This was our first time at #1 Buffet. The potstickers were good. They had salmon and other seafood out at 2:30, which was a nice surprise. Some places save those items for their dinner buffet. I was not impressed with the fried shrimp or egg rolls (both were chewy). If they tasted what they prepare, they might be able to improve a bit. My 3 year old enjoyed the pizza, fries and broccoli. The men's restroom needs a good cleaning, including the stall walls. Our waiter said maybe 2 words to us, and was silent when I handed him his tip. Theses are mostly small things that could easily be improved on, so I'm going to give an optimistic rating, and see if these items are improved the next time we visit. read more

Was introduced to this place by my friend, Oma, a few years ago and have been a bit hooked since. A decent amount of choices, good food, easy parking and an array of young, cute, Chinese girls. Okay, I went a bit far with that but I do like the place. Food has always been hot and of the more greasy variety which I happen to like. There's also Sushi as well although I have never tried it. For dinner it's a little over $14 if you get a drink with your meal. Lunch is slightly cheaper. The decor is nothing special but seems to be kept clean. Wish I could afford to eat here more often! Number one buffet, No way. If I have to really rate this buffet by comparing the others in LA, it probably deserve only two stars. Sashimi is suppose to be dry. They were sitting in a puddle of water. They were still being defrosted. The huge beef ribs are dry and tough. Crab legs are small and soft. I could not even break them in half. The meet is tasteless. There are good selection of Chinese dishes, but the quality is not that good. They are authentic Chinese food that meet the low requirement of the locals. The waiters remove the dirty plate quickly. The place looks clean. I was the only oriental customer. If I run this place, I would serve Chinese food catered to Hispanics. There is a Chinese buffet in Nogales on the US side that does a good job doing it. I remember they serve a spicy seafood soup that is very popular down there. If you are looking for really good Chinese buffet in the area, this is not the place. My family and I have been coming here for years since we moved into the area ~20 years ago. I just never wrote a review until now. As a kid, I loved this place, they have all types of food from different cultures, and they're quick to replace food items when they run out. But as I grew older, I learned of other restaurants and the quality of food that they serve in addition to the dangers of food sitting out for too long. During some visits, you have to watch out for food that has either gone cold or dried up. I don't think this location has a system for replacing food that has gone old. It seems they only replenish food once the tray has gone empty. But as they say, you get what you pay for. Their prices are on the lower side but the food quality shows. Oddly enough my recommendation is to visit during their peak hours. Reason being is that they have to keep replenishing their food often because of consumption. That means most likely you'll grab food that has been freshly prepared. If you go during their slower hours, you'll notice some food items sit out on the warmers for hours. I wanted to like this place. I mean, all you can eat sushi and crab legs for $10.99. But they didn't even have regular sushi, just the rice roll type. Which was puzzling, because the rolls actually did have good sushi in them, and they even put out sashimi, ie fish only. There were also bbq ribs, fried chicken, and Korean style ribs. So it wasn't like they were skimping on the ingredients. The same problem extended to the the crab legs, which were cold and over-salted for seemingly no reason. The rest of the buffet was straight "$1 Chinese food" quality, though some of the entrees like the chow mein resembled restaurant fare. I still hold out hope for this place. Like one of the reviewers said, "it is what you make it." You can still get your fill of sushi and seafood if you're willing to lower expectations. This is a hidden treasure in a neighborhood that is on the upswing. I love buffets and am always on the lookout for new targets for my meanderings. This is one of my faves. #1 Buffet is easy to miss but is well-worth searching for it. The decor is unimposing but recently, the restaurant has cleaned up the exterior of the building, put in a large new parking lot and added a few specialties to the buffet bar. The usual Asian & American offerings are here along with some unusual surprises. The sushi is fresh, varied and available even during lunch. Because the food is made in small batches, it is not overcooked, mushy