Nice place to train! I was visiting Seattle on a work trip and I stopped by for a drop in class, everyone was welcoming and friendly.

Moving to Seattle from San Francisco and decided to checkout the Jiu-Jitsu classes here run by Arthur Ruff.

Loss of two stars…read more So I went into the facility (as they demanded) back in April to cancel the account. Sure enough, the very polite person on duty turned to the computer, punched a few keys (no pun intended) and then told me I was good to go. What? Why couldn't I do this over the phone? It makes no sense. All I can imagine was the upsell. They tried to upsell me into buying individual sessions. No thanks. Again, great people but poor business practices. Took one star off of my 3 star rating. Here I am now (June) doing a few bills online. What's this I see? 9Round charged me for June? Huh? I see charges every month which stopped in May but then picked back up in June. Odd. Minus another star. I won't be going into the facility to cancel again.

The space is always clean and well organized. Russel has been the only trainer I've worked with so far and he's great. He is super friendly, but also brings a level of joking that makes you feel like you've been coming there for months rather than days. While he is nice, he's also there to make you work. He pushes and motivates you to work harder. Maybe more importantly, his playlists are always on point. He has been very helpful whenever I ask what a move is or how to do it, I have never felt nervous about asking for help like I have in other places. I've been stuck in a funk where I've missed all the mid-day classes at most gyms and would have to go home, disrupt our evening routine to drive somewhere else, then get back to a delayed bedtime for my kid. 9 Round is the best because there are no class times. I pop in right when they open in the afternoon and get home right when the rest of my family does. I've been bringing all my co-workers here. If you're on the fence, you should definitely just go in for your free first workout.

Every instructor has been welcoming, highly competent, and teaches you something new. I was able to quit all my other physical activities and stay in pretty great shape just coming here, despite my terrible dietary habits. Even the virtual workouts the team put together during the worst months of the COVID shutdown kept me fit, and probably kept me sane as well. Gym culture is key in a martial arts gym and I can tell you that everyone here is helpful, friendly, and willing to challenge you in a way that is respectful and builds you up without ever being uncomfortable or risky. There can also be some variation depending on who you work with for partner drills, especially when the class is full, but having been both a total rookie and a veteran I can tell you there is always something to work on - technique, speed, power, adjusting for reach etc. The key is coming back, working with someone new, and continuing to improve. Instructors will make extra time for you when you are new. Be aware that this is a gym and there is definitely seasonality - early spring it can get full, early fall there tends to be a lot of new members, many of whom are new to Seattle (I assume recent grads). That said, the instructors do a good job adjusting the class depending on average skill level and space available.
