Great newer brewery. Worth the stop! The inside is beautiful. Beer selection is smaller but everyone we tried was wonderful. Owner was also lovely.

Great beer! Love the atmosphere as well. A little Midcoast gem worth a detour. Please keep brewing!

Visited here while I was traveling in Maine and the beer was unique and really good. You can tell the owner cares a lot about what he brews

If you ever find yourself traveling along Route 1 in Maine, make sure to plan a visit to the Maine…read moreTasting Center to explore state's local food history and culture. My sister and I passed it on the road during a roadtrip last year and made a note to plan time for a visit during our most recent coastal Maine adventures and it was a highlight of the trip for both of us. We're both big foodies and always try to learn about the local food scene and the Maine Tasting Center is intentionally designed to do just that. We participated in their Flavors of Maine 101 tasting class (offered daily at 2pm but make sure to book by 1:45 day of) and it was SO GOOD. We also opted to do the additional drink pairing with the day's tasting board and I would highly recommend. Our wonderful teacher took us through three themed courses that paid homage to the state's native influence, the modern day dairy industry, and of course seafood. Everything on the board was delicious (okay maybe the seaweed salad wasn't my favorite but it was still super interesting to try and learn about). We'll definitely be returning on future trips and I can't wait to try some of their other class options I saw them advertising (especially the cheese class!)

Another nice aspect was the free recipe with spice packets, free chocolate tasting and free coffee grounds. All these were very tasty. So I have confidence their food was probably good, though we did not order any. The drinks were quite horrible. There were two of us who stopped in. One tried the spirit flight and the other the mead and kombucha flight. Nothing was good to either of us. I've never left a spirit behind, but this time I had to. The offerings were just terrible to taste. Hopefully they'll get some better local businesses to support their drink offerings in the future.

We had been planning our rehearsal dinner at Back River Bistro for months, and it was truly a…read morefabulous evening from start to finish! We had a very large group of 31 guests, and the restaurant did an incredible job accommodating our celebration. With Corinna's help we planned a seasonal menu with oysters, appetizers, main courses and dessert. We started with oysters; a small table was set up near the bar where local oysters were shucked in front of us, presented on the shell with house-made mignonette and cocktail sauces. Very delicious and a great pairing with wine and beer. The bar area was cleared, so that mingling was easy and spacious. After that we were seated at three decorated tables. Then the food started rolling out of the kitchen; house focaccia with maple butter, Bistro Caesar salad, mushroom toast and additional appetizers, all delicious. The focaccia with maple butter and mushroom toast were group favorites. For entrées, the kitchen was killing it with sweet corn risotto, monkfish, and short ribs. We had never had monk fish, so we decided to try it, and boy are we glad we did - outstanding, with lentils, lightly seasoned to let the fish shine through, cooked perfectly. The sweet corn risotto is a plate I will be back for, the gruyere a nice backdrop for the corn. Following up with a simple but elegant dessert of sticky toffee pudding with brown butter-bay leaf ice cream and blueberry ice cream, sweet toffee with a cool, creamy finish; a great combination. Really, really an exceptional meal, our guests are still talking about it a week later. Service was excellent; friendly, efficient and always present, with a smile. The food and the portions were top notch. We can't say enough about it, the atmosphere was laid back but refined, the restaurant was neat and clean and Corinna was flexible, accommodating several last-minute requests. Most importantly, Back River Bistro provided the perfect setting for such a special family celebration. We are so grateful to the entire team for helping make our rehearsal dinner such a memorable evening. I would absolutely recommend Back River Bistro for a special occasion and especially for the incredible food! 5+ stars. We highly recommend!
