I have had super bad luck with hairstylists since I moved to Ventura. Today I had an appointment with Emma at this salon and was excited because my hair badly needed color and a trim. I was very clear with the receptionist about what I needed when I scheduled the appointment. I arrived a few minutes early and was told Emma was running half an hour late. When she finally came to fetch me she asked me what she could do for me. I told her. She said, "I don't cut short hair. My specialty is long hair." What kind of stylist can't cut short hair? She agreed to color it and tried to book me for the following week for a trim - with another stylist. I don't want to wait another week for a trim! The color she put on my hair was so dark it's almost black and does not match the color I already had. Guess I will have to start all over again from scratch. Just wanted to give a refreshed review as I've been going to The Ivy Mae Salon for the past 4 years now and want to update you all that it is still my go-to spot. I no longer live as close to Ventura as I did before, however I will still make the long drive to get my hair cut by my girl Angie. It's crazy to think how long we've known each other now and I will say she is probably the only person in this world I trust with my hair. Had my curly hair cut and styled by Rosa. She gave me a diva cut, which is cutting my hair dry - kind of like trimming a bush. After the cut, she then washed & conditioned my hair before final styling. She gave me great tips on how to handle my curls, working to keep them intact so they don't get too frizzy. Reasonably priced for a main haircut & the advice was well worth it! Rosa was kind, the salon was clean and very nicely decorated. I will go here again! read more

Sam is the best! I moved here Aug. 2017 and a fellow blondie recommended Sam to me and I haven't looked back! I have fine hair but a ton of it and it's really long. I rarely blow dry or heat style and take pretty damn good care of it thanks to suggestions and advice from Sam, so it's super healthy and shiny. I had my hair cut by Angie a couple days ago and she did a phenomenal job! My hair is thinning right now, and she suggested a cut that made it look much fuller and healthier, and I was impressed by how meticulous she was in making sure it was straight. Nicole also stopped by to talk to me about my hair issues and that helped calm my nerves a bit (thank you!). The only minor issue I had was having it brushed out after the wash was a painful process (too much tugging) so I did have to ask Angie to be more gentle, which she was afterwards. Otherwise everything was great and I'll definitely be going back for my next cut! read more

I needed a haircut and messaged the business through Yelp and quickly got a response. I set an appointment with Rosa. The salon atmosphere has a clean, modern, calm vibe with a lot of natural light coming through the windows (great for those receiving color treatments). I love the product Rosa used on my hair...a line from Italy that is natural and sustainable. Rosa has been doing hair for 20 years and she really did a beautiful job making my dry overgrown, damaged mop into a fresh, shiny, youthful cut. Very happy! Will be back for sure. read more

I have to start this with saying that my hair is my security blanket. When I feel confident, it is because my hair looks amazing. And my hair only looks amazing when Nicole works her magic. Nicole has been doing my hair for 5 years and even though I have moved away from Ventura, I still gladly travel back for her to do my hair. (And have already decided she will be doing my hair for my wedding...even though I am no where near getting married). I have had some unfortunate hair cuts and colors in my life, and there is nothing Nicole can't fix. She is honest, communicates well, and works extra hard to make each and every one of her clients feel special and beautiful. Not only is she amazing at what she does, but Nicole has just opened this new salon in Ventura (with prime parking I might add), and all of the stylists are welcoming, professional, and incredible at what they do. Whether you need a quick cut, a new color, or longer extensions (and a confidence boost), The Ivy Mae is the place for you. I will forever rave about this place and their stylists, and I could not be happier about my hair. I never ever write reviews, but I really feel the need to tell everyone about this salon. Great hair studio. My stylist was really attentive and gave me a really great haircut. I love that they're focused on hair health and developing the shape of your cut to fit your hair. She toned my hair, which gave it a nice gloss and took out some of the brass. I came out of there and had *so*many compliments. Now for the downsides: their hair products gave me a scalp rash. They were marketed as natural, but I bought a dry shampoo (for $30 and can't use it. Tossed it in the trash). It had aluminum starches in it (not natural). The other thing is that the place is product-sales oriented. That being said, this is most salons, so I can't really get down on them for that too much. Overall, a pretty great salon. read more

Ive been searching for the perfect hair salon in this area for a while, and I finally found it! This place got me in quickly and staff was very friendly. Inside the place is clean and pretty. They offer you a drink when you come in as well. Waiting area is very nice. Rebekah did exactly what I wanted with my hair! It has been a long time since I have found that in a hairstylist. She's an incredible stylist, always staying up on techniques for cut and color, but she has an innate instinct for what YOU need. Okay....so I was having a really dfficult time today because I found out that my father passed away this weekend. I had been meaning to get a haircut for for the long time and I didnt even make an appt, I called ahead, they had a cancellation and they squeezed me in with Angie. I explained how I was feeling, and that I really would love a new energy. A new style. I want to feel like myself again. The act of her brushing my hair alone gave me all the feels. I had a relaxing and much needed head massage at the bowl, I felt accommodated, understood and since my hair is soooo thick, she never once made me feel bad. She was gentle when it mattered and tugged when it was needed. Sam is great! I've been with her for several years now. She is super attentive and has a great talent for catching and also executing my hair into a style I like. Super happy with her. She is great a doing very natural looking highlights and also was able to dye my hair back to my original hair color when I went back to my original light brown color.
