For those of you who don't know, it's made with Ceylon leaves, evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. The French toast was so damn delicious but a bit indulgent. I do wish I could taste more of the peanuts. My son loved his bolo bao. We also shared a hot bowl of macaroni soup with Spam and lettuce. Thinking back, I regret not trying the Spicy Satay Beef Instant Noodle. I will have to look for this back in the states. The aunties working here are just the most adorable, very kind and welcoming. One of them took the time to help us navigate the huge menu and recommended a few items. I would come back again and again if I could. I have a mad love for these iconic HK Style Cafes aka Cha Chaan Tengs. These affordable quick-paced restaurants were influenced by the city's 150 years of British rule. Aside from the classic breakfast items, they also offer many delicious rice and noodle dishes in the afternoon.

We got here fairly early, so we didn't have to wait for a table. Service was as expected - quick, efficient, and no nonsense. A tell-tale sign of a good HK cafe. The food just hit the spot for me, bringing me right back to my childhood memories of eating this on weekend mornings at our local HK cafe. One day we just showed up before 5 pm and were seated right away. The strategy is to dine at this place before the lunch/dinner crowd! We were amazed by the varieties of dishes on the menu! It took us 10 minutes to decide on our favorites. We ordered sizzling mixed grill with steak, chicken fillet, pork chop, bacon, and sausage (all for HK$85 or US$11) and sizzling chicken fillet with fried shrimp (HK$78 or US$10). Each came with choices of rice, spaghetti, or vegetables and choices of black pepper sauce, garlic sauce or gravy! We also ordered fish fillet, black fungus, and mixed mushroom with rice in soup (HK$45 or US$5.80)! OMG! First, the sizzling mixed grill had 5 kinds of meat - steak, chicken fillet, pork chop, bacon, and sausage. The serving was good for two people. We didn't know better and put in three orders (for three people). One order was with rice and garlic sauce. The other two orders were with spaghetti and black pepper sauce. All the meat was tender, soft, and tasty! In the end, we took almost half of the dishes home. The sizzling chicken fillet with fried shrimp was prepared excellently! The fish fillet, black fungus, and mixed mushroom came in a bowl. It was surprisingly good with no fishy smell! The servers were very attentive, friendly, and polite. I highly recommend this little cafe with big dishes! Definitely, we shall return and try other items on the main menu! BTW: be sure to grab some pineapple buns on your way home! They have a small counter outside the restaurant selling the pastries. The pineapple bun has crispy top and soft! Simply scrumptious!

Although it was busy on my first visit, it didn't feel overwhelming, nor did I feel rushed and herded by staff. Orders are done through the QR code on the table, but my phone service was wonky that day and one of the employees was very nice and took my order. That did lead me to panic ordering the HOTTEST egg toast, but that's my own fault and I surely paid the consequence. I like spicy food, but that lacked flavor and only burned. They have a big menu, including vegetarian options and famous HK bakery items like egg tarts and pineapple bread. The regular egg toast is delicious, a heaping serving of creamy eggs over thick toast. Then of course I had to try the famous Hong Kong Milk tea, which was also delicious. It's made with a full bodied black tea and has a rich earthy flavor. No sugar added so it's not sweet unless you make it so. When I was finished, I paid at the register and was on my way.

We got a char siu macaroni soup, bolo bao, and truffle scrambled egg toast. There was a lot of egg on the toast but the truffle tasted more like a dark chocolate crumble? Not sure if that's what it was supposed to be but still appetizing. Macaroni soup was delicious. I just enjoy pasta in soup. Lol. The bolo bao was a bit of a disappointment due to the bread being cold. I don't know if there was an option to just tell them we wanted it hot. Also ordered Hong Kong milk tea but the waiter misheard even though he repeated it and sent a sweet tea instead. Not bad for a comfort food spot.

Their baked pork chop rice 焗豬排飯 ($72) is out of this world! Haha, I'm exaggerating. It's one of the best I've tried in HK, seriously. When it first came out, piping hot, I was worried that the pork would be tough and over-cooked. Completely the opposite. It was so tender to bite into, and my taste buds just melted. Combine that with the tomato sauce and baked cheese...mm...tastes like heaven. Tsui Wah's quality of food has always been consistent, at least in my books. The service is, eh, not too bad compared to other cha chaan tengs.

The top floors of the mall really doesn't seem like it gets much traffic nowadays. However, the basement is still pretty active, probably because there's a fairly large Mahjong club down there. LOL! I saw the servers setting tables up and bringing food out, then a whole table of ~8 people would just roll out of the Mahjong club next door and start chowing down. From the look of it, they have quite a large selection of dishes, including some decent looking seafood as well. Unfortunately, I was just on my own this time, so was only able to try a few limited items. The steamed free range chicken was definitely solid. Honestly, it's pretty hard to go wrong with chicken in Hong Kong. Price is slightly more expense than other local diners, but just marginally so. The oyster congee came pretty loaded with oysters as well. Unfortunately, flavor was a bit weak though. Overall, nice place to eat and will definitely welcome another chance to try more dishes next time.
