and no hard feelings but he denied it even though it was totally his fault. I attached some texts for proof for anyone who doesn't believe me. I was never rude or mean in any way while communicating with him and he still wouldn't return my deposit. DO NOT COME HERE!!!! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! There's plenty of other better tattoo shops around well worth checking out instead. My recommendation is MDs tattoo studio. read more

For my entire life I said, "I'm getting my first tattoo when I'm 45!" Well, I'm almost 46. I kind of knew what I wanted. I had a concept and about a hundred pictures and certain words. It was very a sentimental gesture to memorialize my beloved dad. A story I wanted to tell but could never get through three words without crying. So I wanted to say it with my tattoo. I went to all the tattoo artists in Simi, almost interviewing. I know it sounds weird, but I needed to connect with the artist. Not find someone who just wants s picture to copy or some jerk off who couldn't care less. So, how did I decide on what to permanently put on my body in an extremely painful way? I took my specific concept, hundred pictures and certain phrase to GAVIN at Revolt. He listened to my story, took my pictures, concept and phrase and by the following week, combined EVERYTHING into a beautiful picture that made me cry. Ok. Pictures done. Now what?? Oh! That's right. Took a bottle of Jack Daniels with me and laid down. It actually wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. Almost... enjoyable, therapeutic, exciting. Maybe that was the whiskey. I got a tattoo 15 years ago, and hated it ever since. I'd wanted to get it covered up for years, but I was reluctant to do it, because I didn't want another tattoo that I regretted right after. When I finally decided to get it covered up, I started looking around for the tattoo artist I wanted to do it. Not that I'm snobby, but I just felt I had to click with the artist. The search went on for a few years. I meet several artists, but never found the one I wanted to draw on my skin with a tattoo gun. Then one day I saw a friend's photo on a social media site. He had a ridiculous tribal arm band tattoo covered up by Riq, and the end result was amazing!! The next week I came in to see Riq at his shop and decided on the spot that I wanted him to do my cover-up. I scheduled for the next day for the work to be done. On the day of my appointment I rolled in and he had a design he thought would look really good, and I pretty much let him do what we thought would look best. He did a free hand drawing where the tattoo was going to go, he had me look at it and he proceeded to put it on my skin. I wish I could write that it was a pain free experience, but I would be lying. Getting a tattoo does hurt, but Riq seemed to move around to different areas often to as if he was giving each area a rest. At least that's what it felt like to me. When he was all done and I looked at his work, I knew I had made the right choice by going to him. It looked amazing, and I was very happy with it!! I would highly recommend anyone looking to get a tattoo to come to Revolt and see Riq. You won't be disappointed! I am already picking out a design for my next tattoo and I am calling Riq to schedule an appointment when I decide in it. read more

Just got my 6th tattoo here (first time at this shop) and I can confidently say this is the best experience yet. Darren was the artist that worked with me and he was very professional, helpful, patient and kind. What made me feel most at ease and comfortable was when he said he would redo the stencil as many times as it was needed for me to feel 100% satisfied before he tattooed. He did an incredible job, lines are perfect, straight and very clean. He also gave really great advice on placement which was very helpful. I highly recommend this shop and Darren. I'm truly lucky to have been referred to Riq. I'm lucky to know people who knew him. I finally decided to get a tattoo (my first) which I was planning for over 8 years. It required incredibly straight lines and precision work. I came in his new shop to check out his catalogue and was very impressed with his work, including his straight lines which my tattoo heavily relied on. His newly opened shop is well equipped and all supplies including needles are brand new and disposable. I manage a dental office so I can tell that the environment and the supplies were clean and sterile. Riq does amazing freehand work, but here I was asking him to do a very specific, very technical image with lots of straight lines. "No problem" he said! I emailed him the image, told him the maximum dimensions and scheduled an appointment in 3 weeks. When I came in, we made some slight modifications to the image right there on his shop computer. He printed the image, traced it and transferred the image to my shoulder. I had a different placement in mind, but boy am I glad I trusted him entirely with the placement of the tattoo. Just 45 minutes later, I was done. His hand is THAT steady and he is THAT good. It could not have turned out better. He is one of the most professional people I've ever dealt with and a really nice guy to boot. I'm truly grateful for his amazing work and I'm already getting used to being complimented on just how nice my tattoo is. I'm so glad my friend referred me to bloodlust. After work one day i got the biggest urge to get a tattoo that i've been wanting for a while. I spoke to Darren, one of the artists, and described to him what i was wanting. Other shops i had been talking to told me what i wanted would cost me about $100 even though every last one of them told me that it wouldnt take long at all to do. Darren told me he would do it for $75 and then informed me that they closed at 7:30pm that night so i rushed over as fast as i could because it was already 6:45 pm. When I arrived I was instantly greeted with a big smile and i could tell he was excited to get started. Its so refreshing to see someone who loves what they do as much as he did. I showed him a picture of what i wanted, with minor changes, and we got started. After the stencil, setting up the machines, and everything to artists do to get set up, he only took about 30 minutes to do my tattoo and made sure that i was absolutely in love before I left the store. And let me say Darren, i LOVVEEEEEE it. Bigger stores normally are busy and somewhat short with their customers. I have never had such amazing quality of customer service. I will defiantly be returning to get my other tattoos done by Darren. :) read more

Riq is an amazingly talented and considerate artist and I will never again let anyone else tattoo me! When I had my initial consult with him, he came across as caring and was interested in my vision as well as explaining how his vision could blend with my own (he didn't try to overtake my vision with his own). He did a full sleeve on my arm and had to work around some existing tats and did it with such flair and skill that it all blends seamlessly and looks beautiful. If you've ever had your upper arm (inside and by the armpit) and 'the ditch' worked on, you know how much it freakin' hurts...Riq somehow managed to keep me laughing while working on those areas, caring about my comfort and experience as a whole.
