Kam Wah Cafe is also famous for their freshly baked Pineapple Bun and Butter. Can't start your day without some HK Milk Tea and Iced Ovaltine. My son said it's a good thing the nai cha in the states are not as good because he was starting to develop an addiction. Lol. For those of you who don't know, it's made with Ceylon leaves, evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. The French toast was so damn delicious but a bit indulgent. I do wish I could taste more of the peanuts. My son loved his bolo bao. We also shared a hot bowl of macaroni soup with Spam and lettuce. Thinking back, I regret not trying the Spicy Satay Beef Instant Noodle. I will have to look for this back in the states. The aunties working here are just the most adorable, very kind and welcoming. One of them took the time to help us navigate the huge menu and recommended a few items. I would come back again and again if I could. I have a mad love for these iconic HK Style Cafes aka Cha Chaan Tengs. These affordable quick-paced restaurants were influenced by the city's 150 years of British rule. Aside from the classic breakfast items, they also offer many delicious rice and noodle dishes in the afternoon.

It took us 10 minutes to decide on our favorites. We ordered sizzling mixed grill with steak, chicken fillet, pork chop, bacon, and sausage (all for HK$85 or US$11) and sizzling chicken fillet with fried shrimp (HK$78 or US$10). Each came with choices of rice, spaghetti, or vegetables and choices of black pepper sauce, garlic sauce or gravy! First, the sizzling mixed grill had 5 kinds of meat - steak, chicken fillet, pork chop, bacon, and sausage. The serving was good for two people. We didn't know better and put in three orders (for three people). One order was with rice and garlic sauce. The other two orders were with spaghetti and black pepper sauce. All the meat was tender, soft, and tasty! In the end, we took almost half of the dishes home. The sizzling chicken fillet with fried shrimp was prepared excellently! The fish fillet, black fungus, and mixed mushroom came in a bowl. It was surprisingly good with no fishy smell! The servers were very attentive, friendly, and polite. They have a big menu, including vegetarian options and famous HK bakery items like egg tarts and pineapple bread. The regular egg toast is delicious, a heaping serving of creamy eggs over thick toast. Then of course I had to try the famous Hong Kong Milk tea, which was also delicious. It's made with a full bodied black tea and has a rich earthy flavor. No sugar added so it's not sweet unless you make it so. When I was finished, I paid at the register and was on my way.

Their baked pork chop rice 焗豬排飯 ($72) is out of this world! Haha, I'm exaggerating. It's one of the best I've tried in HK, seriously. When it first came out, piping hot, I was worried that the pork would be tough and over-cooked. Completely the opposite. It was so tender to bite into, and my taste buds just melted. Combine that with the tomato sauce and baked cheese...mm...tastes like heaven. Tsui Wah's quality of food has always been consistent, at least in my books. The top floors of the mall really doesn't seem like it gets much traffic nowadays. However, the basement is still pretty active, probably because there's a fairly large Mahjong club down there. LOL! I saw the servers setting tables up and bringing food out, then a whole table of ~8 people would just roll out of the Mahjong club next door and start chowing down. From the look of it, they have quite a large selection of dishes, including some decent looking seafood as well. Unfortunately, I was just on my own this time, so was only able to try a few limited items. The steamed free range chicken was definitely solid. Honestly, it's pretty hard to go wrong with chicken in Hong Kong. Price is slightly more expense than other local diners, but just marginally so. The oyster congee came pretty loaded with oysters as well. Unfortunately, flavor was a bit weak though.
