Twelve Ounce Studios may not be the cheapest option out there but it also isn't the most expensive. I searched online for several months for shops near me in South jersey - I finally chose Twelve Ounce for two reasons: 1) The social media and website were consistently updated 2) I could walk to the shop (an auto seatbelt would rub the area I wanted inked) While option two may not be important to everyone, it was a concern for me. I was last inked in the late 90s and in a different city and different body location so it had been a while for me. Also, they are easy to access off of US/NJ 130 north - just a few hundred feet north of the Brooklawn circles on Rt 130 north. I had the first appointment on a Thursday afternoon and Tami G did my work. I can not say enough for how great an experience she made it. Not only did she take the simple phrase I wanted to a work of art she presented options I had not considered. The shop interior is clean and 'hip' - whatever that means - and instills confidence.. I did have to wait a while as Tami developed art for me and then the stencil but it was time well worth the wait. Tami also encouraged me to critique placement and size - neither I had an issue with as she has an excellent sense of proportion and location. There was another client in the shop with me as I waited - his artist also consulted several times and listened to what the client wanted and revised the artwork several times. As other reviewers have posted, the private rooms are greatly appreciated. Do check out the work Tami has done on her own self - it is excellent. I cannot recommend 12 Oz Studios in Brooklawn, NJ enough - and Tami Rose as an Artist. I went in for a simple sketch - a sketch of my son's who passed recently - so, simple but incredibly meaningful. I called and booked an appointment, arrived 15 minutes early. At my booked start time, he brought back the woman in front of me. 25 minutes past my scheduled time, I pick my jewelry & Im informed it needs to be sterilized for 15 minutes. Not sure what the point of an appointment was, or why we couldn't have started the sterilization process sooner. The artist that pierced me did seem to have a sort of condescending, I-know-everything-you-know-nothing attitude about him. Like I get it, you're good at your job, but why do I have to be patronized for asking a question politely about something that's completely valid like what length bar they're using or? I was super uncomfortable with the way he spoke to me, it was embarrassing. I'm just frustrated I guess, no one should have to endure rude behavior and leave feeling uncomfortable. Right off the bat he told me I did not have the right anatomy for the piercing I wanted repierced. & he did not agree with my decision. I have 20+ APP piercings and no piercer has ever told me I did not have the right anatomy for what I wanted. I was excited to check out this reputable APP shop. & my mom even had her tongue pierced here previously. But whatever possessed me to stay after witnessing this behavior is beyond me, I selected jewelry and was told my selection would cost one amount. The experience of getting pierced was smooth, he walked me through everything he was doing and was very sanitary. The whole process was very clean. I went to pay & was told the total that would now be $45 more than the original price I was told. Plus I tip 20%, Despite how I was talked to. Hated the service. Staff told me how shitty my jewelry was before even seeing it, charged me a 20 dollar fee to unscrew my dermal and replace the jewelry topper. Pinched it in place and twisted, causing pain and swelling. Dermals are very sensitive implants and causing trauma to it isn't a good thing. Piercer was so full of himself but could barely make eye contact with me as I'm trying to have a conversation. Would never go back. Poor service very bad 1/100. He told me my dermal was 100 PERCENT going to reject in less than a few years like shut TF up not even true Dermals can last a long while especially if taken care of, Ps I called the shop I originally got the implant done (skin deep tattoo in Philadelphia) and they told me he was bullshitting about using two tools at once to remove/replace jewelry topper for dermal, because they have special tools specifically to reduce manipulation on anchor. read more

The entire shop was immaculate and all the staff were very friendly. AJ is extremely professional and skilled at what he does, but he also has a great way of making the customer feel very comfortable. He explained everything he was doing, used sterile equipment right out of the packaging, and pierced me quickly and almost painlessly! It is obvious AJ really cares about his craft, and he's got the portfolio to prove it. This place was awesome. The staff was really welcoming and were extremely informative. I went there to get a septum piercing. The person that did it was AJ. When he took me to for the prep he had me sit down and made sure I saw the sterilizing process & explained every procedure. I was really nervous getting the piercing but he made me extremely comfortable. He's also really great to converse with. Everything went smooth. They were really great at giving you a lot of information in regards to the cleaning process and healing. Turns out I cleaned my piercings the outdated way. The total cost was $70 for my septum. I have a endless tattoo project so I've been to many tattoo shops moving around the country. Tami is great there she is very passionate about her work and tries to go beyond expectations and follows up with you if you are going in for several sessions like myself. I like that the rooms are private. I always felt uncomfortable at other shops trying to keep myself covered with a full open room of people around me. I've been to 12 Oz. two times. Once for a piercing and once for a tattoo. For my piercing I went to the Deptford location and had an awesome experience. It was awkward at first because it was my first walk in for a piercing besides my ears which was when I was a baby. Anyway, AJ did an awesome job, he's always nice and welcoming and answered all of my questions- and I'm a perfectionist so I wanted all the information I could get. I got a hoop in my nose and everything went well, when I went back a few months later to change to a stud for work he was there and changed it for no extra charge other than the stud. A few months later I scheduled an appointment for a tattoo I was going to get on my upper arm. I had an appointment which was cancelled the day of by the shop because of something personal with Brendon (Brandon?), which was understandable- things happen. It took me a couple of weeks to reschedule but I got a new appointment and had the same artist. It was really awkward at first, but maybe it was just me. I went with my boyfriend and he chatted up a storm but I just kind of sat there. I had a tattoo that I designed myself, two different celtic symbols intertwined with my own color ideas. I told him what I wanted, just wanted him to clean it up a little because I wanted everything spot on, and I can't really tell if he did that or not. I told him I was open to any ideas if he had any, because I know some artists like to put their own twists but he didn't seen too interested. Color wise I like it for the most part...I wanted light and dark green with a yellow gold around the edges, and he did that but also put some yellow in a place that I didn't really expect it/ or want. So even though I really love the tattoo, I don't know how I feel about that part- but it's light so I could probably get it fixed if I decide I want to. That's just nit-picking though because it was my first tattoo. I would go back, maybe just try to be a little more clearer with what I wanted. I recommend! I got a tattoo at a convention last year and unfortunately the tattoo turned out nothing like the original picture I showed the tattoo artist. I spoke to a few tattoo artists and then met with Meghan Patrick. First of all, I love her! She has a great personality and is super sweet not to mention incredibly talented. I had to wait a long time to get in for my tattoo but it was well worth the wait. She did a great job on my semi coverup. I am thrilled with the results and would highly recommend her. Let me start by saying my friend and I went to get our septum's pierced for my birthday. We went to a different shop before going to 12 Oz, the guy who pierced my septum pierced it so crooked. I was mortified to go to another shop and try to get it pierced again. My friend found 12 Oz studio online and we went it and met AJ. He was so incredibly knowledgeable, and made me feel so comfortable about re piercing my septum. From start to finish AJ walked us through the whole process, including the sterilization process.
