I didn't have a great experience at this Krav Maga class. The instructor didn't introduce himself or the structure of the class and went straight into training, which felt unwelcoming, especially as a beginner. New students were immediately paired with much more experienced people without any guidance, which made it hard to keep up and honestly a bit discouraging. The teaching style made me feel more confused than supported, and at times I felt talked down to rather than coached. Overall, it wasn't a good first impression and didn't feel beginner-friendly. read more

Don't give this man your credit card number. He can't be trusted with it. I gave him my credit card number, and after I stopped taking classes with him he started charging me without letting me know. I asked for a refund, he acknowledged what had happened, but he ignored my repeated requests. So that tells you what you need to know about how far you can trust the business owner. Attached is a screen cap of the text chat where he acknowledged the error & offered to send a check, but in the months since then he has ignored me. Instead of sending me a check, he lied about remembering that I wanted to take more classes from him. PS: Within hours of my posting this review, they contacted me and have now made good on the erroneous charges. It took 18 months from when I first emailed them to getting a check. 2-07-2023 I've been going for about a month now, taking five classes a week. I honestly enjoy it. The instructors are very patient and engaging. I was super nervous at first when I started the classes but everyone is so welcoming. I did have to take a bit of a break since I've been having some personal issues but MC has been super helpful and understanding. The dojo is very clean as well since we wipe down our equipment and stations after our class. The classes are fun and if ur looking for a good work out join the striking classes. The krav classes are challenging as well. I always leave the day feeling accomplished. Look forward to more classes in the future. March 2023 This place has shady business practices and makes it a pain in the ass to get your membership canceled. The lack of response from management is unprofessional and concerning. I really wanted to avoid making a bad review but this has been an ongoing issue. I wound give it zero starts if I could I had been in contact with the owner MC in regards to canceling my membership. I signed up for a month free trial in January. My free month trial was supposed to end on February 17. I was told the membership was $150 monthly but because I was doing the free trial I had to put down $100 as an accountability fee and if I wished to continue my membership then the $100 would be rolled over to February and in February I would only pay $50. If I didn't wish to continue then the $100 would be refunded. This was not the case and I was charged $165. I reached out to MC before my free trial ended informing him I would not be able to continue and he said he would pause my membership. Please see messages attached to the review. I was still charged after for the month of March. I had to dispute these charges with my bank. Because I had to dispute two charges for February and March my bank also had to cancel my card. This is such an inconvenience at this point. I've texted him several times and he does not get back or communicate anything. April 2023 Received an email notification saying they attempted to charge my old card. I don't understand stand how this has been an ongoing issue for three months now. I have called and left messages. I dont understand how a company can be this incompetent. I don't want this to progress in anyway or be sent to collections. I just want my membership canceled. I don't want anything to do with this business. Please cancel my membership!! No I don't want a pause or any sort of compensation !!! Just cancel the damn membership. I will post an update if needed but I've attempted to call and email several times on the 17th. I will be going to the location sometime this week. I want to be clear that I have no problem with the instructors, the classes, or the environment. What I have a problem with is they're non-existent customer service. I need to cancel my membership, and reached out to them to do so. No one got in touch with me, and I have reached out multiple times to cancel and no one seems to know what is going on. They have gotten back to me twice, to tell me that someone else would reach out to me as no one handles the billing in house. Krav Maga Renton is a billing scam. My wife signed up for a one year membership, after which the membership was month to month. She called and emailed for months to cancel and no one returned any communication. We've filled out all paper work for cancellation yet they continue to find ways to bill us and blame it on the billing service. We've notified our bank to no longer allow them to bill and they someone circumvented by charging via a different service name. Still months later we are fighting this battle. read more

