My experience living at Redwood Urban Hollywood (1820 Whitley) was consistently disappointing. Maintenance and Building Conditions: The elevator was out of service for several months, and the hallway carpets were frequently stained and unclean. The building often smelled of cigarette smoke, and there were multiple occasions during the winter when there was no hot water for extended periods, despite residents continuing to pay for it. The jacuzzi was closed due to maintenance issues, there were periodic water leaks in the garage, and the garage remotes worked inconsistently. The laundry machines are located in the gym area, which made the space very humid and uncomfortable. There were also recurring issues with water bugs inside the building, contributing to an overall feeling of poor upkeep. Noise and Safety: The main gate produces a very loud mechanical noise whenever it opens, which can be startling. Trash sometimes accumulated in the hallways, there was no designated guest parking, and packages or mail occasionally went missing. There were also times when individuals without building access were found near the entrance, which added to concerns about safety. Management and Leasing: Communication with management was often difficult, and the leasing process felt confusing at times. There were issues with incorrect rent charges that required follow-up to correct. The fee structure also lacked transparency. Upon move-out, I was charged a significant amount in fees, even though I left my unit clean and in good condition. Overall Impression: The property could benefit from better management, more consistent maintenance, and clearer communication with residents. The building maintenance team and their manager John were always attentive and quick to respond to any repairs needed in our unit. We will always cherish the memories my wife and I had in the first apartment we moved in together. Living here was actually a delight! I had a lovely studio apartment that was exactly what I wanted. It's in the heart of Hollywood, very walkable, and the management is top notch. Gini is one of the sweetest, most helpful apartment managers I could hope for. She always made sure I was taken care, maintenance was done promptly, and my needs were met. Even when my whole dishwasher needed replaced, she made sure it got done as quickly as possible. John, the maintenance guy, is super good at his job, and could always make me laugh when things needed fixing. I don't live here anymore, as I had to relocate for work, but I certainly do miss it, and the community I had around me. read more

Do not move here! You think you are getting a deal but you are not. There are hidden fees with this scam company they are partnered with called YES ENERGY! Since I moved here my bill has increased every month to the point it's almost $100 extra. I live by myself and work all the time. There's no way my bill should be this price but it's split amongst ALL tenants. Sounds illegal right?! It is, yes energy has so many complaints and active lawsuit. Mind you I asked about it before signing lease and I was lied to! Moving on..., Ive been here for 5 months and the alarms randomly went off 3 times n the middle of the night since. All tenants have been sent emails saying we will be fined for not properly putting trash in specific trash cans (already being charged arm/leg for trash but ok) or not picking up after our dogs. I personally been sent an email regarding my dog barking while I'm at work. I pay an extra $100 for my dog to live there, and I made it clear my dog makes noise. Nothing was said then, so now we are told we will be fined $150 if it continues. Mind you music is played all throughout the night and I never complained. Domestic violence is heard through the walls.. I've been dealing with it. I reached out through email and they never got back to me. I called and the leasing worker claimed she will call me back within 10 mins and never even called back. They just want your money. Nowhere for guests to park. Not dog friendly whatsoever at the actually apartment. Management is nice/respectful but what's the point when they lie and think they are doing you a favor? I pay for every single thing, and let me not get started on the OLD TOILET THAT IS UNFIXABLE. I was told to pretty much to deal with it from the maintenance worker. OK, I'm not going to lie...the neighborhood isn't all that great, but (a) this is Hollywood and (b) the neighborhood isn't Redwood or the management's fault. Fact is, the rents are extremely reasonable for this area, which is close to everything. The building was totally re-furbished just before I moved in 3 years ago (I'm signing up for another year in a month). So, it's all stainless steel and caesarstone bench/counter tops and the whole feeling of the place is "clean and modern" (see pics). A huge plus is that there are no AirBNB apartments here. There used to be but the management got onto it, changed the leases to stop it, and threw those bums out. So, it's a quiet building - security takes care of that after 10p. And the management's really great, too. Anything wrong with the apartment, and they get right on it. I go direct to the office (read: free coffee and cool people) for things like that, but you can put in a work order at your online tenant portal as well. There's wifi, and the guys who operate the internet/TV service do a great job. I've never had a problem, but when I called with a tech question, I got immediately onto a guy who gave me an answer then and there. On and off the phone with a tech question in under 5 minutes. You can't beat that. The building has the biggest pool I've seen in an apartment block in this area. There's a great BBQ/gas-grill area up on the roof which has a pretty great view. There's a spa up there and tables and chairs as well. So it's a great place for hanging out with friends on the holiday. There's plenty of machines/dryers in the laundry room - I've never had to wait in 3 years. The parking lot is standard stuff - gated and accessible only by your clicker. Any downside? Yes; it would be better if we had more easily accessible re-cycling bins, but that's not worth losing a star over. read more

