Third time getting my long pixie haircut and absolutely love it. Amanda Corte was my hairstylist, and she perfects it each time. This time I requested to make it a bit different with an undercut and as always she did a swell job! Below is what she does to get it right each time: 1) takes her time and listens to the customers need 2) then she perfects it until it reaches her satisfaction level (spends a good hour on it every time) 3) throughout the cut she makes suggestions if she feels what can be done to bring the most to it 4) makes sure its a low maintenance cut and sits well without any styling Make sure to call at least a month in advance to get an appointment with her. Sloppy Mess at 5-Star Prices I spent $200 for the worst cut and color of my life. For a place that is marketing itself as a high-end Boulder salon, I have to say that absolutely nothing about my experience at 1313a Salon was high-end. This was my first haircut/color post pandemic and I was so excited to walk out of the salon feeling great; feeling like myself again but that is just not what happened. This was my first time trying out the salon and I researched reviews copiously before choosing it. I made an appointment with Amanda. The salon is a bright, clean spot, however when I walked in for my appointment on a Saturday morning, the receptionist was getting her hair done at the front desk! This didn't exactly give off vibes of professionalism. I came in for a trim and to color my hair so that it would be as close to my natural ash/cool brown as possible. I have (or rather, had) long hair and wanted to keep as much length as possible. I understand that my ends were in rough shape, but I was shocked at how short my hair was when I left. It didn't at all resemble what I asked for. The color was the worst part. I've been to other salons in town where the stylists explain the color they choose, they show you the swatch they suggest. Amanda didn't discuss any of that with me, she just chose what she thought matched and told me she'd leave it on longer since it was an ammonia-free dye and wanted to achieve better coverage. I trusted that she knew what she was doing - this was also a mistake. First seeing the color of my hair in the bright salon lighting, I thought that it looked a bit dark, but it wasn't until I got home that I realized just how incredibly dark it was. It had no resemblance whatsoever to my natural hair color! It looked nearly coal black and was very severe, especially going into summer. I still can't stand the sight of it and who knows what it will look like as it grows out. And even worse, after the fact I found out that Amanda used permanent dye because "semi-permanent wouldn't cover the grey." I wish she would have told me that before dyeing. I have never in my life had my hair colored with anything but semi-permanent and it covered the grey just fine. Also, my forehead was dyed dark; when I got home I saw that I had dye spots on my cheek, nose, and on my ears and had to scrub my face with rubbing alcohol to remove it. I also realized that the new shirt I wore to the salon had dye on it as a result of the careless experience - there was dye on the collar, a dye spot on both the back and on the front of the shirt. I waited 15 months to get my hair done by professionals precisely to avoid such a situation! This is absolutely not the sloppy mess one expects from a high-end salon. Ultimately, I understand that mistakes happen; we're all human. The issue I have is how Amanda and the salon chose to resolve the situation when I called to express my unhappiness with their services. On the Monday following my appointment, I called the salon to let them know I was unhappy with my experience, that my color was far too dark and unnatural and that I didn't know if it was a bad match or if the color was simply left on too long. I asked if there was anything Amanda could please do to help me get it back to my natural color. The receptionist spoke to her and told me, "Amanda said she could **come in on her day off** on June 2 (nearly a week and a half later) and she doesn't know if she'd have to strip the color out and highlight or what." This is 100% not what a customer wants to hear - absolutely horrible customer service. I would never want someone to have to come in on their day off, however this ordeal has been a waste of MY time and MY money. I spent more than two hours in the chair and nearly $200 to leave completely disappointed and feeling awful about the way I look. There was no apology and I did not get the impression that the salon was at all concerned that they had a very unhappy customer on their hands - and someone who would have been a repeat customer had they been taken care of and treated well. I really dislike leaving negative reviews, however I rely on honest reviews heavily and wanted to share my experiences so that others can hopefully avoid the same mistake. There are many salons in Boulder that have talented stylists, provide good customer service, and own their mistakes. On that note: Does anyone know a good place in town where I can go to get my color fixed? read more

