I do not recommend this to my worst enemy. Heavy sales culture. I came in here for a $28 haircut. Left with a $78 bill for a men's short haircut. What I got was the lady washing my hair asking if I wanted to wash my face - not being from NYC I didn't realize this was a full face treatment she quoted at $188. I told them no then was consistently reminded about the acne on my face. She then offered a cheaper service at $80... I said can we just stop here and I'll pay what I owe. I receive face cream and that total came to be $20. Later after finally starting my haircut the stylist was very consistent about recommending a perm after I told him I already have a stylist that does it for me. My bill before tax + tip was 48, credit card fees + tax was $10 (20% fee) then for my service I told him I'd tip $20 which he thought was too little. read more

We came in during a busy afternoon. It was a short wait as we were quickly ushered to a chair when there was an opening and given a book to pick a style. It took about 30-45 minutes to finish. My mom didn't get a wash but since her hair was frizzy, they straightened her hair and proceeded to cut her hair to a shoulder length cut. My aunt got a short styled cut and a wash. Both hair cuts cost $28 each. My mom and aunt were satisfied and will definitely come again. Keep in mind that you should bring in a style you want. I insisted that if it take a week to cure, i can not it do right now, they said it will take just 3 days. Which I later found out it takes more than a week, even two weeks. Which I have other things planned within this timeframe in which I will sweat and possibly infect the wound. Couple days prior, I asked for a mini curl, I showed the man a picture, he said he got it with confidence, but it turned out nothing like the way I wanted it. The man cutting my hair kept pressuring me to do one of their services. After repeated saying no, he got mad for some reason and went on to personally insulting me. Haircut was horrible and the ends were uneven. Horrible customer service. All they want is your money, which is the goal of any business, but at least treat your customers with some respect. I came in and requested a Korean curtain bangs with a shortish hair length haircut. When I showed the male hairdresser a photo, he said ok and was pretty confident, so I assumed he already knew how to cut it. I showed him it again after he washed mg hair too. When it was done, it looked nothing like the photo. It was most similar to a lob if anything. After coming here a few times, their customer service has really gone down the drain. I been back a few times just for a regular dye (brown hair) and they always seem like they don't want to do my hair because it's not expensive enough and give off a bad aura that just makes you feel uncomfortable. The owner of the shop doesn't smile at you or greet you when you walk in, unless he's personally working on you then he will converse with you. Other than that, nope. I won't be coming back. I got my hair cut by Peter. Costed $28. Peter is my mom's go to stylist for years. So if i ask her for recommendations, she will always recommend him. Ive got my haircut 3 time in the last 6 years. (Back then they are still in Chinatown). The price is a bit on the more expensive side, considering you can get your hair cut in Chinatown and 8th ave for $10-$15. But ive paid more for much less. Peter does take a while cutting hair. To me it means he isnt rushing to get you out and move on to the next customer (and there are people waiting). So expect to spend 1-2hrs for just haircut. The hair style last that way though even as it grows out, it still looks good. This is from experience since as i said, i have had haircuts from him before and i usually have a year between each haircut. The lady that wash my hair was very nice. I like getting my hair washed and she took her time probably around 10 - 15 mins washing and massaging my head. She doesn't chat up a storm which is nice, just focus on washing my hair. The negative is that the cleanest level can be better. Its a new location but looks pretty worn already, which is most likely from whatever that was previously there that didn't get renovated. The bathroom doesn't even have soap (that is a big problem for me since that means non of the workers are washing their hands with soap... Thank god they aren't in food service), the massage and waxing room doesn't have a door and its entrance directly fave the door to the salon so its in plain view... In all my life i have never left a salon so proud of my haircut. I had Belinda who i think is the manager. She was able to pinpoint difficulties i have had styling my hair just by judging the texture, which is something no other barbers have been able to do. I originally had came in to get a trim, but I knew that i could trust her to give me a great haircut. The change was big but i loved it. Overall I was really satisfied with my hair and if I ever come back to NY i would definitely visit this place again! read more