This place seems to agree. In that regard. It's perfect! I've never been satisfied with a place in LA this team is changing that! The maintenance team worked diligently to address the defects at move in. The leasing office took responsibility for these things needing work orders. That was a first for me and pretty awesome. I'm gonna enjoy my time here. The security patrol is on top of their game. Day 1, I didn't have my permit in my car and boom. Parking Notice. Lost my permit left note with number. Day 2, phone call. Day 5, I just got a knock from security asking if everything was okay because I didn't close my door completely. The neighborhood isn't terrible but knowing that someone is looking out for your wellbeing adds a lot. Two star loss for the built into but added to my rent, forced Internet/tv from some third party ISP that has a rectal cranial inversion. Internet service is pricey for the data speeds (think 2004 broadband) and cannot be upgraded. They provide directv service also however it's more expensive than going through directv.(which you can't do) Sadly, it makes me miss TWC. I'll attempt to find some other solution. I am curious as to why/how they have Internet provided from one company contracted to all the apts but no community wifi. read more

Things have really changed and improved around here. My girlfriend and I just renewed our lease at 1837 and have found the maintenance to be impeccable and timely, and the leasing department continuously growing and improving in their balance of corporate needs and customer demands. It has a nice weight room and roof top. I like my balcony and they're pet friendly. There's also a benefit of them setting up cable and directv for you. It's slightly above tag but it mixes into rent to a normal price and gets you live tv and internet set up. Bel-air internet delivers solid speed at basic level and the directv package is solid too with cheap upgrades. read more

Landlord KAREN TISHKOFF is super unprofessional and extremely difficult to work with. The apartments are alright but fall apart. When anything needs to be fixed she will be impossible to get ahold of And then she will want you to pay for it as well ( which is her responsibility as the landlord) Only live here if it's your last resort!! read more

Honestly, I am not one to write reviews but I feel like it is necessary to all future tenants of Redwood Urban. Being a real estate agent myself, I feel like the way things are handled within this company is not at any means professional. I don't want to be picky because this was my first apartment rental, however I at least hoped for the "management" team to be sympathetic and somewhat considerate towards my finances. Personally, I am a very clean, organized, person. Some people would even consider me a neat freak and super OCD. I felt very disappointed when the manager (not going to disclose any names) - but I felt that she was not very considerate to my security deposit. I made sure to leave the apartment spotless before I moved out (which I obviously did) and she still had the decency to not only charge me a so-called "cleaning fee" but also charged me all this other ridiculous fees that I have never even heard of. Keep in mind, that I am a realtor/interior designer myself working in property management so I have heard of every possible fee out there. This review is guided specifically towards my security deposit because I truly feel that a "professional" management team would of dealt with my situation a lot more differently and given my full security deposit back rather than deducting ridiculous fees. Just because the management team is low on money, does not mean they can take it out of tenant's security deposits and make certain assumptions that aren't even close to being true. Unfortunately, at move out, we were charged an additional month's rent by accident. Without apology or accommodations offered, we were told our refund for this mistake would take up to 21 days. During our lease, the management was very helpful, but this gross negligence at the end of our time with Redwood Urban left a bad taste in our mouths. We moved in last weekend. Upon our initial visit to the leasing office Brian and Lee were so welcoming and professional. Lee treated us with great respect and was prompt to offer refreshments as we took off for our tour. The building is under construction as of right now but our unit is completely renovated. I especially love the new appliances and the faux wood floors. On top of all the renovations the quality of the unit is worth noting. From light switches to windows to the medicine cabinet to the crown molding. We are thrilled to be residents of this community. Our application process was fair and Lee had great communication with us via email and phone calls, even on his day off! Maintenance responds quickly to work orders. Some cons: We didn't realize water/sewer, trash/recycling are billed separately and equals about $50-70/mo. But it's okay, glad they offer recycling! The emergency alarm went off on our second night in our home and was a false alarm tripped by the dust from construction. The washer/dryer units are verrrrry small. I was able to wash my king sized fitted sheet, flat sheet and two pillow cases in one wash. But that's as much as it can handle. Maybe four bath towels per wash. No guest parking spaces. Only one doggie relief area in the building and minimal grassy areas outside around the building. Over all we love living here and would recommend 1724 Highland to our friends. read more

Neighborhood is sketchy and terrible (not managments fault), but they charge premium rent for not so premium apartments. Noisy and dirty grounds...imagine a nasty fraternity! Tenants animals go to bathroom in building, hallways, and common areas. Tenants or guests have puked in hallyways with it sitting there for a day before cleaning. Management company is unprofessional, unfriendly, will not help and will charge you for everything. I would only consider this apartment for corporate temporary living. Don't expect to get your deposit as this shady managment company pockets most of it for things they are responsible for as a management company. But, most people probably don't fight because they are transient students/performers/actors who don't have time or means. I know I had planned on fighting them, but an unfortunate MVA over holidays prevented me and thought it was better to walk away from the nasty envirnoment and not keep them tied to my life. I know I am much happier being out of that neighborhood, building, and proprty management company. So happy to be in west LA, safe walkable neighborhood, friendly building owner, and beautiful spanish large 1 bedroom all for the same price as Urban Redwood Hollywood studio! read more
