Back to the main content - ramen. Overall speaking, it tasted ok but it is not very outstanding. I ordered the one with mushrooms and truffle, costing $78, which I think it's a good deal. There's an option to add $28 for a combo, i.e. half-boiled egg + salad + soft drinks. The soup is very concentrated and salty but filled with the smell of truffles which is very pleasant. The chewiness of noodles was alright though my personal preference is to be more softer (I am too lazy to chew). The ramen also goes with two pieces of meat which is tender to eat. I have also tried a spoon of my frd's ramen soup. Hers was fish bone soup, having s sense of freshness which is nice too.

I usually go with a friend and order off their set menu, which means your soup noodle comes in a huge bowl and has all of the toppings inside (tip: share this with a friend if you have a small stomach). All orders come with bean sprouts, bean curd and chives. You can also add any additional toppings like chicken, beef, fish balls etc. I'd recommend their wings too. The popularity of rice sticks shops soared only very recently; I could still remember a time where there is only won ton noodles. Truth be told, this rice pasta is not originated from the southeastern part of China; rather, it comes more from the southwest, the Yungui region of China. Tamjai is one of the pioneers that introduced this form of pasta into the local scene and popularize it amongst the local community. Since that region of China like their food hot, Tamjai has preserved this tradition and bring heat along with the pasta. The fun part of having this style of noodle soup is that you can choose basically what ever topping you fancy: chicken, pork, brisket...you have to see for yourselves for the variation of toppings they offer. You can also get to choose the soup to go with the noodles and toppings; bad news to those who could not stand the heat, 3 out of 4 soup bases are hot. If you want to challenge yourself, there are also different level of hotness for you to choose, ranging from 1/4 chili, their scale in gauging hotness, to over 5 of them. I would not recommend the top level of hotness for the, not faint of hearts, but of guts, as it is hot enough to make one sweat with only the hotness of 1/2 chili. Another thing i seriously have to make clear is their portion. People say everything's bigger in Texas, well, then i suppose the Tam's family has got a little Texas in them as well. There's no reservation for this place. Their simple dipping ramen menu consists of three types. They only make about 100 bowls per serving hour so you may be out of luck if you arrive late. The décor is simple. Some wooden panels and the chairs are coke cartons zipped tied together giving it a very "shum shui po" feel. In all honesty, there are more dipping ramen places in Hong Kong to try. But if you happen to be in the area... or you happen to be in Shum Shui Po, this is a great place to nom.

It's literally hidden in Dragon Center in the back corner down an alley way on the 7th floor. I've been here twice, and I loved it both times. How to tsukemen: For those who have never had tsukemen, this is a dip noodle. Basically, you take their homemade noodles and dip it into the broth for flavor and then you eat it. Simple right? It also keeps the noodles at a chewy consistency. When you're all done eating and dipping the noodles, they will pour stock into your broth to dilute it so you can drink it after. The broth itself is intense for noodle dipping, so you must dilute it to drink or else it's too much. How to order: You're given a piece of paper to order the food, and you select what type of tsukemen you would like. They only have three different flavor broths (white, black, red), so it's not a hard decision. White is original, black is garlic-y, and red is tomato-y. If you add more ingredients then they'll charge more. This place generally costs 100-150HKD, depending on what broth and add-ons you get. My favorite is the white because the black is too garlic-y but the red is a close second. I like to add another egg (your ramen comes with one already) because those things are halfway cooked, runny, and delicioussss. I also add menma, which is fermented bamboo shoots that go perfectly with ramen. Yummm. The ambience is alright. It's a small place so don't expect a lot. The interior is pretty cute despite the location as it reminds me of Japan. The chairs here are the worst since they're stacked crates with very little leg room. I sit off to the side to make up for that, but if you're tall, you've got some problems. The service is spot on! They're super nice and ask if you need help with ordering since tsukemen isn't really common. My waitress was lovely and came whenever I needed any help, which it was a lot because my friends kept asking for things. We all needed stock for our broth at different times, and she was still so patient with us. Loved her!

It's not surprising to see that majority of the restaurants in a mall are Japanese, and that they're the most popular ones too. I'm sure you must have noticed the rise of $3 sushi takeout shops around HK, many of which are situated in MTR stations for added convenience. There is one directly across the Tai Wai Station, and come 5pm or 6pm - it'll be packed. Sushi here is extremely affordable - just $3 - so you could have 10 pieces and it would only be $30! How it works is that the sushi is all individually wrapped. You take a clear plastic box and take the pieces you want and just add it to your box. There are also disposable chopsticks, soy sauce and wasabi packs for you to take. During peak hours, you will have to do some pushing and shoving because this tiny shop does attract a lot of people! Besides individual pieces of sushi for $3, you can also buy boxes of sushi which are quite inexpensive too. 230 grams of salmon sashimi goes for $75, which is quite a bit cheaper than if you were to buy it at other places! Hand rolls are only just $5 and they make for a great midnight snack. The sushi is generally fresh as it's made in the kitchen on-site, but you definitely cannot expect anything close to top-grade sushi and sashimi here - it's all made at the cheaper prices possible, to be sold at the cheaper prices possible.

For a long while Taiwanese cuisine has been popular amongst the local community; not only food,…read moreeven beverages like bubble tea has been beloved by the locals for many years; so popular that there is literally more bubble tea shops than supermarkets. Bafang Yunji continued the trend of Taiwanese fever and introduced another form of Taiwanese goodness into Hong Kong. Originally focus mainly on dumpling, now Bafang has incorporated more elements into their chains. Before going into the other food options, i think their dumpling is totally worth mentioning. With four distinct flavors for people to choose from, Bafang offers cabbage, chinese chives, Kimchi and curry flavored dumplings served either pan seared or steamed. For those who enjoy the contrasting texture of crisp crisp crust and juicy interior should definitely go for the pan seared option whereas for people who concern more above their daily calorie intake should opt for steamed dumplings. You will be surprised by the amount of juice each dumpling holds whenever you bite into it; pretty much like any pastries with juicy interior, you are best warned not to gobble through them as you are very likely to burn your mouth. Other than dumplings, Bafang now also serve Taiwanese beef noodels as well as miswa with pork intestines. I would say the former is not as astoundingly good as I have had better ones, but the miswa was quite up to standard. You can taste the katsuobushi that is used to make the broth; this very definition of umami makes it basically unstoppable once you have a spoonful of the miswa soup. Typically the taiwanese would add garlic and vinegar into the soup, this adds an extra dimension to the soup and makes it much lighter and refreshing. Out of curiosity I have tried the authentic Bafang in Taiwan and is totally taken aback by the fact that the chain in Hong Kong is no match to the indigenous version of the store; yet the Hong Kong version of it would still serve as a qualify candidate to ease my home sickness of Taiwan.