SCAM!!! SCAM!!! SCAM!!! SCAM!!! SCAM!!! SCAM!!! I REALLY wish I would have read the reviews before I came to this place. I went there with two of my friends and we were all told that if we paid $150 each, we could come for an unlimited amount of times for that month. Nobody said anything about a membership or a contract or anything of that nature. We paid and then they just continued to bill me after that. I called to speak to them about it and they just sent me a copy of their "terms and agreements" which basically states that unless I die or become permanently disabled, they will continue to keep billing me. For the record, I never agreed to their terms and conditions. After reading some of the reviews, I looked up their business license and sure enough, they've been Administratively Dissolved since March of this year which means the only business their supposed to be doing is settling debts, closing accounts and shutting down their operation. I will be notifying my credit bureas to make sure they don't try to fraudulently report me and if so, then I'll allow my attorney to take care of it from there. I'm on the tail end of my trial membership, and I love it. My goal was to get a workout in, as well as learn a bit about self-defense. That being said, I haven't actually made it to the Krav Maga class, but I've taken striking and yoga. They have different levels for the Krav Maga classes, but it involves a lot of partner work. Striking is a mixture of boxing/kickboxing basics on a punching bag. I'm not a super active person. I didn't even know how to throw a proper punch prior to taking classes here, so I just felt more comfortable in the striking class. You get a great workout, and you never feel awkward. I mainly went to MC's striking classes. MC is a great coach. His classes are always fun, you get a few laughs in and even the attendees are helpful. The music is always good, too, which is important. It's usually a mix of old-school hip hop/pop/rock (?) classics. I also really enjoy the yoga instructor. She guides you through yin flows, which allow you to get really deep into the stretches. Definitely a plus, especially after taking a couple striking classes a week. She ends each class with singing bowls, which is also a great touch! read more

Giving this business one star for its lack of professionalism when trying to cancel a membership. The classes are good BUT ONLY if you can work around the limited schedule AND ONLY if you plan on being a member for life since it's almost impossible to get them to cancel your membership. I am a traveling healthcare worker and have been out of the state since October. I have been trying to cancel my membership since the beginning of December. They told me to fill out a form to cancel and I did. Since then I have been charged twice! I have sent multiple emails and I have left multiple voicemails since no one is ever available to answer the phone in their billing department, and still no response from them. I even went as far as going to the facility to talk with someone in person and they told me there is nothing they can do in house even after I explained everything and how I've been getting no response! Krav Maga Renton has been amazing for my son. The instructors meet each student at their level. The environment is very welcoming. My son is extremely shy and believes that everything should and can be solved with words. He is such a peaceful guy that even getting him to agree to class was huge. MC has helped him understand that he's not learning how to fight but how to protect himself if someone is not choosing to use their words. He enjoys going and looks forward to it. He has taken karate and tae kwon-do but he would complain about going and wouldn't spar with a partner. It was so frustrating. I am very disappointed in Dojo 3. I signed up for the Krav maga classes while my 10 week premature son was in the NICU. Upon his discharge, he had a feeding tube put in and had to follow strict feeding guidelines and feeding schedule. I already live about 18 miles from the dojo so getting to and from wasn't the easiest but I did it because I really enjoyed the class. However when trying to attend with my son's special needs it became incredibly difficult and I had to request to cancel my membership. I followed all the protocol the staff asked me to, and still they deemed it as "not a legit reason to cancel" seriously? My special needs son needing my care around the clock isn't a sufficient enough reason to cancel my membership? So all the while (with the covid-19 pandemic going on) my card is still getting charged despite them not even offering classes. Absolutely ridiculous. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE customer service and lack of compassion. My family will always come before a trivial gym membership. DO NOT SIGN UP HERE! These are scam artists that want to lock you into a membership and keep you there no matter what maybe going on in your life. Go to the Gracie Barra in Federal way instead. My husband is a member there and they know how to run a legitimate Martial Arts facility. I stumbled upon Krav Maga Renton by chance. My wife purchased a Groupon for the Zumba Studio that is in the same building and she told me that I should check out the dojo so we could coordinate out workouts together. I signed up for the free trail class and have been hooked ever since. Let me give you some back ground about me when I first signed-up. I had just turned 35, weighed over 310 lbs at only 5'9", I have worked a desk job and ate poorly for over 10 years, asthmatic, pre-diabetic and grossly out of shape...I needed to exercise more. I had a gym membership for a couple years and worked out a few days a week, mostly lifting weights and doing very light cardio. I had no expectations going into Krav Maga Renton other than learning how to defend myself and to get moving and exercising a little more. Needless to say I was not prepared for what was in store; the most intense, fun, invigorating and educational experience I have ever had. I could barely make it through the first class, actually, 5 months later I still have trouble making it through a whole class...they are that intense. MC is an absolutely fantastic instructor, he is passionate about his art(s) and knows how to teach to adults (and kids too, I like to watch him teach the little ones TKD). He treats you with courtesy and respect, he knew my name after one class and he truly cares about his members and makes sure