This was a mixed bag, I am giving the higher starts due to X and Juan who were the ones to come and get the washer we needed removed. The gentleman on the phone was the issue. He was nice and answered all my questions, even some pricing questions which I see is a ongoing compliant in the reviews. He took the phone number of my wife as I would be working and that the washer was still hooked up as I wanted to make sure that was not an issue and it said it was not. Then he didn't give any of the information to the men who showed up, they called my number which I couldn't answer and had no idea they would have to disconnect the washer. You could tell X was annoyed but they handled it and got it all taken care of. It was purely do to them and that fact they got it done even with the issues in under my 15 minute break time was fantastic. I got a quote based on the junk I needed removed, and everything seemed straightforward at first. When the crew showed up, their truck already had junk in it. They tossed my stuff in loosely with zero effort to pack it efficiently, no stacking, no organizing, nothing. Then they had the nerve to charge me for a full load. Moving is very stressful. I was on a time crunch and did not get to check and make everything was removed. When I returned to the house latter there were items that should have been hauled away. 3 emails later and still no call to address this. This is horrible customer service and I will never use this service again! I think they are way overpriced and I wish I had more time to shop around. I needed a big dresser, a mattress, and some lithium barely picked up, along with a pile of other odds and ends. The estimate they gave me via text was around $400. And he told me they could give me a $150-$200 discount. So I went ahead and booked them. Mostly because I couldn't find anyone else who took mattresses. They gave me a pick up window of 9am-11am. When they didn't show I called and was told they tried to call and couldn't get ahold of me. (I never got a call.) So I verified my phone number and address and they got me back on the schedule for that afternoon. My new pick up window was 3pm-5pm. They ended up arriving around 7:30pm. Then they told me how much they were going to charge me. My total was over $1000. I guess the person I originally talked to failed to mention recycling fees. (So much for their "no hidden fees" claim they have on their website.) Looking back I should have just sent them away. But in the moment I just wanted my stuff gone. We are in the middle of a move and it was the last task I needed to get done. So I gave them the go ahead. Though I did mention that I was promised a discount. They said there was no record of it (even though I showed them the text) but that they would give me a $100 discount. Which is a drop in the bucket for that total cost but better than nothing, I guess.) All-in-all...I feel like I was duped. Just to their phone line you have to sit on a 3 minute pre recorded audio. Its actually insanely horrible. Then you get transferred to a call center thats not in the country. They will gladly put you on hold 5 times and hang up. Then you get to resit through the pre recorded audio again. I finally scheduled my appointment and they said they would be there before 3. At 3 I had to call and go through the entire process to get an explanation that whoever took my call didnt actuallly book my appointment. They finally get to the pick up spot. In theory this would be a great service but something about my personal experience made me feel uneasy about it. I was downsizing to a 1 bedroom apartment and decided to get rid of a cheap couch that I got off of Amazon. It wasn't heavy at all and besides the base it was cushions.. I wanted to get a quote over the phone to get an idea if it would be in a doable range but when I reached out I was advised that they don't do that but that they come to you, assess what you need gone and will provide a quote. They advised that if you don't like the price then you can just let their reps know and they'd go on their way. The two gentleman that came to the house were friendly. I showed them the couch and they looked it over. They had a folder with prices and other info so they pulled thst out and advised about their fees and that I wouldn't need to pay environmental fees, etc. They said they charge based on how my space the items will take up on their truck (or something like that). They said the items size was comparable to a refrigerator so it would be $300ish (can't recall how much exactly). I was completely flabbergasted. The cost of trashing it would be a little less than what I paid for it new on Amazon! I was shocked and told them that I was not willing to pay that and I was sorry to waste their time. I said that that's why I tried to get and idea of cost over the phone because I literally thought it would be around $50-60. They mumbled something to each other and began to negotiate by saying that they're not supposed to but that they could discount it and get it down to $125. I thought about it but still declined. I was determined that I'd figure out alternate arrangements. They then told me that they'd call their boss to see if they could bring the cost down any more so they proceeded to walk outside to make the call. I stood there soo uncomfortablw because it felt weird like they get a commission or something by the way they were trying to negotiate the pricing. Shortly after, I walked outside and told them that unfortunately I was no longer interested in using their services. They looked disappointed and a tad bit annoyed and said that their boss may call me (which he didn't). We have had the worst experience with this company. 