Highly recommend checking this one out. It seems to be the least populated of the 10 acre restaurants (I assume because the lack of patio) but the food was absolutely delicious and our service was exceptional. Stopped in for a beer and had the "Bistro Fried Chicken". My Sweetie had "Quinoa balls". Both had a little spice and were very tasty. The chicken was moist and tender. A good selection of local beers. I had the Alpha Acid IPA. Not as hoppy as some but a reasonable abv unlike the ever popular Fat Tug which is also on tap. A lot can be chalked up to bad luck, but when the staff can tell you're not enjoying your meal and they make no attempt to resolve the situation, that tells you what you need to know. On the plus side, the seafood tortellini was very tasty and we eventually ended up with a nice Okanagan white wine. On the minus side: - The restaurant is not as vegetarian friendly as the website would make you think. Several veg options listed on the site weren't available and no alternatives were offered. Even the panzanella (bread) salad had gelatin in the tomato consomme. This left my wife looking at seafood options that she wasn't really enthusiastic about, but it's what they had that she could eat. - We're wine geeks, we were excited they had a sommelier on staff and a big "10 acres cellar" filled with hundreds of bottles. They had an Okanagan sparkling wine by the glass that we ordered...then they came back and said they were sold out. "Is there another OK sparkler we can do instead?" No. They had them, just not by the glass. He could have opened a bottle, heck, we'd probably have bought the whole bottle, but instead he just pushed a wine that my wife categorically stated she didn't want. Finally they settled on a white wine which was very nice...though no one ever offered her a second glass. - Very slow service. An hour after we sat down, our main course still hadn't come up. My wife sat nursing a glass of wine trying to make it last until the food came (since there was no offer of a second glass). - I ordered the Halibut fish & chips and the fries had evidently been sitting for some time, because while the fish was very hot, the fries were cold and lifeless. I should have asked to have it re-done, but by then we had been sitting there for 75 minutes and I didn't feel like waiting however long it would take to come up again. Not that the waiter came back to ask. I picked at it. It was fine-ish. - When someone did come back to take our plates away (our waiter having moved on to disappointing other guests), I wasn't asked why half my food was sitting there, nor asked if I wanted it boxed to go. They knew it didn't go well, but no effort was made to address it. They even asked if it was a special occasion -- and it was, my wife's birthday. Love this place! We celebrated our one year anniversary dinner here and we were both impressed! The space itself is nice with it's various paintings and oversized ceiling fans for decorative effect. However, our server mentioned they were going to do some remodeling in the next few weeks so the space will look differently. Note most of their food is locally sourced from their farm and if it's not they do their best to source local ingredients. That being said, husband and I both appreciated this and this made their food even more delicious. We ordered appetizers, main course and dessert. Appetizers - *Crab Cakes - This was good, but I thought there was too much breading. The crab was nice and fresh though. Plus the sauce it came with was delicious. Really added more flavor to the crab cake. *Truffle fries - Love truffles so adding them to fries is always a great idea. Main Courses - *House made fettucine with hazelnuts, egg, pesto and cheese. - This was delicious and with generous amounts of hazelnut. The egg came in the middle, I mixed it together to make a pasta egg goodness. Loved this! Now in order to appreciate this you do need to like hazelnut as it come with a good amount of them. *Salmon - husband ordered this and he enjoyed it, but this dish came with leeks and he thought there were too many. He's not a big leek fan, but if you are then this won't be a problem for you. I had a bite and the fish was nicely cooked and flavorful. Dessert - *House made raspberry sorbet - I love raspberry so I enjoyed this, a bit tart and sweet. *Chocolate ganache - This had a delicious sauce with it and also the honeycomb was a nice touch. Service was good. Our server was new but very helpful. We enjoyed our meal here and would come back if we find ourselves back in Victoria. read more

I'm not sure if this place is called Pescatores or The Commons, but I just know that it was way over priced. The cool thing about it is you get a view of the Empress Hotel but it was so expensive for what we got. Half a cup of clam chowder soup for ten dollars is just unreasonable.. The service was okay but I wouldn't come here again or recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Victoria. I'm sure you can get a much better deal somewhere else and actually be satisfied at the end of your meal. read more

