I am someone who rarely places a review, and only when absolutely necessary. I will never ever forget the kindness and empathy that I received when my keys were missing, and my landlord refused to let me in. The technician came within about an hour, and stood with me through my panic, my sobs, my fear, all of it. He kept saying "I want to help you. Let me help you." He never once left my side or got frustrated. As a grad student relying on family income, I worry more about my father's response and his anger to the money, than the situation. Once my family could agree on a price, this tech got right to work, and worked nonstop until I was in my apartment again. Only ever asked for a water through it all. It's been about week and I can't stop thinking about how kind he was and how if I was ever in trouble again, I'd only trust this company. I am going to try to word this in the nicest way, but they are not upfront over the phone about pricing and seem to have misunderstood what an estimate is supposed to mean. I had to have new car keys printed for my ford focus after misplacing mine. I specifically gave them the make, model, and year of my car which should have been more than enough to give me an estimate that was somewhat in the ballpark of what I could expect to pay. Instead, I am told that the price was 125 starting. I should've known this was a red flag but, given the starting price I thought to myself "ok maybe 400 max". Nope, the guy gets there and boom, tells me in-person that it was 1,200 dollars. Yes, you heard correctly; the price of a small studio apartment. I honestly felt cornered and am not great with conflict and felt like I had no other options and caved. Yes, I was mad at myself for not speaking up, but I shouldn't have even been put in this position to begin with. The dude then proceeds to explain why he has to program and why he has to do XYZ. I don't care, that's not the point.... Had I been given accurate pricing over the phone I would have 100% gone elsewhere and figured something else out. I was deprived of that option. I'm not swimming in cash, and this has been hard to recover from. Funny enough, I called my Ford dealership later on. They had zero problem giving me a real estimate over the phone...even if it was high. That's all I wanted...full transparency to make an informed/non-pressurized decision. Though I wouldn't go as far as to call them "scammers" there are certainly not ethical and knew what they were doing by withholding such information till the last second. When I called 101 Locksmith they quoted me a $30.00 call out fee. Their technician told me my door lock was broken and had a replacement which he installed without giving me a price. After installing he told me it would be $800.00 . . I told the guy straight away I didn't 't want the lock and to refund me but he refused and left my house. IT GETS WORSE! I take the my lock he had left in my wastepaper basket the very next morning to a locksmith called Emerson's in West Hollywood. I was told someone could be here in 20 minutes for a free estimate. In about 15 minutes we had Rafi here and he was able to get our door open within 10 minutes! Not only was he amazingly helpful, their fees were the best in the area (I had called around prior to landing on 101 Locksmith). Do not use this company!!! Their phone number goes to a call center and they send out "contractors" said the young man, Ben, who showed up. I only needed 1lock to be picked because we had no key for the lock and I was locked out. The deadbolt worked fine. As he was finishing picking the lock I stepped away and then he tells me the deadbolt was not engaging and it would not open so he had to drill it out. I asked him how much it would be to do the additional work and he said he wasn't sure his boss would calculate when he was done. At the time I believed him, but when he handed me a bill for almost $2000 I realized not only was I scammed, but he did something to the deadbolt to make it a bigger job. I could have replaced the entire door and locks for what he charged. I work with locksmiths frequently and I know that it should have been about 500 and told him that is what I would pay. He laughed at me said no, and literally would not leave until he got his money. This 6 ft young man towering over me refusing to leave. He calls "the boss" supposedly named Sean, and they speak in their language so I cannot understand, boss says he'll give me a 25% discount. Still outrageous. Back and forth....I needed to leave so I finally agreed to 1100. The kid who came had an invoice that says 24/7 Locksmith, not the company I called and there is no phone number on the invoice. Had lockout Wednesday morning at 8. I called for an appointment on Monday(two days before). Not an emergency or anything. I did ask how much the charge was for a lockout. Guy on the phone (no name) said it was 45 for service charge and the rest depended on what services we needed, which is pretty typical. They sounded experienced and had good reviews so I didn't think too much of it. Wednesday morning, the technician showed up on time at 7:53. He picked a deadbolt and a knob. Charged 450 to pick the two locks. Then, he charged me 165 each for the MATERIALS to replace them(330 total, typical price should be about $30 for the set). Then an additional 90 for labor to install the 10x marked up knob and deadbolt. Labor to remove the old locks and screw on the new ones is about 5 mins. Add on a 45 dollar service charge. I won't knock this one. Guy left at 8:50. Total working time about 1 hour. 450+(165x2)+90+45 +31 tax Total = 946 They take Venmo, and Venmo charges for credit card transactions so...