Kalib has been my hairstylist for over three years now so when he recently began working with 19 Blue Salon I had to follow! I called to make an appointment and the receptionist was very friendly and accommodating. She was able to get me in at a time that did not conflict with my work schedule. That's one of the things I love about Kalib and the salons he works with, Kalib is so accommodating and his main priority is always to put his clients first. I have not met a hairstylist that is as talented and humble as Kalib. My experience was fun and I walked out feeling fabulous! I got balayage done, my expectations were exceeded. I have a lot of hair which can be stressful sometimes when stylists complain about how much hair I have and how long it is taking. Fortunately Kalib never makes me feel like my abundance of hair is a pain and we use the time to catch up. I am always in awe with all of his traveling stories. He is a Davines color educator so he gets to travel to give courses and take them as well. I have never met anyone as knowledgeable and committed as Kalib. He cherishes his work and clients. In addition to fun catching up stories, Kalib asked if I'd like a beer while we waited for the color to lift so I obliged. This is not the first time he's gone above and beyond. In the past when I go in early in the morning he'll be waiting for me with coffee and/or breakfast. I never expect these kind gestures but it is in his nature! Now, that is definitely not the reason I keep going back to him. I keep going back because my hair always looks fabulous and boosts my self-confidence by several points! About the salon: it is located in a prime downtown Santa Barbara location with plenty of public parking around. It is a small to medium size with a cozy feel. The decor has a very Santa Barbara feel with boats and ocean inspired objects. They have Caribbean coffee on tap and very friendly staff. I'm excited for future visits with Kalib here. What an amazing experience, and a cute salon. I've been going to Ryan since I was 18, and he's just a true artist. I love his approach in walking me through the look I'm looking for, and adding his expertise to give me a realistic spin on what that look would look on me. He's always made me feel comfortable, and always over delivers. Every single time I have my hair cut with Ryan, it's an amazing experience, and to add to it, I receive so many compliments on the beautiful cut. This was a very special cut for me... I wanna start by saying that everyone was very nice to me and I felt comfortable during my time there. The 2 star rating is because my haircut is really just that bad. I'm extremely upset at how stupid it looks and spend every day wearing a hat just waiting for it to grow out. It wasn't cut at all like I requested and I have no idea why. It's embarrassing and looks terrible. I feel guilty writing this review, but it's been eating me up. I asked for shoulder length hair and they cut off like all of my hair to where you can't even reasonably consider it shoulder length. I go here especially to see my wonderful hair stylist, Danielle! I have very long hair and she always knows just what to do with it. She does amazing work with balyage. I had virgin hair before I came to her and was nervous about dying my hair but it was the best decision ever! I get compliments all the time and people asking me about my cut and color. Danielle also gives the best shampoos and blow drys. She never leaves out the refreshing massage and always makes my hair look like it's straight out of a magazine. Pete has been doing my hair for the last 5 years, and even though I've recently moved to LA, I'm still making the trip up to Santa Barbara to see him! Pete has never disappointed with his color and styling choices and I strongly recommend him to all of my friends. In 2018, Pete worked miracles and took me from a dark brown to a beautiful, ashy platinum blonde while keeping my hair smooth and healthy. I get compliments all of the time on my color and I've been hooked since! Despite trying some of the best salons in West LA, I realized I'd be wasting my time and money going anywhere else. Such a disappointment. It took an arm and a leg to get out of the house today for a much awaited hair apt. I have a newborn and a toddler at home and paid a babysitter to be home with them while I escaped mom life for just a bit. I arrived and the front desk girl just asked who I was and said oooh I'm sorry but we had to cancel your apt. I asked why they never called me and what a terrible inconvenience it was and she said they think they had the wrong number. This was the second time this salon has cancelled an apt on me and written down the wrong number so I arrived to find out it was cancelled. I asked politely to talk to the owner to see if there was anything they could do to accommodate me and she just said "what do you want me to do?" "Fire everyone??". She also mentioned that the person who was set to cut my hair also has a newborn and a toddler at home. Ok...why is that relevant to you guys messing up my apt and offering NO options or consolation to try and make up the money I spent on the babysitter and my time (it's so hard to get time away from the little ones ). She could have easily made space for me. It was a haircut. I told her I don't care who does it and it doesn't even need to be styled. She could have offered me a discount on my next visit. Anything. Instead she huffed and puffed flustered that they