Located just steps from the Pantheon in Piazza della Rotonda, this historic coffee bar has been a Roman institution since 1946 and is especially known for its coffee, which has helped make it one of the city's most famous cafés. The line was pretty long when we arrived, but it moved surprisingly quickly. You can enjoy your coffee and pastries inside while standing at the counter, or, if you're lucky, grab one of the few seats available inside. There's also outdoor seating, but keep in mind that sitting outside comes with a separate--and if I remember correctly, significantly higher--service charge. I'll be honest--I'm pretty sure I ordered the wrong thing. I ended up with what was essentially a frosty coffee ice cream, which is not what I was going for, lol. I was supposed to order the Granita di caffè con panna, which is their signature. It's a coffee granita--essentially finely shaved/frozen coffee--topped with whipped cream. Instead of whipped cream, I accidentally told my Italian nephew I wanted the coffee with ice cream, whoops. I also ordered a maritozzo, which I was absolutely on a mission to try while in Rome. The maritozzo is a traditional Roman sweet bun filled generously with whipped cream, and it did not disappoint. I was in a bit of a rush, so I didn't have time to enjoy my maritozzo there. I packed it up and ate it later that evening, and it was still delicious. I've also essentially given up coffee completely, so I only had a few bites and sips of my coffee ice cream, but what I tried was really good. The menu is fairly large and varied, and it can feel a little overwhelming when you're standing at the counter with a line behind you. I'd recommend taking a look at the menu ahead of time if you can so you have an idea of what you want before you get up to order. Overall, I'd definitely recommend stopping by. Tazza d'Oro is an institution, the location is hard to beat, and there's something fun about experiencing one of Rome's longtime coffee traditions--even if you accidentally order the wrong thing like I did!

Famous for their coffee, I ordered a black tea with lemon and a pistachio cake. Table service is available inside and out. Be aware if you sit outside others may be smoking. There are two tables to sit and a few 'standing room' tables made from snow board on side walk. I received a loose black tea in a reusable tea bag, a lemon (as requested), a cup of hot water and spoon. This tea is light and floral and very much complimented the acidic lemon. Excellent cuppa. That pistachio cake is delicious. The outside crust is toothsome while the inside is soft, moist and sweet. A really welcome mid-morning respite. Service was excellent. Staff speak English. On street parking if you can find it. If in need of a caffeine break, looking for a baked good or lunch time meal I think you'll be satisfied at any of the Caffe Marziali 1922 locations. The only objection is to what seemed to be a lack of process and apparent chaos as it was difficult to determine where to order, who to talk to , who was the cashier and who made the food etc..., it drove me impatient but they came through, sat us down and served us a good pizza romano, freshly juiced assortment of fruits. I will probably not go back as there is so much to discover in Rome but I would encourage you to visit as they push out good food.

Cappuccino and pastries were really good, the staff was always friendly and willing to work with my mix of languages when ordering food. It is usually busy in the morning and nights, which I think is a good sign. We stopped here as soon as we arrived Rome because we were very hungry and had pizza. After trying other places, food in the evening is okay, but not the best. We stopped one more time another evening and ordered a selection of the small plates they have for dinner, again, it was okay--not too good, not too bad. I have to confess that I miss getting there every morning and see friendly faces, ordering my coffee and experiencing a little bit of what lively mornings looks like in this neighborhood.

It had custard cream in it and no coffee taste, this wasn't a tiramisu! If you're out of tiramisu, just tell me, but don't try to cheat the customer.