I came here several times to cut my hair by Peter. I came in once again on 9/10 to dye my hair and Peter advised me to bleach my hair so the color would stand out better, I trusted him. However, when one of the Fujianese lady started to bleach my hair, that lady was combing my hair very roughly and she was literally pulling it out by force, so I asked her to be more gentle and she thought I don't understand Chinese, she said to a helper next to her: "Whatever, I don't care, she want to look nice,but got so much to say", she's saying this in front of me. Then she started being rough again, so I requested her to stop and asked the girl next to her to call Peter, when that lady was on her way to call Peter over for me, the lady who was bleaching my hair not only didn't stop, she said "just leave it, don't call Peter, but that lady still went to get Peter for me. This is my worst experience ever to start a day like this. After I bleached and dyed my hair, I went back to the salon for my hair treatment on 9/12, and when this woman in WHITE T-SHIRT realized that it was me, she rolled her eyes at me again. Never in my life would I come here, I really enjoying peters cutting skill, but now because of this woman, I will never come here again. While trying to talk to my mother and decide what kind of style she would get, the lady speaks over us to a girl next to us and they both look at us and then point to say I don't know what. My aunt came here to get her haircut. She was serviced promptly, but this is very typical for 8 ave. She had a wash and cut for a total of $23. Now for anyone from other parts of NYC, this would be a complete steal, but definitely not in this area when haircuts range from $5-$15. The price would not have been an issued if my aunt came out with a fantastic cut, except she didn't. Her haircut was mediocre at best and it took forever. The place did not look too sanitary even though it was obviously new. They have a little room in the back for facials and tattoos?, but this room didn't have any doors so you can see the person laying down which was weird. They also do not take card which is very typical of this neighborhood. They also provide wifi which is nice if you have to wait around for people. Bottom Line: All in all it was a mediocre experience but for the price I probably would not visit again. read more

I've been here twice, and the two times I've been here were very good. It was the same barber who cut my hair both times. For the first time, I wasn't sure if he knew what I wanted or could follow my directions through, but in the end, both haircuts he gave me were nothing short of amazing. I liked the haircuts he's given so much that ever since that last cut I got here three months ago, I couldn't be sure of anyone else to touch my hair (which would only be confirmed when the cut I got in KTown recently was a disaster). Unfortunately, last month when I was thinking of coming again, I wasn't sure if that barber was still here. I lived too far away and was too busy to come by myself to check, so I tried calling them to find out. Since I didn't have his name, I tried asking them to send me photos to confirm that he still worked here. They weren't too receptive about this and never sent me anything to help me. Fortunately for me though, I finally found that barber. (I think he works in Chinatown now, at least I last saw him there. If he really does work there full-time now that would suck for 1 Plus 1 Salon!) Although they weren't too cooperative on the phone in helping me confirm my barber, I must say that the two times I had my hair cut here were quite positive and satisfying. This business does NOT even deserve one star! This place is absolutely careless, racist & extremely UNPROFESSIONAL. I always shop at the sweety/hello kitty shop next door to this place, & one day I needed a quick hair trim (clean & simple.) When I walked in, the vibe already felt a bit condescending. Then, two Chinese men (the main one in charge with the blonde hair/kinda chubby) & another younger barber seemed to be arguing over who wants to do my hair. I asked if there was an issue or "do you guys not want to provide me a service?" & they mockingly smiled and just said "no worries, no worries - he'll do it for you".. carrying on, I allowed the man to cut my hair & they were speaking Mandarin and laughing and seemed very rude (whatever they were saying, I'm sure it wasn't meant to compliment or comfort.) I then, stopped the barber and said "seriously, what is the problem? You're speaking in another language and seem to be insulting..?" & of course he lied and said "oh no we are just complimenting your eyes" - COMPLETE BULLSHIT. BIGGEST WASTE OF MY TIME. There's such a lack of respect in their culture & the way they made me feel, they don't even deserve business. They only care to make people of their own culture comfortable.
