I would love to thank Erin for my gorgeous half purple half black look! It looked great for my graduation back in 2022. It looked amazing in general, she was also very nice and very cool to talk to about ideas. Erin is definitely someone I recommend if you love someone with a nice vibe and welcoming energy On the other hand, I do have a complaint as to why I only gave 4 stars. I recently tried to get my hair done by a woman named Laura, she looked at my hair for one second and was being extremely rude about it. I am aware that stylist can refuse service but I feel she was being unreasonable (maybe cuz it was a day before a holiday?). She would give me ideas about my hair then immediately take it all back, then she had to end each insult with "girlfriend" and I personally didn't feel comfortable with that. Then I had to hear how long she's been in the business for 45+ years (her experience must be outdated), I don't care, I know people in the business and usually when a customer has damaged hair they usually build the person up with a "lets get your hair healthy with a deep conditioning or treatment and then we can think of lightening it up!" not a rude series of "Im not doing it!". She even had another client sitting by me and I noticed their reaction and yeah Laura wasn't being nice. I also didn't like how my friend was treated, Erin didn't kick my friend out the last time I went but Laura was basically like "ok get out!" Little did she know my friend was paying so we walked out with the money, her loss not any of ours. She's terrible at customer service, she needs to be prompted cuz now I personally don't feel comfortable being around someone that negative and that's my favorite salon Anyway, I actually went to another salon who got my hair feeling healthy instead of wasting my time and making me feel bad about it. I recommend Erin for sure!! She did the purple and black perfectly! read more

I was 18 years old when I first went to this salon, and 14 years later I'm still going! Kristen is the only person I trust with my hair. My hair is naturally very thick and curly, so cutting it and styling it can be a challenge for a lot of people. Okay this is a little bit different. I have a 94 year old mother who is in hospice in Ventura. In July there is a family reunion in Iowa. There will be a FaceTime so everyone can see her and visa versa. I was hoping to have her hair done so she would feel her very best. I searched far and wide and finally found Christine at Self Image. I have a lot of gray coming in and wanted to know if someone could color my hair in such a way to blend the gray with blonde and low lights so that I would only have to get highlights every eight weeks or so. Okay. Let me start off by saying: Christine is AMAZING! AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING! I have a bit of a story to tell, so please bear with me... :) I came to this salon on a recommendation from my dad. I happened have an appointment at a time where Christine was by herself, I guess near the end of the day. Well, this amazing lady totally blew my mind and then some. I had several photographs of a hairstyle I wanted - a particular Japanese rock musician's hair - and I had them with me when I went in. Christine took one look at the pictures and said, "this is AWESOME, let's do it!" Her enthusiasm and get go were great, but then she asked me, "who is he and where is he from?" Here, things got really interesting. :) I told her he was a vocalist from a Japanese rock band (Satoshi from Girugamesh, to be exact), and her first response? "Well bring in his music and let's listen to it!" At this point my jaw's on the floor, how AWESOME can this woman get?! So I bring in my thumb drive from my car that has all my JRock on it, and I load up her MP3 player with them - she wanted to listen to them later! - and she cuts my hair to an amazing soundtrack of Japanese rock. While I was loading her music up, we were chatting and we got on the subject of what I did for a living - IT - and she mentioned she had a problem with her PC. It was a quick fix and I was able to do it while copying the music files. The fact that she and I could just connect and chat like we'd known each other for a long time was just great. Regarding the music - it was a hit! She absolutely loved it. Half-way through my cut, the playlist blanked, and she said, "well, let's start it up again". Simply amazing! She spent two hours on my hair - she did the entire cut with a razorblade to get the layered, choppy look I wanted. She also massaged my scalp with oils and washed my hair. All for $42.50, a steal! What floored me even more was she asked if she could keep the pictures of Satoshi, I said sure! I have even more where those came from! XD Who would have thought I'd make a Girugamesh fan going to get my hair cut?! She also gave me advice on styling - because I have super-thin blonde hair and not thick black hair like the Japanese guy, she told me I would have to style it with lots of stuff, and different stuff than what he was using. She recommended a hair straightener hair clay (and it's literally that, clay) and gave me an entire jar of it for free! I ended up buying the hair straightener from her, and she didn't even charge me tax. I ended up tacking it onto her tip. ;) We ended up becoming friends on Facebook, and I'm due for another cut from her - my Satoshi mullet is getting out of control! - and I will definitely be coming back to her every time! I've been bouncing from salon to salon in Ventura County ever since I chopped 20 inches off my hair a few years ago. Usually I find places that are good at first but become inconsistent quickly. But I've been to Self Image twice now and my mom once and we both have had really great experiences. Be aware that there is a Kristin, a Christine and a Christina at the shop, I am confident that they are all excellent but if you have a preference it's important to be aware of the name similarities. My hairstylist at Self Image is Christina. She has dark hair, lots of really cool tattoos, and is very easy going and conversational. She's particularly adept at cutting short hair and was able to navigate my natural waves and cowlicks with excellent skill. I like my hair short and spiky with a feminine touch, and she nailed it. Both times the cuts she gave me were great and I've received many compliments. I just went in for my second appointment with her a few days ago. I told her casually I was preparing to dress in a classic pin up style for my sister's wedding, and she gave me pointers on how to do the makeup (she's also a beautician). I had forgotten to ask her to write down the name of the lipstick she suggested before I left, and sure enough when I got home I had a text message from her (I'd left my cell number at the shop when trying to book an appointment) telling me the name of the color lipstick I needed. I bought the makeup the other day and it looks fabulous! My haircut was about $50.00, which is kind of steep for a student budget like mine but very reasonable for the excellent service. The service at Self Image surpasses typical salons. The women here are friendly, helpful and excellent hairdressers. I highly recommend this salon for consistently good haircuts with a positive, friendly atmosphere! read more

She did my hair for my wedding- she ROCKS. For my wedding hair, she worked with me to find a style that worked and had tons of great suggestions when I sat in her chair and told her I had no idea what I wanted my hair to look like on my big day. she's cut my hair a few times now, and these are the BEST haircuts I've ever received.