1). They don't give you a quote until they show up. At that point we needed the item removed so I had to accept their pretty high quote for removing one Treadmill. 2). They sent one guy to remove a heavy treadmill. And, because they wanted to hopefully reuse the treadmill, he didn't want to take it apart, so he had tried to remove it by himself intact. 3). In doing this, he repeatedly scratched huge gouges out of our wood flooring in our hallway. Not just once but numerous times. He didn't stop when he first realized he couldn't get it out without ruining our floors he kept going. I didn't get in there until he was done and then took pictures of all of the damage. 4). He finally called and got helpers to come and they did manage to get the treadmill out. He then said they were insured and would reimburse me for the cost of fixing our floors. He offered me a $200 credit which I refused. 5). Fortunately for them and us we had some extra flooring so we hired our original flooring installer to come and replace all of the damaged pieces. The total cost was $550. I have contacted the manager of the Austin office and called and emailed for the last three months to try to get this reimbursement. They keep saying they're working on it but nothing yet. I am so tired of dealing with this company, but I am not going to let them get away without paying us for this damage. TL;DR - They are way overpriced for the service provided and their pricing is opaque until the crew is on your property, being only loosely based on the amount of space your stuff takes up in their truck. As of this writing, your minimum charge will likely be $348 + Labor. First, the good. The crew was personable, professional, courteous and did the job as requested. No problems there. I even gave them a tip, because despite my reservations about the company's practices, they put in the work. That's the second star. However, the company's complete lack of up-front pricing transparency was problematic and for that reason I cannot recommend using them if you have any alternatives. Here's the deal. The company doesn't provide any pricing information or estimates up front. Nor is there a pricing menu on their website. They only do estimates on-site when the crew arrives. Now, while you can just say, "no thanks" and send them on their way, I suspect that human nature means that many people (self included) will move forward with the work because, well, they're there already and most people don't want to turn away people who have gone to the effort of driving to their house (even if it is their job). This is not technically high-pressure sales, but it is definitely adjacent to it, and I suspect it's a core aspect of their business model. Over the phone, you are told that the pricing is based on the amount of space your items take up in the truck. However, what they don't tell you is that it's not pure cubic footage; it's in tiers. The first tier is a domestic trash can. I didn't get the price for that because...who's going to call a junk hauler for a trash can's worth of stuff? So the first realistic tier you'll run into (which I did) is 1/6 of a truck. Even if your stuff takes up 1/10 of a truck, it counts as 1/6. And that tier costs $348. So there's your minimum charge right there. Keep that number in mind when calling them. That is the least you will pay, at least in Austin in 2025. The phone rep will helpfully inform you that if you have any paint or other hazardous materials, they can take that as well. Sounds good, right? The implication is that it will just be part of the truckload calculation. But what they don't tell you is there's a $75 environmental fee and a $10 e-Waste fee. So to get rid of a grocery bag of old spray paint cans, two fluorescent ballasts and four 48" fluorescent bulbs, the add-on charge was $85. I probably would've let the stuff sit in my garage at that price. All told, I paid a little over $550 to have a small (6' x 1.5'' x 3.5') wood pile and a handful of miscellaneous paint and fluorescent bulbs taken away. In hindsight, I knew it was too much at the time but opted to go forward anyway, and that's on me. But that doesn't change the fact that it was overpriced and I feel misled by their lack of transparency, which is why I'm writing this. In the future, I'll be getting several estimates from local haulers, and I recommend you do the same. read more