they learn everything correctly to truly be safe and learn self-defense. So 5 months later, I am down to 262lbs, that's 50lbs lost in 5 months, and I am stronger and healthier. Most importantly I know how to defend myself and my family. Krav Maga, MC and the staff at Krav Maga Renton/Dojo 3 helped make this happen. Not only do I get the best workout imaginable, I am learning a useful skill (that I hope not to have to use), I am taught by an excellent instructor and I get to train with some pretty great people, who help push me through the class with encouragement and motivation. Not going to lie, I had my butt handed to be on a silver platter tonight. Master Chung is apparently in LA right now so another student filled in (Phi, I believe) for the Krav Maga 1 class. Within the first 10 minutes of warming up, I was already tired. I knew my endurance was bad, but I didn't realize HOW bad it was... We learned how to punch straight on, to the side, to the back, how to execute a palm strike, and how to block yourself from being punched. Krav Maga is amazing.. My first time was very nerve racking, didn't know what to expect and I got my butt kicked and got hit twiced in the head. It was an accident because I was confused, it was my first time. The second time I went is much better because I already know a little bit of it and I am excited just to learned all the moves and how to kick someone's butt...lol... We learned all the basics of punching, hitting and using the right muscles, arms and legs and how to protect your self. Master Chung is very good in explaining all the things in detail and how to use them when needed. I have signed up for a 10 classes I believe and I have a few more to go and I am just excited to be in it.. For those of you that would want to try it, I guarantee you will not waste money or even your time trying it because you will learn so much and it is for your own good and safety. I moved from Pioneer Square to Tukwila and needed to find a new gym. My health insurance offered a discount to the LA Fitness near Southcenter and it was NOT cutting it. I didn't like the impersonal environment and could never get the motivation to go. I ended up finding a facebook ad about a womens-only fitness challenge at Dojo 3. It sounded like exactly what I needed: a short commitment, entry-level, women-only, and it was going to cover self-defense! Going into day 1 I had never heard of Krav Maga. But, I loved it. The workouts were varied and fast paced and I was surrounded by women in the same boat as I was. If I had just stumbled upon Dojo 3, I'd probably be too intimidated to jump right into a level one class, what with being in a completely new environment, having no idea what it was, and being the new kid in school. The 6-week challenge brings together a group of women that grow confidence and stamina together, and I ended up looking forward to class every single time. The Instructor, MC, is both professional and personable. He puts things into perspective and by the third week, I felt more than ready to take on a coed class with other people who had been training for months! I struggled for sure, but the new-kid anxieties were gone! I just recently signed up for a year long membership at Dojo 3, now that I only have days left in my challenge. And sure, it's more expensive than the LA Fitness 10 minutes down the street but 1) it's a better workout 2) it's a place you'll actually look forward to going to 3) it's a local business, you're helping out your community 4) it's so family-friendly, the owner's kids seem to literally grow up in the dojo, and everyone seems to know and take care of each other I cannot recommend this place enough. I've done research on Krav Maga for quite some time before I first purchased a Groupon several months back. After a few Krav Maga classes, I was hooked. As you are told, this isn't a fitness class and you are encouraged to avoid confrontation. However, if someone tries to attack you or cause you harm, they will pay a stiff penalty after you unleash a wide variety of attacks to end the fight as quickly as possible. The instructors are challenging and push you to excel. I feel myself improving and I like the wide variety of scenarios you encounter in the classes. You notice an increased confidence level and become more vigilant when you are around people you cherish the most in your life. Recently, my oldest daughter joined Krav Kids and this has been a positive experience as well. MC and the instructors are very approachable, helpful and genuinely care about their students. The instructors take an active interest in the development of others - a great sign in finding quality instruction. I'm a newer student here and I have nothing negative to say about this place. The instructors are great and helpful, giving constant feedback to the students. You can watch and train with videos at home but there is nothing better than being live in a class practicing and learning as a group as you are beating each other up. I started Krav Maga about 4 years ago at Krav Maga Worldwide in Los Angeles. I was never athletic before and always hated working out but once I started taking Krav Maga classes, my entire outlook changed. I LOVE working out now and I'm learning an awesome skillset while I do it. Terrible customer service - I signed up for the "free" class and have to put the card on file for that and have now been charged every month $132 that I do not have. I have emailed, called, and texted to cancel this for 3 months now and have had no luck and no response back until now with them saying I don't "qualify for cancellation" with no further explanation of how I ended up getting charged in the first place. They said they will not allow me to cancel the "Membership" and that I