had been closed for 2 months and blew up at me so I walked away after telling her I would be writing this review. What a shame. Ellie was fantastic! She was recommended to me at the Carlyle because they were full, and I'm so glad she was. She agreed to come in early to give an elopement blowout. I had a specific thing I wanted with the curls and she checked out my photos and executed it perfectly. Great Santa Barbara haircut without the Santa Barbie PRICE! I think working with scissors is a trained skill not shared by many but I cringe when paying more than say $70 for a trim. I've been to a number of "pretty good" places in Santa Barbara and figured unless I wanted to visit Walter Claudio (where many of my friends with fabulous hair go), I'm stuck with a "pretty good" cut at a hefty price. Here, I paid much less ($50 - haircuts start at $45 and go to $70) for an actual haircut where Ann cut my hair up to my shoulders. Yikes! What's worse, I like it! The yelp hype is TRUE. This place is fabulous! Park at the shopping center for free, sip on tea while they cut your hair, enjoy conversation (not too fluffy or too heavy or too personal), and leave with a great cut! By the time I got to Macys across the street, I had already received two compliments. read more

I've had two separate experiences here and both were great although my last one far exceeded my first! The first time I visited 19 Blue i was in dire need for a haircut. I'm not typically the type of person that is okay with dropping a lot of money on my hair and especially being a broke just out of college kid I was perfectly content to hand my hair over to friends with kitchen shears. Now that i'm on my feet a little bit I decided i was due for a real salon experience and looked to Yelp for a place to go. The first time I went I got a cut from Shanna who was perfectly sweet and attentive. I left feeling good but not the "amazing" that I was hoping for. I liked the salon enough to try it again and this time booked Savannah for a cut and color. OMG what a difference. with minimal instruction (i like to let the pros do what they do, i know nothing about hair) she turned my "meh" hair into rich luscious locks. I spent a good amount of time in the chair but that doesn't bother me at all, I'd rather a stylist take their time then rush me through an appointment. She is genuinely sweet without trying too hard to make conversation which I appreciate so so much. This salon is the best in the west and Ann (the owner) is the best stylist a girl can get. Ann used to work at Salon Bamboo, but she's since opened her own shop. The vibe is hip and comfortable. I've been going to Ann for over 5 years, and even though I moved to LA, I still drive up to SB to get my hair done. There is no distance I wouldn't travel to see Ann. Ann has been with me through the thick and thin (pun intended). I first came to her as a hair virgin, only having had mild highlights and very minimal styling in my cut. Our relationship grew to chopping off my hair in spiky mullets, to shaving part of it and dying an apple in the shave part, to purples, greens, blues, blacks, etc. Those days are now past and my hair is long and a pretty brown and the cut just rocks. Point being...Ann can do ANYTHING. And do it well, with great conversation to boot. She is seriously the best I've ever found, and living in LA, that says a lot. I'd recommend Ann to anyone. Once you see her, you'll never go to anyone else. I still get stopped in the street by people asking me where I get my hair done. Luckily, I always have one of Ann's cards on hand. Went back for another haircut last week with Savannah (I refused to have anyone else cut my hair after she did a fabulous job last time--I went 8 months without cutting (I was abroad).. won't do that again haha). My hair looked fantastic exiting the salon and just as good a week later (even when I don't blow dry it). She also managed to bring my normally limp hair to life! I have texture and volume!! yay :) Would recommend her in a heartbeat. Oh, and make sure to check out the bathroom!! Last fall I wanted to go for a big change from my natural dirty-blonde hair to auburn, and I had yet (in my four years here) to find a place in SB I really liked. I had looked into 19 Blue and one other place, called about appointments/availability, and honestly was leaning toward the other place, but I wanted to do it ASAP and 19 Blue had the soonest slot available. I am SO glad it worked out that way, because Kim is the BEST stylist I've ever allowed to mess with my hair! She is sweet and genuine (which makes long appointments so much nicer versus the more common fake or rude stylists I've dealt with). She listens to what I want and gives thoughtful advice when I ask for it. She never rushes through an appointment; she is careful, meticulous and always does a great job making sure the lengths match on each side, the layers aren't uneven or too bulky or too thin, etc. Last night I went in to do another BIG change -- this time, donating ten inches and going BLONDE! I wasn't nervous at all, and my hair turned out even better than I had hoped! The only reason I can't give five stars is that I've had some issues with the receptionist(s) when I call to make or adjust appointments. My name isn't super common, so I understand when people don't understand me over the phone, but I've spelled it out and still been written down as "Cataba" instead of Tabitha. To their credit, though, my last couple appointment setup calls have been much more successful and pleasant. Seriously, if you're looking for a great place to make your "hair home" -- this is it. I've also had a cut and color done by Shanna, and she is excellent as well. I personally prefer Kim because she knows my hair now that I've been with her awhile, but I'm sure Shanna and everyone else at the salon is top notch! read more