or stale. Each day, several different dishes are added or changed so boredom doesn't set in, even for regular guests. The desert bar is average but the important main courses and side dishes are varied enough for almost all tastes and are well-prepared. Service is good and the waitstaff will quietly check your needs. Most buffets are not considered to be quality food providers but this one is fun and offers above average dishes. It's a typical cheap budget Asian buffet setup. There is such thing as great Asian buffet. This, however, is not the case. The food was lukewarm and not hot. There is some enticement with BBQ ribs and crab legs, but they fall flat and disappoint. The sushi is California rolls with the occasional tuna, salmon, and eel. The California roll looked the freshest, but it had an odd aftertaste. I thought there was some light at the end of the tunnel with some honey glazed shrimp, but it turned out to be an over-battered abomination akin to a heavily sugared donut filled with a small shrimp. Desserts consisted of fruit, cheap cookies, cheesecake and cream puffs left out too long, and soft serve. At least I knew the soft serve was in a controlled environment. Went here today hungry and wanted to check this place out. The price for lunch is reasonable low at 9 dollars. The food selection is vast and the taste is good enough. They have good desert choices and for the price it is well worth it. Although there are better place but for the price this can't be beaten. Now on the negative side. The place needs an upgrade already it is showing it's age. The carpet needs to be replaced as it is dirty as in yucky. The seat and table are clean enough but could use an update. The service is good. The waitress that served me was nice so I tipped her good. Not everyone was tipping by the way. It used to be one of my favorite Chinese buffet restaurant, I drove from Rosemead to Lawndale to have fried crabs at this restaurant, but they don't have it anymore instead of some new selections added to the menu which I do not like much. To me it not bad for the price, everything is above average except the Korean BBQ here is way too salty. Saw a lot of yelps about this and heard a lot from locals that it was good. I had a lunch buffet. I went early 11 to ensure it was as fresh as possible.Salad bar looks good, lots of variety, was not able to try it as I got nauseated. I don't think it was bad, just a bit greasy and hit me wrong way. Normally I like greasy, so not really sure what went wrong, but the kid wasn't thrilled either. They had orange chicken that was surprisingly very good, and a teriyak chicken that was good also. Most of the other things were just not that great. Some of them kinda yucky. After my stomach got upset I thought I'd do the sugar trick, sugar makes stomach empty quicker, therefore you start feeling better in 10-20 min. The ice cream they had was like a frozen milk. Not creamy, and too sweet. Nothing on desert section appealed to me. So then I thought maybe I'd try the Miso soup. Hot clear soups are good. I got that and sat down, but it didn't take like Miso at all. It had a weird flavor, almost fishy. Would have been good if it were like a fish ball soup, but this was supposed to be Miso. so that didn't go well. I just felt pissed after that and left. This what I don't like about buffets, I pay big money and end up with child's portion. Nobody does discounts for gastric bypass patients. At the most, some will give you senior citizen discount. Which is still a rip off. They also have a sign that they will charge extra if you waste food. They didn't charge me, but I think its BS. If the food was good, nobody would be wasting. Maybe if I went dinner I could have eaten crab legs. Son did like the sushi. He dearly loves sushi. Most of the times, buffet sushi isn't great. I think it was really a Korean pancake in witness protection programe (hiding out as EFY) BTW.. doesn't have anything to do with food, but this place is hideously ugly inside. The walls are a pukey sickly yellow. Nothing seemed to match. I don't brag to have fabulous design style, but even I could do better than this. They have a lot of seating, they could do a big group. This place is ok, its pretty good for the price I will admit. The food tasted somewhat good. I guess you get what you pay for. The sushi is nasty in my opinion, taste like that grocery store sushi. The rice and chowmein is pretty good here. The eat tasted mediocre here. Orange chicken is not bad. Chicken wings here are red which is kind of weird, they taste alright as well. Everything here is like between a 0 and 10 haha. The service is pretty fast, its not really packed here. The bill came out to about $27.90 for two people on a Wednesday night.
