I came back here again for my car inspection, and had another five star experience! There wasn't much of a wait and I was in and out of there in no time. Easy location to get to as well. And their staff was friendly. I'll be back for sure. Well done 1626 auto inspections team!! read more

Service is quick, friendly and a great value. Car inspections are all they do, so they have the system down to a science.

Only needed an emissions test and many places are by appointment only. This place takes walk ins and they got me out in under 30 minutes!

I had a two year old car (had the two year new car sticker) and brought it in. Busy place but they were moving people fast. The guy I dealt with pulled my car in and in a couple of minutes pulled me out to let me know that even though it was two years old it was a 2024 model and I wouldn't need an inspection yo get a new sticker. I was surprised and it was nice and honest of him to let me know that. Thanks! I will be back! read more

One star for the service and treatment I received today is an overstatement. I want a refund and my money back. This place ripped me off on the inspection. They spent at least 30 minutes meticulously looking for anything and everything they could find wrong with the car so it would fail the inspection and then had the audacity to charge me for it. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I decided to take it to a reputable oil change business for a second opinion. I was in and out of the next place in less than 20 minutes and the car passed inspection. Do not go here! You will regret it. read more

OMG!! This was the easiest inspection I've ever experienced, and I've experienced many. The people are very kind, their service is fast and easy, and the cost was the lowest I have ever paid. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes, and there were 3 cars ahead of me. I will never go anywhere else. Thank you guys for being #1 in my book! read more

Well this was the easiest state inspection I've ever had. The service was friendly and quick. You really can't beat being in and out of there in less than 30 minutes for less than $20. That's a fantastic value! I will definitely be returning here year after year for my car inspection! read more

Always friendly and courteous. They do their best to get everyone taken care of in a timely manner .

Was needing to get an inspection for my truck. Every place I had went to was booked out at least a week, but was referred to this place stop by the next Saturday morning he took me in getting inspected in and out did a great job. Will definitely be coming here with all my vehicles. read more

I had to do some adulting today and searched for an inspection place close to me and this place came up in the search. It was a cold rainy morning so I thought it would be a good time to go. I got there just in time as there was one car that had just pulled in ahead of me. By the time I left there were several cars waiting as it had stopped raining and people were finally venturing out of their houses. A technician named KJ met me with a friendly smile. He was kind to my dog and even warned me to be careful as cars sometimes drive by pretty fast. My dog and I wandered about as I waited for my car which was done in about 10 minutes. KJ literally ran in between greeting me and checking back in the office. I saw him do this several times while I was there. This dude is efficient. When my car was complete, he even opened up the back door to let my dog hop into the backseat. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at this place and I will be back. Thanks 1626 Inspections! read more

I come here almost every year for my inspection, these people are kind and give that local community feeling. The waiting room is air conditioned with about 4-6 chairs and WiFi, and then there is also seating outside. They make this tedious inspection task actually quite enjoyable read more

Wonderful service! When all other state inspection centers in south Austin either had defective machines or technicians were out, 1626 Auton Inspections saved the day. Fair, efficient, friendly, and not too far. read more

Been going to this inspection station for years. They're fast, fair, and efficient. They're friendly and have never tried to sell me a repair that wasn't needed (I go in knowing my vehicle passes). They're very busy now and today was a 90 minute wait, but they're working as fast as they can. Just like many other places there's a shortage of workers and they're taking referrals from other locations who have stopped doing inspections. read more

Very fast and efficient. They are friendly and honest. Great price for an inspection.

Great service and friendly people. They have an air conditioned waiting area and they even hand out cold bottles of water. You might have to wait upwards of an hour depending on how many cars are ahead of you. Highly recommend this establishment. read more

They're a small business- which means wait times are reasonably short. Professional, quick, friendly, and decently priced. Highly recommend!

Arrived, signed in as indicated on the signs, was in and out in about 20-30 min with maybe 2-3 cars ahead of me. The lady who checked me in and KJ the inspector were both very prompt, professional and kind. In this triple digit weather, the air conditioned room to the right of the entrance was very much appreciated. Will be sending friends and family here. read more

Very happy with the service from this locally owned business. These guys are one of Sochac's hidden gems. read more

I didn't get there as early as I wanted so they already had quite a waiting list, which isn't surprising since I have heard nothing but great things about them. I got my name on the waiting list and went back home for a few hours and then called to confirm they were still running on time for my appointment. I got there and they were able to get my truck right in. They were very thorough and a fair price. I will definitely be making this the place I go for my inspections. I just need to make sure I have plenty of time. read more

If you are looking for a place to watch an old man waddle around being rude to everyone while knocking out about 1 inspection an hour. This is your place. read more

I love going to this place every year for my inspection. Something about the nostalgia of the building, the kindness of the people that run the place, and it being independently owned keeps bringing me back. I gave them 4/5 stars because of the wait. It seems no matter when I go, I always end up waiting over an one hour. This year, they only had one technician doing inspections, so that was the cause for the backup this time around. Small price to pay considering it's so close to my house, and I only have to do it once a year. read more

