I've been wanting one for a couple years in memory of my dad who passed away soon after planting them in his yard. I wanted something abstract but not too distorted, shared some photos and discussed things I liked and didn't about tattoos. Not cool. My husband went in recently on a Saturday and a couple people who worked there saw him but didn't say anything to him. No greeting. No mention that they would be with him in a minute. No ask of what he may want/need or courtesy that they were busy and wouldn't be able to take anyone for a while (or rest of the day). He walked about and looked at apparel, a few peoples portfolios, and still nothing. He left feeling like the shop could care less if he was a customer or not. Sad since he's been supporting this shop for over 10 years that we've lived here in Tracy. Hopefully this doesn't continue since We believe the shop has a lot of talent. I love Krystal more than anything!!! I've always heard or horror stories about Tracy local shops, but they had a Friday the 13th special and I couldn't pass up on that. Krystal was attentive and gentle. I have leukemia and I'm wheelchair bound, she generously helped me in and out of my chair and took extra precaution with wrapping up my tattoos because I am susceptible to infection. After seeing how great it looked we contacted Lefty to see if he could help with my wife's new tattoo. Talked to Lefty to see if he would be willing to take a look and see if he would be interested in touching it. Lefty was very nice and showed us what he could do. My wife sat down and he did his magic. My wife went from kinda liking her new tattoo to loving it. Lefty did a great job fixing it. My wife suggested for him to look at my tattoo that I always thought was too big to cover. Lefty heard us talking and said let me take a look. After Lefty showed me pics of what he could do with cover ups I was down. Just had to come up with an idea. Bounced a idea off Lefty and he had me go read about the meanings of the tattoo to get an idea of positioning. I came up with my idea and Lefty was into it. Made my first appointment and Lefty was on time, very professional, easy going and good company to spend your time with. Lefty's station and entire shop is very clean and professional. I used to go to 12 monkeys for all of my tattoos until Lefty completely butchered my entire sleeve and the portrait of my dog. My sleeve came out horrible and the portrait I have of my grandfather isn't even recognizable. The portrait completely faded out and you can't even see his face anymore. I wanted all red roses and he only did 1 red, which makes no sense and refused to do the rest in red. He was always in a rush like your ideas and what you wanted didn't matter. I have spent almost 12k plus to get my sleeve completely redone. The portrait of my dog is almost not fixable, Lefty left my arm permanently scarred up. If you want your tattoos to come out great and exactly what you want, don't go to Lefty. The portrait on the Left was done by Lefty. read more

My review is for both the shop and for my artist Ric When I first walked in I was greeted by artist Shawn Edwards, he was in the middle of a tattoo. He said hello and asked what I was interested in and told me to talk to Ric, he already did a tattoo on me a few years back (my sons middle name and birthdate). I told Ric what I was interested in getting and he was interested in what I wanted which made me happy cause he was going to take care of me, I gave him the basics of what I wanted and where I wanted it, he then did a basic outline of my arm, I then gave him he liberty of doing it his style, took down my number, set a date, left a deposit with him. About 4 days later I went into my appointment and got my ink. Ric was there showed me the work and then we proceeded to start the session, about 4 hours was gone and I was extremely happy with the tattoo. Fast forward about 2 weeks after my tattoo was healed I had the bug to get another tattoo, I went in and saw Ric again, he greeted me, checked out his previous work and he was happy with it, I told him what I wanted next and again he was happy to help and draw up a design, a few days passed and texted me a picture of what he came up with. Even though it was just a penciling of what I wanted I was even more excited for the upcoming appointment. The experience was the same as the last. Rick brought me to his station, got his materials ready, had me get into position for the tattoo and made sure everything was comfortable. This tattoo was done in About 6 hours. Again Ric was excited for what he was doing and the design, I got what he likes doing, this tattoo was the same I gave him the liberty for the design. I just told him what I wanted and the colors. The shop is beautiful, the artists make you feel welcomed, they get to you when they can, you can check out the other artist work in their books, they gave your basic flash art on the wall, custom paintings for sale. The prices were great and not ridiculous, I'm happy knowing that Ric takes pride in what he does and I'm happy with what I paid, can't wait to think of something else to get and see Ric again. read more