Absolute pure total complete SCAM artists. NEVER deal with this crew of dead beats and frauds. Over the phone they said they charge by size, and a typical treadmill is $199, but they cant confirm final pricing until in person. Once they are in person, they give you a quote for minimum size based on a portion of their truck, which turns out to be more than $350. Then they tack on extra fees for "extra weight". Then they are pushy and aggressive in demanding a tip. What I thought was going to cost $199, ended up costing more than $700. Now its true I could have told them to shove off and not paid the fee. So fair enough part of this scam is my own fault for accepting their outrageous charges. BUT, had to get the stuff out of there that day and they were able to take advantage of the situation. So sad to see these kind of business ethics in this day and age. They could have treated their customer more fairly, by being more transparent up front on how they charge. They could have taken the high road and disclosed fees and charges up front. They chose to take the low road and be SCUMMY SCUMMY SCUMMY. It's all about karma. This service was amazing! Two workers removed my decently sized L shape couch that my animals absolutely destroyed and they did it so quickly. I will definitely use them again if needed! They were really friendly too didn't scratch anything and were able to take it down three flights of stairs in one trip. Really, they can't do much better when it comes to setting up an appointment or keeping the customer informed about their pick up time. First, you get an email, next you get a phone call from HQ giving an update, and finally the actual pick up personnel call and give you an estimated time of arrival. Both Chase and Israel were friendly and courteous. They even offered to take a cardboard box that our new mattress came in. There is one small issue that needs looking at. First I called HQ to get an estimate to pick up one mattress and online the estimate was $69.00 and the HQ person (Travis) confirmed the price. Next, I received a call from (Rick) the local coordinator and he also confirmed the $69.00 cost. Finally, when Chase and Israel came to the house and I told them that I was quoted the $69,00 they had to honor the quote and I even got a 1st time customer discount, however, after all was said and done, I don't think they were too happy about the HQ quote because Israel brought out a book and showed me what they would have charged if I hadn't gotten the quote for $69,00. The book showed $368,00 because it would be estimated at 1/8th of a load and then the additional fee of $58.00 because it was a mattress. Plus tax, I would have ended up paying about $460.00. Now I can understand why many reviews say this company is a scam and are disloyal to the customers. I'm not going to recommend this company unless they provide training to all their employees as far as estimates go and would recommend to all that read this review that they insist on getting a predetermined estimate at all times. read more

I just found out how much this company charged to haul away a mid size freezer today. Freezer was the size of a small refrigerator, empty and already wheeled out to the driveway. They charged $398!!! Scheduled appointment was for 11 - 1. On the morning of, they shifted it 12 - 2 without notice. We had already gotten to the house before we found out. At 1:30, the guys coming to do the work actually called and said that they were 45 minutes away. They arrived an hour later. A good 30 minutes from the end of our window. We had scheduled this a week in advance because we had events starting at 1. When the 2 men pulled the truck in, it was already overflowing. The men said that "On Sundays the landfill is closed so we have to keep everything in there. We tried to go to Goodwill and offload a few things, but they wouldn't take them. They looked at the stack I had and outwardly showed that they didn't think this was possible. However, he was HAPPY to share with me the cost to haul my stuff away. I GOT CHARGED FOR 5/8 OF THE TRUCK. I kid you not. The truck was overflowing already and he told me I had a 5/8 load. As a math teacher, I said "You don't have room for 5/8 of that truck to fill with my stuff." To which he showed me the tattered, torn piece of cloth designed to keep an overflowing truck full. They had me over a barrel, which is exactly where they wanted me. I agreed to the cost. I had no other options at this point. They cut, sledge hammered and crammed my stuff in there. Just about done (they only had 2 things left to put in), my husband arrived to pick me up. I said "are they done?" since the last I'd looked, they were almost done. He said "No, they were sitting in the cab of the truck eating a snack and having a "cooling break." The day before I had a CREW OF 5 with 3 TRUCKS load us in the pouring down rain, and the cost per hour was $411. These 2 charged me $600 to load (apparently 5/8 of their dinky dump truck) in 45 minutes, and they had to take cooling breaks in the process. The loaders were dressed professionally and apologized for "someone at the office" making them do all these pickups on Sundays when they know that isn't a day that they can dump between runs. They worked hard and got it all to "fit". Then, the receipt arrived with no breakdown at all. I have had no response as of this writing explaining why it was rescheduled, why they didn't tell me about the Sunday issues (there were other options), why they charged so much, why the truck was so full, and why I got a receipt that shared none of this. At 8:30 I received a call apologizing because their truck was having problems. They said they would reschedule for the same time slot the next day, and it would be discounted for the inconvenience. The next day they were again a no show. After calling their support number for a ETA someone calls to apologize because they were still down a truck. Again he says they would be there the next day for sure during the same window of time - 6:30-8:30PM. They called