They canceled storytime for kids. They have a very poor book selection. Honestly, who only has part of a series? This has happened multiple times, and because there is no inter-city library system in Cache Valley, you're just stuck. No other way to get the books you want unless you buy them. So that's really stupid. They also just announced they are putting a hold on allowing holds to be placed on books that are currently on the shelves. This library highly discourages small children anywhere in the library besides the children section. And I mean highly discourages. They won't actually ask you to leave, but they'll get pretty passive aggressive. If you can do multiple other events for teens and above, but can't bother with storytime and make it super hard for working, single, and regular parents to use your library, you're showing your true colors. Libraries are family-friendly. Or at least, they're supposed to be.

I have never been into Ogden before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I grew up in Tucson however…read moreso I was kind of imagining something similar out of their airport but on a much smaller scale. I was close, but try a much, much, much smaller scale. I flew in through Allegiant Air direct from Williams Gateway in Mesa, AZ. It was a quick flight which I slept through most of so I didn't know we were there until the tires hit the runway. Then the door to back ofthe plane opened which isn't a unique experience, but not exactly what you normally expect either. From there we were directed down a set of stairs brought to the plane and across the tarmac. The last time I actually had to walk across an airport runway to get into the terminal was when I was in Hawaii a few years ago, and I fly a lot, so it was worth noting. The airport has only one terminal as I guess most people fly out of SLC. Getting through TSA was easy enough which makes sense because it's not often angry members of the Church of LDS try to hijack a plane. As long as they don't run out of Mormon Muffins I think anybody flying out of Ogden should be okay. There are only two restrooms in the terminal and two in the main lobby which are down a flight of stairs that inspired the chase music from a Friday the 13th movie to play in my head as I descended them. The men's room was clean, but not something I would want a kid to go into alone. There was just something creepy about it. The airport could fit inside of a Sprouts Market with plenty of room left over. It closes at night, as they only run a few airlines out of there I think, but for convenience it's super quick to get in and out of and I had no complaints.

A unique feature is a small reading theater that doubles as a child play area, with a slide, stuffed animals and blocks. These features would be nice to keep one's kiddies occupied, so parents can do some reading, except this library lacks the reading nooks and private seating areas to do so. Southeast corner could be better utilized for private study or reading, but instead it's used for storage. And the couches in the middle are rarely occupied, their central location is so exposed its too distracting for a good read. Also, the adult and young adult book sections are very limited here. "Maker Space" is an interesting place for audio/video computing, but it's understaffed and underutilized. I know they do teach classes on it weekly, but I have yet to try one. I wish they had more activities for all ages of kids like I'm accustomed to at Salt Lake City libraries. They have a decent selection of books on cd, but have very few music cds. They have a lot of tv series on dvd, and a decent amount of movies on dvd. Blu-ray selection is small but mainly new releases. Library is kept clean and the building is relatively new. It has an odd area resembling a cafe with booths and large tables to do homework on. Public internet area is hidden behind the checkout desk, it's cramped but has ten computers. Free Wi-Fi is available here too. Because it's fun for young readers, I enjoy bringing my family here. But there's no real comfortable place for adults, and overall it lacks for everyday readers. But it's a small library, so some of this is to be expected. But I would rearrange the place and focus on comfortable spaces for folks to read.

But I have yet to find myself here when it's nice outside, so I have a slightly biased perspective. That's on me though. Anyway, I love the variety of shops here and the layout is interesting-not like a boring linear mall where everything is one long, dreadful row of stores that goes on and on like a dull high school science teacher. No, this place has twists and turns, shops are broken up by beautiful water features or seating areas-things that encourage people to linger. Aside from the terrible weather-which admittedly, Station Park cannot control, the parking is tricky. There's something innate in the minds of Utahns that we have to be able to park directly in front of the store we are visiting. We don't prefer adjacent parking lots, and get grumpy if we have to walk anywhere more than a few feet. So if you're one of those people, you'll be disappointed to find that the parking areas are further out and the few spots that are near the stores are highly sought after. So, I'll wait for the weather to turn nice, park in the nearby lot and happily meander through the shopping area with coffee in hand, humming along to whatever cheerful music is playing on the speakers overhead.

Some of our favorite shops we stop at are It's Sugar and Rooster's Gourmet Popcorn (looks like Rooster's is gone now). We stopped at Twig's for martinis and they were delicious! We come here every year and see Santa. They have the absolute best Santa by far! He and Mrs. Claus are so sweet! You've got to follow them on Instagram (myfavoritesanta). The line to see them is crazy long though...and it's sooo cold. Be prepared to wait about 7 minutes per group. I wish they'd put some heaters next to the line. We love Santa, but I don't think we can wait in that line again next year without some kind of heat. As soon as we were done seeing Santa, we ran over to one of those standing heaters to warm up. One of my biggest complaints is that my phone doesn't work very well there. I was trying to see if Rooster's moved to another area at the mall, but I wasn't able to look up anything. For a while there, I couldn't text anyone either. It's a bit frustrating. All in all, we love this mall and visit a few times a year.