will continue to be charged for an unclear amount of time and no refund will be given for the 3 months I have been asking this to be canceled. This is the worst customer service I have seen and I highly DO NOT recommend this place. I have attended other similar classes and facilities around the area for kickboxing and other martial arts and I have never before seen such terrible service. This is not your Mr. Miyagi's karate. Real situation fight training for all physical abilities. Most fight training even MMA or Submission Wrestling is not practical in the real world were there are no rules, no ref, hard ground and usually not one on one. Krav Maga teaches you how to fight and defend yourself if you ever needed it - or if you are just tempted to try something hard and physical. Krav is practical as it won't teach you complicated spinning kicks, flying elbows and other Matrix-style fight techniques. Instead it focusing on being agressive and finishing the fight quick and fast. Not only is Krav an excellent technique, Krav Maga Renton is the best facility in Washingotn to learn. Where the instuctors also have a foundation in teaching other forms of martial arts. So the moves can be broken down with proper instruction. You can learn technique as well as understanding "why" those techniques work, when you would use them and when you wouldn't While it can be hard and aggressive, don't be intimidated to give it a shot. I dance, so I was actually taking zumba in the same facility Krav Maga Renton has their classes. Krav Maga appealed to me because of its focus on self defense for the "street" and use of basic instincts for fighting. I was a little intimidated by the class since it consisted of mostly guys, but decided to go for it anyway. I still do take zumba, but i find myself taking Krav even more than I do zumba. For anyone that is completely foreign to the whole Krav Maga thing ( like I was) here's some info that you might find helpful Facility: Dojo 3 is a family facility that houses 1) zumba fitness 2) krav maga 3) tae kwon do. This is really great especially for families because there is something for everyone, so the whole family could join. or you could be like me and take both krav and zumba and get one hell of a workout! If you have really little ones -- dojo 3 even has a childcare facility!! There is plenty of parking available as they have their own parking lot, however in the evening with zumba and krav going on at the same time it may get a little full, but you are free to park across the street. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Definitely up there when it comes to customer service. I feel like Dojo 3 creates a family environment that sets them apart from any other gym/workout facility. It makes the experience that much better. Instruction: Master Chung is basically the main instructor you will be dealing with. I believe he has trained in 8 different kinds of martial arts, so skill wise- that should say enough. He does a good job at pacing the class according to the number of new students/faces, so if there is a lot of new students he'll break techniques down a little more. He also will go around to groups for a little more personalized attention which means that you don't need to be afraid of being "lost" in the class. Also everyone that takes class is really friendly and helpful. Those that have been taking krav for a little longer also help out new faces...like I said, we're like a family here. Typical Class: You will definitely get a great workout in a krav maga class. Typically, you will start off with some cardio pumping warm up drill, whether it be shadow boxing, running, drills, etc. After warm up you will stretch out and then focus on some techniques such as straight punches, kicks, chokes, hammers, etc. Usually class ends with some aggression/awareness drills which simulate circumstances that could happen in real life. Remember that krav maga is a contact "sport" so you will get choked, pulled, punched & kicked (with a pad), etc. You may come out of your first class out of breath, bruised or sore, but you get used to it i promise. You will need wraps/ fighting gloves as well as a Krav maga shirt for class, But they are available for purchase at the dojo. Why I loove krav maga: not only do I get a great workout out of it, I like that you learn how to throw offensives (kicks, punches, knees, etc) as well as take them ( through pads). I find it really beneficial especially for a short girl like me (5' 2"). I feel like if i am ever attacked, I would be more prepared to defend myself against my attacker. Krav maga is the best when you have a bad day! haha. I saw a FB ad for a 6 week challenge. Although I was intimidated and really had no idea what Krav was, I decided to sign up since I have been pretty dormant this last year and needed to kickstart my fitness. I am on my 6th week of the challenge and cannot believe how much stronger and leaner my body is. The fitness, the self defense skills and the community makes this the most fun I have ever had working out. It is hard work, but MC somehow makes us dig deeper than I ever thought possible. While tradtional martial arts may focus on a lifetime of learning and mastery, Krav Maga lends itself to the busy lifestyle of most adults who can't commit to train 5-6 times a week. For those interested in a more traditional training path, Krav Maga Renton offers advanced classes that allow you to hone your skillset, and learn advance techniques. As with most exercises and especially of hand to hand combat, there is some risk of injury. The People: The master instructor Richard "M.C." Chung is simply amazing. His coaching skills are some of the best I've ever encountered. He is quickly able to assess your abilities and give you a