at 6:30PM to say they would be there by 8:30PM. Again they were a no show. At 9:00PM they finally returned a call requesting an ETA to say they were 1 1/2 hrs outside of Austin and could be there by 11:00PM. We said no thank you. I don't know how they remain in business. They gave me a quote to load a bunch of broken down moving boxes and 3 pieces of furniture. I declined the service after the driver gave me an initial quote. He countered with a lower quote which I accepted. After loading the cartons he stated that he couldn't take the furniture without increasing the price because the boxes took up more space than he initially thought. I should have had him unload everything but I was tired and fed up even though I was being completely ripped off. I complained in writing to the company and received an email promising a followup. Could've been WAY better. The staff that came out were friendly and on time. My biggest complaint is with their business model. It boils down to a bait and switch. They refuse to even give GROSS estimates online so that you can budget for it, all under the guise that you can say no once they are there, but in reality (and I bet there's research out there), once a person goes to the trouble of bringing their stuff out to be picked up you're way more likely to just pay even if you think it's overpriced. THEN, half the stuff you have requires an additional surcharge, like $75 for each tire or they just won't take certain things even if you put it on your online form! Yep I coulda and shoulda loaded this in my truck and taken it around to be recycled and donated myself but I was tricked by their commercials (just point and it disappears) and the convenience. It's also not like they stack things to fit more for the price. When I called to complain, they said they are ambiguous on purpose because it serves everyone better. Really?! They are ambiguous because of the bait and switch. They claim that there are so many variances in all the locations worldwide that they can't even list possible items they won't take, surcharges or base prices because it's different everywhere. Well, other companies can, OR when they confirm your appt, the local people can give you that info. I'm sure the local franchise has that in their system. Their trucks are small too. Junk hauling seems to be a pretty lucrative business but I'm pretty happy with the work I had performed by 1800GOTJUNK. I also got bids from junk luggers and jiffy junk and they were both over $100 higher than my quote from 800gotjunk. I had to get a hot tub hauled off and they broke it into pieces with a sledgehammer so it would fit their truck and probably did it all within 30 minutes. Scheduled an appointment yesterday for this morning; Victor and Sean on the truck team were professional and adaptive to the changing circumstances. I initially sent them away when they told me the price for removing my junk, which would fill half a truck. I was blown away, because there was no heads-up as to what kind of pricing range to expect. After I sent them away, I called the main number, and got a call from manager Jacob at the Austin office within minutes. After Jacob worked with me on the price, the truck team came back and they remained professional and polite while removing all my junk. While I understand that different franchises under this company's name will have different rates, it's clear that this franchise has an impressive communications response time, whether for initial appointments or any issues which merit attention. With that in mind, maybe their "dispatch office", or whoever they have at the main office, upon receipt of new orders, can reach out to the customers via text, e-mail, or phone, and provide applicable rates for that franchise's area of operations (i.e. 1/4 truck, 1/2 truck, full truck, etc.). This will maximize all parties' understanding of expectations before the truck team arrives on site. read more

The gentlemen who did the storage unit move out did a great job. They were on time, worked quickly, and did what was expected for this job - even politely handling the renegotiation required because the 800# employee just gave a range for the service. I was quoted $228 to $458 and was told that when the employees could see the items to determine the percentage of their truck that would be taken up by my "junk," they would give the exact cost. I booked them thinking $458 would be the most I would be spending. Long story short, I paid more than quoted since the movers were there, and I wanted to walk away done with the unit. The communication with the schedulers regarding what you're told the service will cost and what the on-site movers determine you need to pay based on the size of your "junk" should be consistent. It puts the on-site employee in a difficult position and leaves the customer less than 100% satisfied. read more

While visiting Austin on business I was driving and saw a 1-800 Got Junk truck pull up next to me at a stop light. The passenger of the vehicle was blowing smoke clouds out of his truck and I initially thought nothing of it. The smoke turned out to be marijuana smoke which I thought was extremely unprofessional and dangerous. Y'all are operating these big trucks on the road and your truck crews are blatantly smoking weed while driving. This is obviously 1 illegal and 2 very dangerous for others on the road.