Kyera is amazing!!! She is creative but not over the top and I always leave happy. She is one of the best stylists that I have found in Boulder. She is great with color too. I was on crutches several months ago and was unable to stand long enough to wash my own hair. I went in to see a stylist for a simple wash/style (I won't name names because I think stylist is good with other people but I was SOOOO disappointed). Stylist was running late and I waited patiently. Stylist started to wash my hair, and then admitted he didn't know what to do with it. I am black and I have a TON of hair, but I thought a simple wash/style should be no problem for Stylist with such a great reputation. I almost started to cry, but stylist proceeded. Stylist constantly asked me questions about HOW to do my own hair. When stylist was finally finished my hair looked great, but it felt like straw. Even though I told stylist to put a lot of product in my hair, stylist didn't listen. To put the icing on the cake, the receptionist charged me $20 more than quoted because 'it took so much longer.' I was insulted and disappointed and will never return to the salon again. read more

I have been going to 1313 for more than a year now and have used two different stylists. Both were great. My first stylist, Vicki moved away but my current stylist, June has turned out to be even better - something I didn't think possible. The price is what I would expect for the quality cuts they provide and my hair always grows out to look great even in between cuts. One amenity that I really like is that they provide complimentary beverages - from water to wine - to enjoy as you get your hair styled. The staff is always friendly and they are always on time. I won't even consider getting my hair cut anywhere else. read more

Ali is truly amazingly talented! I don't even live in Boulder but I make the trip out to go to this salon because she is there. Overall this salon has a nice atmosphere. I'm always greeted right away, offered a drink and everyone there is really quite nice. They have plenty of reading materials readily available, should you desire to read while waiting. I've been without color in my hair or stylish haircuts for almost 5/6 years. After my first appointment with Ali I was reminded of how fun and invigorating it is to add a splash of color to your hair. I always leave feeling great! My cuts have been spot on and I'm continually amazed every time she colors my hair. She takes the idea of what I want and makes it even better! The salon also has a very nice selection of hair products and styling tools so you can keep your investment looking great. I highly recommend this place. This was my first time vising 1313 Salon. I went to 1313 to see Delanee to have my hair color updated for fall. I wanted to go darker, but I wasn't exactly sure of what I wanted. Delanee took the time to discuss what I wanted and what she thought would work best with my current hair color and the highlights that I had gotten in the spring. She provided me with options and let me choose the colors that appealed to me. I love my new hair color. The color is rich and natural looking. She used multiple colors to give my hair dimension and some personality. I was really impressed with how well she knew her craft and her skill level. I will definitely be back to get my color done in the future. And, I'm looking forward to getting my hair cut and styled here as well. Overall, my trip to 1313 was a great experience. read more

This is a wonderful salon. It's very clean and safe, and the stylists and receptionists are wonderful. I usually see Molly but have also had my hair done by Shannon, both are superb. But I think the stylists are all great because you get to see all of their creations while you're sitting in the chair. I highly recommend this salon! read more

Lovely salon. Warm and friendly! I saw the owner, Heather London, who is a phenomenal stylist and colorist. If you can get in with her you've hit the jackpot. I went to 1313 when I was unable to see my normal stylist. Amanda H did a great job and really listened to what I wanted as it was our first cut together. She is friendly and professional and very easy to chat with. I liked the salon and got to enjoy a cold beer when I was there. If you live in Boulder, you will undoubtedly see 1313 on the pass-by and say to yourself, "why all the 13's? Isn't 13 bad luck?" While I cannot answer such assertive and thoughtful questions, I can tell you that 1313 is the place for quick wax or for maintenance on those dreadful acrylics you wear. A little pricey, but you DO need to wax, ladies--your lip, brow...and whatever else you may....have. So bad luck it because its lucky if you choose the 1313 and it doesn't choose you. I drove from castle rock just to get a certain stylist. Called because I was going to be 10 minutes late (there was an unexpected accident). The receptionist said no problem. As I pulled up they told me they cancelled me and scheduled over, without calling to see where I am at. TERRIBLE customer service. I'm visited this salon a while back and was directed to their most senior stylist as I had been having bad luck with my last few haircuts. I have lots of superfine hair in a short length. I told her my routine was towel drying and nothing else as I have very early mornings for work and she literally laughed out loud at me and told me to stop joking around. The appointment went downhill from there as she asked me to justify my lifestyle choices for the next hour. I have a difficult time believing someone who had been cutting hair in Boulder for over 10 years and had not encountered a client with a low-maintenance routine. I saw Krystal at 1313 A Salon. She is fantastic for hair coloring. I had gone to someone else and I never knew how it was going to turn out. On a friend's recommendation, I tried Krystal. The first time she colored my hair, it was darker than I expected. She told me to call if it wasn't right. I did. In a cheerful mood, she changed the color and I was incredibly happy. I have since been back several times and received consistent color. Krystal is a great listener and really understands color. I highly recommend her to all my friends and clients. Not a great experience with Robin for a men's haircut. I have thick/wavy hair, and she seemed dazed and confused when I sat down. Didn't seem to have much training. Would not recommend her for men. read more