$974.38 total charge. As someone who has done over 200 lockouts, this is about 3 times the price of the most expensive lockout I've ever had. And that was for 8 locks rekeyed with 4 picked and 2 hours of waiting around for sheriff. Attached the invoice as proof. YMMV. ---------- Edit: After posting the above review, Leo the technician contacted me to ask me to remove my review. He explained that the locks he used were the best grade American made locks that costs $300 a set. He claimed they were from Bold Lock Supply. I told him I've seen about every lock from every company in the States. Never heard of Bold. He told me to google it. Also sent me the site. Sure enough, boldlocksupply.com is indeed a website that purports to sell locks for exorbitant prices. The problem is that there is no other retailers that carry these locks. No reviews or product announcements. There is a grand total of ONE website that has anything to do with these locks, the shiny boilerplate BigCommerce website with stock photos and ridiculous prices. (Screenshots are attached) The brand has no social media presence at all. They even claim to sell generic universal mailbox locks for 89 bucks(examining the photo, key says it's made by Penn, which means it's a $10 lock, see pictures). And a cylinder will cost you $379(the most expensive residential cylinder I've ever seen was roughly $60 bucks. Even a new Medeco cylinder is only about $100) And you can't check out after you add things to cart. (Please don't try. Even if they get the site to work, the locks are still crap. For the price you can get real Abloy locks and have a nice dinner for a family of 4 with the change.) I checked with several other locksmiths, no recognition of this brand. So in short, the locks are still overpriced crap, the website is also crap, probably a scam. The service was fine. The price is not. Note: I am a property manager with 100+ units under my own management as well as a general contractor with 13 years of experience. Fast and efficient at a reasonable price. Dumb me, lost the key to my Jeep with no spare. Completely my fault. I usually have a spare key to my vehicles but never got around to getting a spare. Now I've lost the only key and near closing time for the dealerships in the area. I made a couple of calls to two local dealerships. They quoted $175 for the key/fob and $225 for the programming, plus I would have to tow the vehicle to them tomorrow. I assumed I would be stuck doing this tomorrow but I did a search for locksmiths and see if any of them could do this out in the field tonight. Made a couple of calls to two other locksmiths but I didn't feel reassured they had the capability of completing the task. I Came across 101 online. They answered on the first ring, she asked about my vehicle and where it was located. Gave her the information and she said a tech would call me in a few minutes to give a quote. The tech , David called within 10 minutes, confirmed the information but he said he could not give a quote until he got there to see the vehicle and confirm all the specs for the key/fob. I agreed and he said he was finishing up with a customer and he would be able to arrive in 30 minutes. David showed up faster then that , It was at my place of business , so I had not arrived yet but he called and I directed him to the vehicle. David was able to check all the information on the Jeep , So when I arrived, he had the Key/fob in hand and gave me a price of $365 + tax. This was a better price then the dealership and it would be done right now. No brainer...lets do it. David had the programming and key cut within 10 minutes. He asked me to check to make sure it was working correctly. It was working perfectly. TLDR - ~$900 to pick 2 locks on the same door is a bit outrageous We had to call 101 Locksmith due to an emergency. They were fast and the technician was very respectful. However, the price was 2-3x what this service would normally be even considering the emergency nature. They quoted me $210 per lock plus a service fee. They said it would be an additional $210 if they had to use a different tool. They never explained what the additional tool was. The technician attempted to pick each lock for a few minutes before giving up and using a bump key. Pretty basic lock picking so we expected to see a bill no larger than $500. I understand that this was a late call with a quick turn around. However, we were shocked to get a $900 bill for using a bump key, which is extremely basic lock picking. Honestly, the service was fine. It's just unfortunate that the pricing is so extreme and misleading. I would not recommend or use this company again. read more

Honestly I don't like to give a bad review, but i feel that I have to , I hired the services of 101 locksmith on 11/02/23. The problem was that the kitchen sliding door wouldn't lock but could slide easily and open, and the dining room door also wouldn't lock and was hard to open. After getting it evaluated they told me to get it fixed they would charge $785, which I agreed to. However, they left the dining room door still being difficult to close, and the kitchen door in worse condition. I (a full grown woman) and my bosses two daughters are not able to open the door at all. Despite all of this we were still charged $785. I hired them thinking that my problem would be solved, but it is worse now! I definitely don't recommend them and I wouldn't hire them again. As a veteran and advocate of women-owned businesses, I was impressed buy the notice that this business was both women-owned and veteran-owned. However, I have to question that claim. When I called, the man I spoke to refused to confirm either claim. They were responsive and sent a technician out asap. The technician called and gave me an eta of 15-20 minutes. He came after about 30-minutes. He was friendly and fast. However, the price he charged me was highway robbery because 'it's an emergency'. The company called after and when I told them what he charged, they offered to give me 25% off the next time I called.
