The class starts off with doing a warm up followed by a mix of cardio and strength training. Such exercises you will be subjected to doing are jumping jacks, a variety of push ups, high knees, TRX work, jump squats, kettlebells and dumb bells. The last bit of class was held outside where we did duck & crab walks, and sprints. I really enjoy the variety of exercises and felt super accomplished after class. Jason, the instructor, is great. He's got a great sense of humor and is very encouraging throughout the session. The gym is out of the way for me, but it is worth the commute. This location is really convenient on the island and there's plenty of street and garage parking. The venue itself is much bigger than the other locations I've visited and you had much more space in between the machines. The front desk staff and coach really spend time helping the students in the class. I have bad knees and wanted to book the bike because the last class I had irritated my knees on the treadmill. They helped me get everything ready for the class and discussed how I can request the bike in future classes. I love how they have classes from 5am all the way until 8pm. This makes it easy for people like me who have days where I can sneak in a quick before the sun workout, or others where I need a late evening option. I have decided to make this my home studio even though I no longer live on the island. Their class schedules work great for me and the friendly staff really sealed the deal!

I was surprised to see there wasn't a yelp location for Technique, but couldn't help but add one since this Studio is my favorite on Mercer Island. They offer pilates (group classes and personal training) as well as barre classes. Personally I have tried both types of group classes and have enjoyed a challenging, but fun workout experience. If you are debating I would suggest going for it - they even offer the first class for FREE. All the instructors are great and will customize even the class workouts to what your body can do/needs and the upbeat music and energy really holds you accountable so you aren't slacking (like I do when I try to workout from home and end up taking breaks or sitting down). The studio itself is located in a cute shopping center area with parking spaces in front that are usually available. Parking is free and pretty easy as well. For classes I would recommend checking out their website and booking online to make sure you have a space. Definitely a great place to workout at any starting level of fitness, highly recommend!!! Also, shout out to sheena who is my fav friday workout!

I had also decided that I needed to change my lifestyle if I want to have any chance of being healthy and mobile for the next 20-30 years, and finding a personal trainer was at the top of my list. I did not feel confident just going to the gym and trying to figure stuff out on my own. Alina is an awesome trainer. She completely understood where I was coming from, what my goals and fears were and was able to suggest adaptation to exercises and some new equipment that I had never even heard about. She is an educated, knowledgeable and experienced trainer and an awesome person all around. I really appreciated that she was able to explain what we were doing and why, short term and long term. I was impressed by how well she was able to judge my abilities (she was better at it than me!) and how attentive she was during our training. I could relax and exercise without any anxiety. I have to say that it was really impressive how she was able to give me just the right amount and type of encouragement and support I needed. All of these things led me to enjoy my gym time even more. It's been over a year now, and my results are great! I am so much stronger and capable now, with better stamina, and have more self confidence. I am seeing some body recomposition happening and I couldn't be happier. My mental health has improved a lot and now going to the gym is the highlight of my week. I'm pretty sure I gained a friend in Alina, along with all those other things, which is beyond awesome. I was incredibly lucky to have found Alina when I had. I'm very sorry to see her leave this area, but I am confident that she gave me a solid foundation for my fitness journey, and that I will be able to continue to build on it throughout the years. I wish her all the best in the new chapter of her life.

I especially appreciate her emphasis on controlled, full-range movement--perfect for someone like me whose top goal is to stay strong as I age and avoid injury. If you're looking for purpose in your training, not just checking the box of "working out"--Alina's the one.