This restaurant has a menu chock full of humanely and locally sourced proteins and produce. This not only has moral appeal but it also makes everything taste utterly delicious. The inside has a cool vibe but the outdoor patio is the place to sit with overstuffed comfy couches and individual fire features at each table. First things first. I booked this spot based on Yelp saying that it has outdoor seating. It does not. The adjacent 10 Acres Commons does, so go there if you want to sit outside. That said, I have no other complaints about the restaurant. The food was excellent, as was the service. I've seen some complaints on Yelp about this place being overpriced, but I have to assume those meant to refer to the Commons. My wife and I had wine, two delicious meals, an appetizer and desert for less than $200 CA. My Beef en Croute was perfectly cooked and the service was immaculate and attentive. My only possible complaint is that the wine list is a bit short, though the sommelier was helpful and knowledgeable. read more

Our party of 6 had a very disappointing experience at 10 Acres Kitchen. We arrived on time for a 6:30pm reservation and were promptly seated. The decor was lovely and the atmosphere appealing. Then it all went downhill. The waitstaff were, from the outset, surly and snooty. The service was very slow. It took an hour and half from the time we were seated until we received our entrees. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered the burger and requested it be cooked medium well. When it finally arrived it was *very* well done--like a hockey puck. Another in our party ordered a steak medium rare and instead it arrived medium well. My wife ordered the salmon and it arrived cold. The rest of our party's meals were not as badly done as these three, but were still just "meh". Certainly not worth the price. Also, the coffee was absolutely horrible--bitter and reminiscent of what you might find at a truck stop in the middle of nowhere at 2am. When we voiced our concerns about the entrees to our waitress (who said she was also a manager) she responded in a very condescending and defensive manner. So what would have been a very underwhelming dining experience was made into a very negative experience for our entire party--due to the excessively slow service, the poorly prepared food, and the crappy attitude of the waitstaff. Perhaps saddest of all was that this meal was for a special occasion, which was marred by the terrible experience we had. As we left, we overheard another group of diners at another table discussing their unhappiness with their meals and with the slow service. None of us will ever dine here again. read more

Walked in super late at 10 PM and although there was only one other table seated, they were willing to serve us, which was fantastic. The restaurant layout and decor was excellent, and matched the style of the food. I had the linguine which had tons of fresh seafood in it. Truly one of the best seafood pastas Ive had - normally they are too greasy and oily, but this was excellent. The sauce was filling but wasnt too heavy as to mask the flavor of the fresh seafood. The only thing I wished for was more greens on the plate to keep it even more fresh, and add different flavors to compliment the seafood. Overall, fantastic! Worst service ever. Waited 20 min for a half dozen of oysters and by an hour, our main entrees hadn't arrived yet. Waiter didn't seem to know anything about waiting on a table and would ask our table how everything is going when we hadn't even received any food! How am I supposed to respond to that?! Ended up asking them to cancel our orders and we left. What made everything worse is that the waiter put our order with our other family group, forcing a 20% tip due to party size greater than 6 EVEN THOUGH, we requested from the beginning for separate checks since we sat at different tables. Worst in my life. No idea how the food was...we were never really waited on. We were seated (at dirty place settings at the raw bar) and waited 15 minutes for a waiter to approach. We ordered drinks from a waiter named Ivan who seemed put upon. still no bussing of area. Drinks plunked down in front of us 15 minutes later - still no bussing of area. Waiter mumbled as he walked away - that was the last we saw of him until we gave up on this place 40 minutes later. We got up to leave and pay for our drinks (in retrospect we should have just left as we were mad later that we had paid to be treated so poorly) and he came running over with excuses and apologies (and the check). I did let the woman managing know about the incomparable rudeness of the waiter and the ridiculous experience - she was nonplussed. Clearly this was no surprise to her. I feel compelled to write this review (and others) to perhaps save fellow diners from this fate. P.S. Unless he owns the place that waiter should be let go...just a suggestion. read more