This is the best salon I've ever been to, and Ann is the best hairdresser! She does AMAZING color and cuts, and is really versatile - a lot of girls in my sorority with completely different styles/hair textures/color demands/etc see Ann and she has done amazing things with each of their hair. Unfortunately I've been spoiled by Ann and since moving away from Santa Barbara a couple of months ago have been pining away for 19 Blue. I just can't seem to find anyone who is as precise, close to the root or creative as Ann is with color. And her prices are very reasonable considering her expertise. The only downside is that she is booked out well in advance so be sure to call at least a month before you need an appointment. Ok, So I went to the salon after reading all the other reviews. I also went there because it is walking distance from my work. I had a hair consultation with Nicole. She is very nice and personable. She had some really good ideas for my hair so I made an appointment for the following saturday. While I was there I set up an appointment the next day for an eyebrow wax with Michelle. Michelle is an amazing eyebrow artist!!!!! I don't think my eyebrows have ever looked better!!!! I would recommend this salon to anyone and everyone who wants waxing done. Michelle is great! I have yet to get my hair done by Nicole. I will update my review after saturday. Love my new hair cut. Let Nicole do whatever she wanted and did not disappoint me. Would recommend to anyone. Danielle is amazing. She did the keratin treatment on my hair and now it is so soft. She took her time with it and really did her best to make sure that the treatment would last as long as possible on my hair. She also recommended shampoo/conditioner that would help keep the treatment. My hair was lopsided. One side was was longer than the other. Danielle was able to fix it and now my hair is amazing again!! I love getting my hair done by Danielle! No one better to do the job :) read more

Nicole gave me an excellent emergency wash and blow-dry, even though I was late to my appointment. Friendly, easy to talk to, and fast: everything I need from a hairdresser. Also she has my preferred products: Moroccan Oil treatment, Bumble and Bumble Brilliantine, Schwarzkopf Magic and Upload. Tons of compliments in about five minutes. SHAWNA IS AMAZING!!! I called and asked for a person that was good with curly/frizzy/wavy hair. Since I didn't know anyone thought they would give me the least experienced/least desirable stylist. WRONG!! Shawna loves textured, curly hair and told me so. She's cut hair for 17 years and said she's never been as happy in a salon as she is here - she gave me exactly the cut and color I wanted (brought in a pic from an ivillage makeover). She told me what she was doing, checked my highlights frequently - made sure I got the color I wanted. Her consultation with me was wonderful. Then I had eyebrows done with Michelle who put on some Latin Lounge music and did an excellent job!! The receptionist kept the salon extremely clean - when she wasn't with customers she was sweeping. I have always stressed about choosing a stylist and get nervous getting my hair dyed because I have bright blonde hair, but would trust Danielle with it any day. Danielle is my all time favorite stylist. I have lived all over San Diego, New York City, and Miami and still will make trips out to see Danielle. Most recently I went in complaining of feeling like my hair is darker and more brassy colored than I was hoping. She instantly knew exactly what to do and talked me through the whole process. She added highlights and a toner and I left loving my hair more than I had even expected! She made my hair look bright, full, healthy, and she then styled it to perfection. I have been coming to 19 Blue for the last 4 years, my stylist is Savannah Weninger, and I couldn't be happier. The staff is always friendly, and really make you feel welcome. You're always offered a beverage after you check in - everyone is so polite! I have a lot of long curly hair, my haircuts (with a wash and blow dry) have always been $45. Savannah came recommended to me by a coworker and I always refer people to her. Even if I can only make it in every few months she knows exactly how I like my hair trimmed and styled. She's an amazing stylist - always has a new product for me to try out. The salon is very relaxing and has the perfect laid back Santa Barbara vibe. It's a great place to spend an hour! read more

