I dropped in at 10th Planet Seattle (in Bellevue) for a couple of days while in Bellevue for work. Excellent grappling academy. SUPER clean. Welcoming. Good culture. Diverse. Innovative techniques. This gym is owned and run by Eddie Bravo black belt, Nathan Orchard (who the "Dead Orchard" position was named after). And the curriculum and approach is just as imaginative as you'd expect from such an innovator of the sport. As a visiting white belt with about a year's experience, I took the beginner, intermediate and advanced classes. Professors Matt, Adrian and Nathan (Owner) were all extremely friendly and helpful and I got a lot out of each class. I would recommend this academy for anyone. For beginners looking to get into no-gi jiu jitsu for the first time, you'll find a welcoming nurturing atmosphere. For long-time experienced grapplers visiting or looking for a new training home, you'll find skilled training partners and creative new ways of looking at techniques; perspectives/approaches that are both fun and effective. I hope to visit again next time I'm in the area. Thanks 10th Planet Seattle!

They have a strong focus on safety before, after and during classes as well as a solid process for insuring that drop-in visitors have a great experience. I would definitely recommend T3MA Redmond to anyone visiting the PNW or anyone who lives in the area and is looking at starting BJJ.

The review of the facility is for the 3-7 year old class: We signed our 3 y/o son up for the 3-7 year old class and did so without a trial session - during our visit of the facility and explanation of the class, we were resolved to have our son start and thought T3MA would be the perfect environment- We paid for the 1st month and GI upfront (+$400 in total fees) The front staff said that the instructor would introduce themselves to our son to soften nerves. Most of the students are closer to 7 than 3, and the class is definitely geared that way as well. Not only did the instructor not introduce themselves (any of them), within a couple minutes of the class starting, there was an immediate frustration that he would take some extra attention relative to the 6 and 7 year olds, and one of the instructors came over and said "If he doesn't start to participate on his own in the next couple minutes, we're going to ask him to sit on the side. We cannot give him special attention over the other students". Large contrast to what was explained. In hindsight we should have done the trial, but the explanation of this class for our 3 y/o son was much more considerate of his age. I'll forever have an image of my son sitting in a line prior to class and saying to me "dad, I'm so nervous", which is frustrating because they did nothing to alleviate that and made it worse as they were agitated that he needed extra attention. We gut check that experience, we then did a trial at a different national chain BJJ facility in Bellevue and had a night and day experience. The instructor spent a couple minutes with my son prior to, introducing himself, making jokes with him and becoming familiar to each other. The class itself was geared for 3-4 year olds and not 5-7 - there was an expectation that 3 and 4 year olds have limited attention spans and it catered to it. Much better for what we were looking for. Now the management piece - I then asked T3MA if they could treat my 1 and only class as a "free trial" - as they do offer and refund the month we paid for and at least a partial refund of the GI we paid for, since it is specific to T3MA and cannot be used anywhere else. I was told in email essentially "we offer a free trial, you should have done that first" - following by no response for 7 days upon protest, including not answer and returning phone calls and several email follow-ups, for again them to say "you had the option of a free class and didn't take it, tough luck". I was surprised by the class experience because it didn't match what was relayed, but I was very surprised by that response and unwillingness to refund any of the $400+ that I was out for my sons single class. Hope this helps families avoid a similar mistake - If you're considering T3MA, definitely do a trial, and more importantly, trial other facilities other than T3MA so you can benchmark the atmosphere and class prior to committing to T3MA.

There's no politics. There's just good-natured, intense-as-you-need-to-be, technique-focused, wholesome training. The flexible class schedule throughout the week is also a HUGE plus. Early morning classes? Check. Midday classes? Got you covered. Evening Classes? Absolutely! Weekend classes and open mats? Oss! Gi and No-gi? Definitely - both available multiple times per week, I should add. And, we also have a Women's & Non-Binary class! And if you are a beginner, the Foundations program devised by the seasoned instructors is the best that I've seen throughout my 8+ years of training in the US and in Asia. The curriculum covers what you need to know so that you can learn to handle live sparring at your own pace. Regardless of whether you are a newbie or a grizzled mat monster (or something in between), Framework is a professionally-operated, technically-sound, members-oriented, welcoming BJJ dojo that is sure to have what you are looking for! Come get some!

If that lot is filled you can also park up top where the recreational park is. As a jiu jitsu journey man I have found what I like and what I try to avoid when I visit a BJJ club. The culture and energy at frameworks is hands down one of the best vibes I've ever experienced. The best part about this school is there are a lot of high level practitioners so you are sure to gain a lot just from the rolls. As mentioned earlier, framework has one of the best welcoming all inclusive vibes that I look for when visiting. They don't have a bro-ey cult vibe that can be associated unfortunately with some schools. Overall, if you want to learn jiu jitsu, whether you've trained for years or have considered it but are hesitant because it can be intimidating, I can assure you that you will feel very welcomed if you visit and train at Framework. I've been doing jiu jitsu for a lil over a decade, visiting and training at many schools so I'm pretty confident with my take over at framework. Thanks for reading!

My perspective is only from…read moreobservation of their Saturday classes for my 7-yr old and 4-yr old daughters so there are other aspects that I am definitely missing from their many other sessions. Positively, it is not the "Cobra Kai" of Judo. It is a family-run nurturing dojo that genuinely cares for its young students. Sensei June Encarnacion is a very dedicated instructor that volunteers his time (and the time of his son and Olympic hopeful daughter) along with the other instructors. With that comes the welcome lack of high-pressure sales (as mentioned in the other reviews), free trial classes, and encouragement for everyone to participate regardless of skill or experience. Most importantly, it draws other instructors that come because they want to spend their time teaching and practicing. For those interested, Seiei respects Japanese tradition and customs without going "Bushido Spartan". Seiei welcomes students from all ages, experience, and backgrounds. It is a gem of a find to have a 30-yr veteran giving his time so freely. With his experience comes solid techniques and unique training methods for the younger kids. The class sizes are growing and the dojo may soon need a bigger space for all its students. So where's the 5th star? Perhaps I was brought up in a less nurturing environment (i.e., seiza on the hard floor for punishment, 20 push-ups for missing a ground ball in T-ball, bringing home an "A-" on a test just brought on questions about the minus, why 45 minutes of piano practice was not as good as an hour, etc.), so there's always room for improvement. But maybe if my instructors were as kind and patient as Sensei I would have stuck to my training. :)