I went with friends and was not overly impressed. We showed up on a Friday, a day when the specials were chicken wings and sangria. So we ordered chicken wings and sangria - but then the bill came they charged full price. We didn't see the sign on the menu that special prices are only during a two hour period. This kind of rankled my feathers even though it may seem like a small thing to some. I will say the oysters were fresh, and came with a good option of sides, and the waiter was knowledgeable. This was our 2nd visit to this restaurant. They've remodeled the whole place and did a superb job. Waitstaff were all excellent and very knowledgeable about all the offerings. We made reservations on OpenTable at 10 Acres Kitchen. 10 acres is split into 3 areas all with separate entrances (bistro, kitchen, commons) and it was a little confusing. We ended up walking through the wrong entrance and had to go around. We had the 5 course tasting menu and everything was excellent! We were so full that we could barely finish. Another fantastic dinner at the 10 Acres Kitchen! 8 of us for dinner - no problem. We have always had great food here but this time the service stood out too. Our waiter Jim(Jimmy) was pretty amazing - this guy has so much personality it was overflowing. Our sommelier brought us some great wines including a Desert Ridge Cab Franc by Cedar Creek which was very unique. The food around the table was exceptional. We had a few dozen oysters to get things started. jimmy recommended several people hit the chops. I had the Toast and the Beef en Croute. Everyone was overwhelmed with the food. It was all terrific! Thrown in some desserts and French Press coffee and we were able to call it another great dinner at the Kitchen. Jimmy was the man though. Said he had only been there a few weeks but this guy was a star. He turned it from being a meal at a great restaurant to being an experience we'll remember next time we get together again - we'll be back at the 10 Acres Kitchen again. We had fun, ate too much, drank great wines and martinis, laughed and loved everything. Service was spectacular. With no less than 4 people constantly handling our table but never interrupting, we were well taken care of. Love this place. Loved the food. Loved that much of it was local from the 10 acres farm. Also, the ceviche had a bunch of small bay shrimp and maybe three prawns. Taste was good! Service was friendly. Good thing the exchange rate was in our favor. We had an amazing meal at 10 Acres Kitchen. From the minute we walked in the staff was incredible friendly and charming. We had a very comfortable table for 2. The decor is hip and the use of lots of fabrics keeps the noise level down. It was a Monday, and we are late eaters, so it wasn't super busy. We ordered the Tomato Panzanella and the melons with prosciutto as starters. Both great and all the ingredients were very fresh. For our main courses we had the Carbonara and the Halibut. Again, the food was amazing and presentation was perfection. What made the evening perfect, was the fact that we let the sommelier pair wines with each course. He was spot on and the wines enhanced the food perfectly. Our favorite was a sparkling wine from Haywire, a nice winery in the Okanaga. We had a nice cheesecake for dessert and the restaurant comped us a nice glass of dessert wine. We will rush back to 10 Acres Kitchen on our next trip to Victoria. The service was quite snooty. The food I ordered the halibut for 40$ I think I got about 2 oz and a tablespoon of potatoes. Was absolutely ridicules for the price. Wife ordered the "wild" salmon. They served farm and then lied about it. We are not tourists and we know our salmon very well. It was disgusting and she couldn't eat it. I tried a piece and it was horrible and soft like it was almost rotten. But of course we were charged for it anyway. I visited 10 Acres Kitchen on April 10, 2018 with my family. The server, Amelia, was very good. However, something happened from the farm to the table experience. I have dined at farm to table restaurants before and the food portions were significantly better. It seemed the food came from a teenie tiny acre farm. Plus, we were the only one's in the restaurant and it took a very, very long time for the food to be served. We went on Tuesday evening and only had about a 30 minute wait. Food was great! We all had seafood dishes except for one in our party. Everything was very fresh and well crafted. We finished our meal with coffee and dessert. The cultured Kombucha is one of the best Kombucha I have had. Extremely slow service, not to mention we could hardly find the host stand when we walked in the door. We stood around for at least 3 minutes before being greeted as kitchen staff whirled by (the host stand / door entrance is right by the kitchen entrance, not what you're expecting). After our server greeted us at the table he was gone for at least 10 minutes while we were waiting to order. After we got our appetizers/salad we sat for at least another 35 minutes waiting for our main courses...only to have them delivered after asking and telling them we had a time limit. My husband had the burger, which he said (& I saw) was way over done. Maybe it was sitting under a warming light too long?? Go here! The ambiance is just perfect for a very nice dinner out that isn't overly formal or stuffy. Perfect for a date or girls night out. They have lots of comfy booths, which I love. The service was mostly very good but too slow in bringing drinks. We had: Oysters - the more expensive of the two