Taylor was a life saver and absolutely amazing!! My hair was practically black and I was very hesitant to bleach it as that would have killed my hair. She worked very diligently and created a beautiful caramel brown which was exactly what I wanted. Everyone there was very sweet and helpful as well. I would recommend them and Taylor specifically to anyone who wants beautiful hair. Myra was angry before she even started speaking with me. She said the contrast color I wanted to use wouldn't work because it would just blend with the rest of my hair. We would have to use bleach. I said OK and that I would need to find a sample color so that she would know what I wanted to achieve. She started yelling again; was extremely irritated and hot under the collar. I went to 1313 and had Maya do my hair, she cut 2 inches off! I asked for a 1/2 inch trim, I even showed her with my fingers how much to cut! She was also late and was rude. I chose her because my stylist did not work that day she was the only one available for the time I wanted and the salon assured me she was the master stylist, and she would do the best on my hair. What a mistake I made I have been to the salon before and they always did well but not Maya. If you do go to this salon you should choose a different stylist. read more

I am a handicapped senior, who first saw a certain stylist because she did an adequate job with a relative's hair. I returned only because the cuts she did on me were okay. However, she continually raised controversial topics hoping I would respond with something with which she could argue. I remained silent throughout my visits. Finally, I had an appointment made well in advance. The stylist didn't show up for work that day. I wasn't notified before arrival. After waiting twenty minutes, I asked where she was. No one knew, but the receptionist tracked her down in another state. There was no explanation or apology to me by the stylist despite the obvious inconvenience to which I had been put. Where do i even begin? There aren't enough words to thank my beautiful stylist @Mya Marshall-Brown for what she did for me recently! I've been going to Mya for the past 4-5 years now. She's always come through for me and provided more than what a girl could ever ask for as far as results! Now... I haven't seen Mya in like a year or two because I have a crazy travel work schedule. I grew my hair out, long and back to being a brunette. Recently I had the worst hair experience if my life and i think I would've had to shave my head bald if I didn't have Mya in my life! Lesson learned! Seriously people it was bad! This stylist that I went to completely fried and I mean fried my hair! When I called to make an appt with Mya, my head was orange and gold and red and maybe more colors..i really don't know. My hair was literally melting in Mya's hands as she started to just rinse it. My beautiful long brunette hair that I grew out for 2-3 years...gone! Mya did everything she could to save my hair...and by God she did! 9 hrs later of color correction and treatments...I can't begin to tell you how much I love my hair now! Yes it's shorter, but Mya gave me a sexy long bob, ombre look that honestly suits me so much more. Mya pretty much brought my hair back from the dead. I've got sassy, wavy, short, ombre hair that I lalalalalove! I get compliments everywhere asking who did my hair. In the past, I never had a stylist that I went to consistently. I usually just walked in to a place and asked if any of the stylists had an opening. That changed after the first time I went to 1313 and had Delanee style my hair. She was a customer at the coffee shop where I worked and encouraged me to come in and let her style my hair. When I went in for my first appointment, she had all these ideas for color and style. I told her to do whatever she wanted and I was not disappointed. Delanee is incredibly talented and creative. She is always up with the latest trends and I love how she plays with colors. I'm always excited to show off my new look when I leave the salon. I highly recommend Delanee Chapman for highlights at 1313. I am a southerner who loves detailed high-lift blonde and bleach highlights with contrast (low-lights), back to back, all over, and to the root - and Delanee gave me just that. As a new client I was nervous and hesitant and she put my mind at ease. She had no problem and authentically desired to communicate with me about my specific needs and desires and genuinely offered me the opportunity to come back if I was not 100% satisfied. Delanee does an amazing job of integrating her amazing techniques from experience, attention to detail and your desires as a client, into the work she does with color. She does not cut any corners, uses quality product (I prefer Redken and Schwarzkopf) that yield excellent color pigment and ensures that you love the work she has done. I have found it hard to find a stylist in Boulder who can give you an amazing highlight and doesn't mind a picky client like myself, but I am now confident that I can at 1313 with Delanee. read more