tailored program that fits to you. As you advance in skill he's able to give you small adjustments to maximize your techniques--something that makes him stand head and shoulders above most trainers. He is always willing to answer questions, and works with you if you are having a hard time grasping a certain technique. M.C. keeps class engaging, while pushing us up to and past our physical limits. Class is fun, exciting, and a great workout. M.C. is a major reason for this. Hands down, M.C is fantastic and a real pleasure to train under. The Students: Everyone who attends Krav Maga is cool. We're almost like a family in a way. On my first day, the advanced students all introduced themselves to me, and right away one of them took me under his wing to help learn some techniques. The big boys like to roughhouse with each other, but do a good job of scaling down for those who are new or otherwise a bit overwhelmed by size mismatches. It is very intense and gets you sweating with a full body workout while teaching students the essentials of self defense, within the very first class. I've practiced Krav Maga now for about 3 years now at Krav Maga Renton. They've really honed my skills as a previous martial arts practitioner in TKD and boxing. The best thing about Krav Maga is the fact that they drill very effective techniques that anyone can learn with a system that can also be modified if you're limited in athletic ability. This is for someone who wants to have that fighting chance when shit hits the fan and at that point it's not about winning the fight but surviving to live another day. I have taken different combative classes with the army, police academy and on my own, and this is, by far, the best martial arts experience I have ever had. I decided last year that I wanted to do something that would help keep my physically fit while also building the skills to make sure I go home alive every night. The first class was one of the most intense hours of my life and had a hard time making it all the way through the class. A couple weeks later, I was coming 3-5 days a week and able to make it through the class. Last month, I tested to go from level one to two. This test was, by far, the hardest workout I have EVER had, including all of my time in the Army. I passed! This isn't one of those places that if you pay to test you automatically get your next belt; you must show that you are ready, that you deserve it, and that you will be an asset to the next level. MC is an amazing instructor. He is incredibly knowledgeable, skilled and is able to work with everyone regardless of their skill level. He knew my name after the first day. Most importantly, he shows that he sincerely cares for the well-being of his students and trains them to have a survival attitude. People travel to Renton from as far away as Tacoma/Puyallup area (that i know about). That says something as to the quality of Dojo3/Krav Maga Renton. This gym helped change my life. Great instruction, close family like atmosphere, several programs for different fitness needs. If you are looking to get in stupid good shape and be able to defend yourself after your first class this is the place to train. I started a little over a year ago and couldnt run more than 100 yards with out feeling sick @ 248 lbs, ive since dropped 40+ lbs and can run for miles and miles. Shortly after our wedding, my wife and I agreed to start training in martial arts together. I became aware of Krav through a friend, and found this Krav studio. I showed my wife a Krav demo video, and she was sold on the idea of trying it. We took a free class, and signed up for a year membership soon thereafter. It's been the best thing we could've done for ourselves. Review: This is going to be long, so I'm going to break it down into subheadings. Training - Krav Maga Renton takes training very seriously, primarily because they want to make sure people are learning what they need to survive in adverse situations, but also because they want to make the training experience safe for everyone. We train hard and are pushed well beyond our perceived limits, but in ways that inspire and motivate us. The first few weeks will hurt, but it'll quickly pass and you'll want to do more. Facility - As far as dojos go, there's a lot of space to train. When classes are full, the instructors modify the class to keep everyone safe, yet still execute on their lesson goals. Instructors - Amazing instructors. Each of them are trained on how to properly teach Krav and manage a classroom. There are around five or six instructors, and each of them are very supportive and knowledgable. Schedule - Very accommodating times available. Despite our busy schedules, my wife and I were able to attend evening classes three or four times a week. Diversity - The instructors and students collectively make up a diverse group of individuals. It's almost like walking into the UN. You'll feel right at home, regardless of your ethnic background, gender, fitness level, age, etc. Attitude - Everyone is supportive. At first glance, lessons look very aggressive and even dangerous. Yes, we train hard, but no one is ever "alpha" about it. We support each other and express concern and take action when someone is looking too fatigued to continue. Those who have been around for longer than six months start to develop personal bonds and friendships with their classmates. We all have a lot of respect for each other. Cost - Depending on how much you're willing to practice, the monthly dues for a year membership could easy make a per class cost less than $10/class. My wife and I got so addicted to Krav Maga Renton that our per class was easily around $5. I wouldn't even think of paying for a gym membership, this is all the fitness I need. read more
