A Really Great Find in Pembroke Pines…read more KAERU SUSHI & GRILL is a small, beautifully decorated restaurant with a really pleasant and inviting atmosphere. It has a relaxed, modern izakaya feel that makes it a great place to enjoy a meal without feeling overly formal. I tried the sashimi appetizer, shishito peppers, a beet dish, and the teriyaki chicken, and everything was amazing. The ingredients tasted fresh, the flavors were well balanced, and each dish felt thoughtfully prepared. There's a creativity to the menu that really sets it apart from your typical sushi restaurant. Walk ins are welcome, but I highly recommend making a reservation, especially during busy evenings since the restaurant is on the smaller side. I'll definitely be back. KAERU is one of the better modern izakaya style restaurants I've found in the area and is absolutely worth checking out. Highly recommended!

Osaka Brickell: Extraordinary…read more My wife and I visited Osaka in Brickell, Miami, this evening--and I was so impressed that I rushed home to write this review. The Verdict In one word: extraordinary. We loved it. Restaurants often use the word "fusion" loosely, but at Osaka, it truly applies. The menu delivers Peruvian and Japanese fusion at its best: a thoughtful blend of South American and Japanese flavors, with each bite offering a beautifully engineered explosion of taste. Food The food is creative, beautifully presented, and genuinely unique--but Osaka offers much more than great dishes. Our server, Yesenia, guided us with recommendations that balanced our preferences with the restaurant's signature flavors, including a remarkably fresh sashimi amuse-bouche, Kiiro ceviche, a Hongos Teppan trumpet mushroom dish that was not listed on the menu, and a Nikkei Makimono that brought Peruvian flavors into a traditional sushi roll. The restaurant manager, Miki, also checked in during our meal. The service was casual, attentive, and perfect. Ambiance is paid to every detail. We ate at the sushi bar, but the main dining area was spectacular, and the bar area was sublime. Lastly, the music was a combination (fusion) of new age, Peruvian jungle music and Japanese sounds all blended into a crescendo on the experience. Try it....you'll love it. Ten out of ten !

I was very intrigued by the use of the Konro grill that burns binchotan coal, I actually wanted to…read moreget a Konro grill but never got around to do it. It is my understanding that these are used at yakitori shops around the world. Anyhow, when I saw that Dojo Izakaya used this grill, I had to check them out. The restaurant is pretty modern and the service is top notch. I got a vibe of a x star Michelin restaurant, but fortunately/unfortunately it is not. I ordered the fried chicken, grilled gyozas, and a grilled branzino. The chicken was really good, with excellent flavors. The grilled items had a special grilled flavor, more intense but also more delicate than regular smoked foods. It is a nice alternative to regular charcoal grills that many places use, as well as smokers at smoked meat restaurants. I appreciate the offerings, the variety, good flavors, etc. The menu changes weekly or monthly, so this is an active menu that offers diversity. If the restaurant wants to be a fine dining restaurant, I can see them going in that direction. Otherwise, they could stay as they are and continue using the unique grill flavors.