This is only been the 3rd shop I've been to, and I've only been here once so my review is based purely off this one visit, but overall, I'm very happy with how things turned out. I had originally been in contact with this other artist at a different shop. But after I told him what I wanted he totally stopped texting me. I knew he was slow to respond so I gave it a few days but still nothing. At this point I was either going to wait, text him again or go somewhere else. That's when I saw Jess had some openings the following week. What made it even better is one of the openings was a Saturday. I messaged her on Instagram and she was super responsive. The whole process from start to finish took less than an hour. I basically told her, in general, what I wanted and let her take it from there. This was a cover up, , which I've done before, but I'm still not too familiar with how that's done so I just rely on the artist to tell me LOL Anyways, the appointment it self was super smooth. Got to the shop, people there were very friendly. Worked with Jess to get the sizing and placement right. And then we got started. The shop is really clean. I've never been to a dirty shop before but I've heard some shops are pretty gross. This place seems very sanitary and the chair was actually pretty comfortable. I've been in seats that didn't feel too sturdy before LOL Jess worked pretty quick. The piece wasn't too complex so maybe that's why or maybe I've just always worked with slower moving artists in the past. Idk either way, the whole appointment only lasted an hour and a half or so. I'll be going back in a couple of weeks for a touch up plus some more work so I look forward to that! I highly recommend checking this shop out. They've been in Tracy forever. I think they're celebrating their 20 year anniversary right now. I remember learning about them back in middle or high school. So I would say they're pretty well known in Tracy. Thanks! read more

We showed Shawn what we wanted and he drew it up better than what we wanted and my tattoo was done in 10 minutes and my husband's was done in 45 minutes. I reached out via to her Instagram on Friday the 13th and to my surprise was left on open for hours which is understandable being that she may be busy, so I sent another message. My whole conversation with her the last 3 days has seemed like she has no interest in tattooing me and comes across as very unprofessional, I don't believe it should take 3 days to try and set up an appointment. Keep in mind, this would be my first tattoo so I wasn't sure about the sizing and was looking for a little advice and was left talking to someone who came across and uninterested and unprofessional, if she doesn't want to tattoo me then SAY IT! My review is for Sean. He is amazing. I've had all of my tattoos done at 12 Monkeys, and all of them have been done by Sean. I got my first tattoo (on my wrist) when I was 18. Since then I have gotten 2 others (large piece on back, medium-sized bicep piece) and they are just as beautiful. The tattoo on my bicep is the only one I have in color so far, and is the only one that is starting to need a little bit of touch-up. My first tattoo which is going on 3 years old has honestly not really faded at all. Sean is great to work with. Each time I have gone in with a vision of what I have wanted, and he has been able to help me form it and make my vision a reality. He is friendly and fun, and makes the work nearly painless. As far as the shop goes, the new place is great! The old place was cool too - but the new shop is clean and comfortable to hang out in if you have to wait. Also, I love how they give you a set price when they draw up your piece rather than having to pay by hour or session or anything like that. I've always gotten amazing prices for the work that's done. Honestly, some friends show me their tattoos and tell me how much they pay and I urge them to go to 12 Monkeys. Why pay more for lesser quality. I didn't get the experience getting a tattoo, I scheduled my sister and I's tattoo about 3 weeks ago for the 22nd at 2pm drove over 30 miles to get there and when I arrive I am told the artist went to the store. So we waited and another man came out and said he didn't have me down on his schedule, even after I called yesterday to confirm our appointment. I was very disappointed in the lack of organization. And no compensation. Very disappointed and will not return there. Just sucks that this place came so highly recommend from friends and family and this happened. read more

01-18-20 I had Artist "Lefty" tattoo my arm/shoulder. It was a semi-custom piece. Came out exactly how I wanted. 4 years ago on my 18th birthday my bestfriend took me to 12 monkeys and payed for my tattoo as a birthday gift. I GOT MY FIRST TATTOO HERE. Salt Rock was the tattoo artist that took care of me. He walked me through it step-by-step. I came in already having my design in hand that i drew before of Filipino Alibata Characters to represent my Filipino Pride. He also gave me advice on what would look right and of course i took it since he's done soo many tattoos on different age groups. I dont know if Salt Rock is still working there but if your thinking of getting somthing done he's someone to go and make an appointment with. I planned a long time to get a tattoo in memory of my grandma whose name was Rosemary. It was hard for me to decide who I trusted because it's such an important tattoo to me, but I was told about Shawn from family members who have come to him multiple times. I planned ahead of time when I gave him my tattoo idea because I understand that he is swamped and when he was ready, I was more than excited to come in and check it out. My appointment got planned for the next week and it was exactly when I was hoping for. I got my rose on the right shoulder, so the pain was going to be minimal anyways, but Shawn is extremely light handed so I barely felt it. To say that I love my rose is an understatement.