options they offer. They were literally my favorite oysters I have ever had, which I think is really saying something for someone from Seattle. Toast - they pile a bunch of seafood and avocado and such on top of a big piece of toast. It comes with gruyere but we left it off - I think it would have been really overpowering and just too much on top of everything else. The flavors were fantastic but it would have been so much better if it had been a few smaller pieces that were not piled so high and so difficult to eat, like bruschetta. Salmon - perfectly cooked and delightful. Served with puréed peas, which I think were just perfect. Orecchiette with mushrooms and goat cheese - this was truly spectacular. Absolutely amazing flavor. Duck with rutabaga gnocchi- meh. The gnocchi was almost good but just a little off I thought. The duck was fine but I had just made duck at home the night before and it was better. With all the amazing things to eat here, I would avoid this. Crepes with ricotta and apple - absolutely amazing. Completely different from any dessert I have ever had. I was blown away. Important note: there are three different 10 Acres restaurants. I think the website does a really bad job of explaining that and helping you figure out which is which. The green beans were a little too al dente but nonetheless, amazing. I stay away from the bread but couldn't resist the aroma. I think 3-stars is the fairest rating I can give this restaurant, all things considered. I would've given the food an (almost) 4 stars, but the service barely 2 stars. I came her during May long weekend, so it was busy. My party of 3 arrived shortly after 9pm, and were told we'd have a 30 minute wait. Not a problem at all. After 30 minutes, we came back and were seating almost immediately. A server came to ask for what we'd like as drinks, and we waited for a bit before receiving them. When our drinks came, we were not asked if we would like to order our food for over 30 minutes. During this time, we tried to get our server's (or anyone's) attention. Finally, another server came and said our server will be with us shortly. By this time, it was past 10:30pm and we were impatient. There were no longer many guests. Finally when our server came to take our order, we noted to her that we would like the food served as soon as possible, as one of us had to leave at 11pm. Our friend who had to leave got his main course quickly, and I got my appetizer, which was good. When he was done, my partner and I were given a dessert menu. We were confused. I promptly asked if the server knew we haven't even gotten our main courses yet. Apologetically, she said she didn't and went to check on our food. After another round of waving a server down to ask if our food is even cooking (or we would rather leave), we got a curt reply that it's on it's way. Not a great feeling as a customer when it's been almost 2 hours since you sat down. Alas, at 11:30pm, we had our main courses. Food wise, it was quite good. For starters, we got beef tartare - one of the better ones I've had! It was flavourful and well portioned. We got the duck breast, and beef wellington for our mains. The duck breast came with rhubarb puree and gnocchi. Cooked tenderly, the duck breast was juicy. I wasn't a huge fan of the gnocchi but that's just a personal note. The beef wellington stole the show - it was cooked perfectly, with and the puff pastry was as it should be. I really liked the hazelnuts and the asparagus with the dish. By the time we finished our mains, of course we weren't in a mood for dessert (but we did go get pizza after - portions are on the smaller size). As we got the bill, my partner explained to our server the poor service that we received that night, and she was apologetic. We recognize that it could've been an off-night (it was busy, later in the night), so we're OK with that. Not sure if we'd be back, but the place has a nice ambience if you're looking for somewhere more upscale. read more

No one came around to ask us how our food was tasting, we were only served 1 round of beverages without anyone asking if we wanted another which left us all with empty glasses siting in front of us 1/2 way through our meal, and to top it off the bus boy neglected to clear any of our plates for at least 15min after we were all finished eating. To make up for his tardiness he said "wow I've never seen anyone eat this fast". To imply 3 SENIORS and 3 adults ate faster than anyone he's ever seen was just a cop out for our whole table being neglected once again. In addition to this the sommelier came to our table explaining they were out of the bottle of wine we ordered which wasn't the case as we didn't order a bottle of wine and the waitress literally only came to our table twice. Once to take the order and once to take payment. On the other hand the food was quite tasty, but it was all lost on the horrible service and inflated prices. For $30-$40 an entree and $12 for desert you would expect a higher caliber of service to go along with the food. We are all local and dine out quite often and have to say we were hard pressed to think of an establishment where we received that poor of service in quite a while.