I came to 1626 Auto Inspections for an inspection last week. My inspector told me my windshield wiper needed to be replaced, otherwise my inspection would not pass. As my hands seemed to be tied here, I told him to move forward. At checkout, I learned he had replaced both of them, one of which I had just replaced not more than a month ago. I ended up paying for two windshield wipers at retail price. I drove out to test out my new wipers and learned that they didn't even tell me about nor replenished my empty windshield wiper fluid. I definitely felt taken advantage of so just a warning to all of you that they will take advantage of the fact that you're already there and they have the power to pass your vehicle's inspection. If you do decide to come here, which I do not recommend, ensure you know what you actually need replaced, if anything. read more

There were only a few peopke there whennI arrived and some came after. Was quicker than I expected. Happy!

Fast and friendly service. It seems like everyone knows about this place because the list to get in is very long and the wait is nearly all day. So if you are used to waiting in long lines and have lots of patience, this is one of the best places to go for an inspection. read more

I've been bringing all my cars here for over 20 years. Service has always been fairly good. A couple days ago, I stopped in for annual inspection and was told it would be a two hour wait. Fair enough, there are staff shortages everywhere. I was also told that they are so busy they'd moved to a 8:00 AM opening time. Today, I arrived at 8:30. They were closed. Several other customers were also there waiting. At 9:00, I called the number on the sign and asked if they'd be opening soon. The answer ways that they'd decided to open at 11:00 today "due to weather." It's cold out, but not a cloud in the sky. Again, fair enough. But, I asked, why didn't they at least put a sign on their door. The answer was, "It's on our Web site." There was no apology nor any note of concern that several customers were waiting. I went to the other cars and told the other customers. First, if you've been told what time a shop opens, I don't expect there's a need to double-check the Web site. Second, after a thorough search, it's clear there is no Web site. The Web site that Yelp points to goes to an "Under Construction" page. These guys can open or close whenever they like, but there was no interest or concern that several customers were sitting in the parking lot waiting. Telling me to check the Website when there is no Website was pretty unprofessional. At this point, I don't feel that I'll be returning here. Since I only bring two cars in each year, I'm sure the owners won't care if I'm a customer or not. read more

Always kind and honest. Quick and to the point. Great place to get inspected! Honest people

No clear signage. Bad customer service. The person checking people in moved two cars after I got here who parked after me but still put them ahead in line of me. When I asked them if I could get my rightful place in line they said they had no idea if I was here before the other cars and I would be after them. They have cameras they can tell who got here first also if they had to move the other two cars next to me because of parking issues and not my car then it's pretty clear who got here first. Why would I lie and they refusing to believe me is ridiculous. I've been coming here for years to support the small business but I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I spent about 1 hour here today, waiting to have 2 vehicles inspected and had a good experience. This is a great local business - nothing fancy, mind you - but solid service indeed. They are pleasant to work with and they will get you in and out in about 15 minutes. So while they do have a very small waiting room with A/C and lots of magazines to read, it is really not bad to sit outside under the massive oak tree - even for a summer morning in Texas. Besides shopping local, the thing I like about coming here is that they WON'T try to sell you new brakes, tires, etc. - because ALL THEY DO IS INSPECTIONS! YEA!! read more

I always get my car inspected here. It's close and convenient, and I've always had good service. I'm dismayed by the bad reviews, as I've never had a bad experience. They do state vehicle inspections, not manicures, for crying out loud. Usually it's done quickly, and I'm back on the road in 15-20 minutes. It's not Austin, it's small town Menchaca. I like the quirky building and the unique setting. And I crossed that inspection off the list! read more

Rude rude rude!! The lady who takes payment is so rude that I left and went to 1/4 mile away!! I will not use this place again!

DO NOT GET YOUR CAR INSPECTION HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO WASTE YOUR TIME!!!! Establishment super unprofessional and unorganized. It's almost like they want to waste your time. Long story short. I needed to get my auto inspection. Called early in the morning to ask about walk-ins and appointments. They said I could walk in but they had a long wait and they would stop taking vehicles at 3:30 pm. I came in between 1:30 and 2pm. Lady at the counter said I would be the last car to be serviced. She wrote my name down and told me to come back in about one hour. I came back between 2:30 and 3 pm. She took down my car insurance info and even took my keys. We waited for about 45 minutes for her to tell us that they could no longer see me. I was polite and said okay but I truly think that is one of the most unprofessional things someone can do. To have us waste our time!!! She said if I come in TUESDAY at 8am she would not have me wait. Um... I don't have the luxury to come in when you want me to. Some people have jobs and errands to run. That's why we called in ahead of time and arrived early. I also don't insinuate that someone is being racist/discriminatory against minorities lightly but... let's just say my brother and I were the only non-white people there and speaking Spanish. Many other white people there as well waiting along with me and we were the only ones not seen... so you can make that judgment yourself. So unprofessional. NEVER COME HERE. read more