19 Blue is a new salon that was opened by some of the best hair stylists in Santa Barbara. I followed my stylist Christina Svec when she started working here. Christina is great - I am extremely picky about my hair and she always makes it look great. She really makes an effort to understand what I want. She is especially good with my fine hair - I've gone to her to have my hair styled for special events and she is able to give it more volume than I've ever had before! The salon itself is a great space and all the stylists are friendly. It's also in a prime location for showing off my new 'do on State street! Hailing from a big, bustling city with many professional salons, I was a bit hesitant in finding a stylist in Santa Barbara. In turn, I went onto Yelp to find somewhere to go as I was in need of a haircut. I read all these good reviews at 19 Blue for Savannah, so I went ahead and booked a haircut. Firstly, parking isn't bad - there are some meter spots right outside but worst case scenario you can park in the Paseo Nuevo parking lot and if you make it back in under 75 minutes, I'm pretty sure parking will be free. My first impression of the salon was that the ladies working there were extremely chatty, friendly, enthusiastic, and full of energy (which I loved). I checked in at the reception and waited less than five minutes until Savannah came over and introduced herself. I told her what I wanted and she led me off to get my hair washed. One of my complaints was that the head and neck massage that I'm very used to in the salon back at home was missing! There was a little bit of massaging, but not enough to constitute it as a massage. Boo! That's usually the best and most relaxing part of getting my hair done and it wasn't there - major disappointment. Anyways, during the whole cut Savannah seemed very nice and genuine, making appropriate conversation but taking care not to be overly enthusiastic or fake which was nice. She did exactly as I asked and my hair felt great. This isn't the cheapest place to get your hair cut but I'm always paying $50+ because I have long hair that requires a little bit more time so I didn't think too much of it. Pros: friendly, efficient, listened to what I wanted, easy parking, and great results Cons: missing head massage during shampoo Verdict: I'll definitely be going back to Savannah from now on! read more

I had a terrible experience at this salon. It was my first time here as I was in town for my brother's wedding. I was on a strict timeline and made an appointment for 9am, planning 1 hour for my updo, however my stylist Ellie was 30 minutes late! The lady at the reception was extremely rude, telling me my stylist would arrive in a couple minutes every 10 minutes. She did nothing to help me and only offered that I could leave if it was inconveniencing me!? On the day of my brother's wedding how was I supposed to find another salon? When I made an appointment for 9am, I expect to start right away. This salon did not value my time and they were incredibly rude on top. When Ellie finally came, she did not apologize much at all. I was already getting late for the ceremony and she rushed through my hair. She said updos usually take 45min - 1 hour and she spent less than 30. I felt so cheated for the price I paid, had no time to ask her to fix things, and left feeling stressed and anxious on top - no one should spend so much and leave a salon feeling that way. Her work was fine but this place is unreliable, inhospitable, and does not take responsibility for their mistakes. I would recommend taking your $85 somewhere with much better service. While living in Santa Barbara I was platinum blonde long (tons of highlights, not all single color) to platinum short; shoulder length return-to-natural brunette to long dark; move to LA, phenomenal highlights on dark to bayalage (sp?) on dark.... Ann is the most talented hair artist I've ever met! Yes, I drive from Beverly Hills to SB because I trust Ann so much to work her magic!! While living in SB four of my closest friends went to her too - different colors, textures, styles - and everyone loved her to pieces. Anyone who has the opportunity to go to Ann at 19 Blue should consider themselves lucky. She listens, is a fabulous conversationalist (I use to be in her chair for 2+ hrs every 6 weeks for my SB blonde 'do so I know!) and she cares!! I was shopping at Wendy Foster downtown and couldn't take my eyes off the woman next to me searching the same clothes rack I was searching. She knew I was staring at her, so I finally said, "It's your hair. I love it." She thanked me and told me she'd "just" had it cut at 19 Blue Salon, which I'd never heard of. She told me where it was and who her stylist was and had been for years. Then she asked if I'd like to photograph her hair, so I did. When I got back to my car, I called the salon and made an appointment with Angela. When we met, Angela did a careful study of my fine, wispy, layered shoulder-length hair. After I told her my history with my last stylist, she said she'd like to begin with a clean slate. I told her she could do anything she wanted, so she cut it blunt right at my chin. I loved what she did. I got compliments the minute I walked out the salon. It's been nearly three months since our appointment, and I'm ready to go back, since my hair has grown a couple of inches already. I can't wait to see what she sees and does next! I come into get my hair cut every time with some whacky new idea for a crazy haircut. Luckily the girl who cuts my hair (Ashleigh) is amazing and takes my crazy idea and modifies it to make me happy and give me a haircut that always rocks and is a mixture between my (usually euro trashy) idea and something that still looks sharp at work. Great salon. I went in July because I was overdue for color. I was visiting Santa Barbara and needed hair help. The salon was nearby so I booked an appointment. So it's the end of August and never, ever has my color lasted this long. I had a great experience for never having been there before and I would go again. Or maybe I need to move... Ha!
