Review #300 is dedicated to a very special dish - The Drunken Squab…read more "Drunken" poultry is a famous Shanghainese delicacy that is often served as a cold appetizer. Drunken chicken is the most popular dish and is readily available even in the US, especially in areas like the SGV. Drunken squab is a lot more difficult to find in the US. Heck... just any good and fresh (not frozen) squab is hard enough to find in the US. Despite its name, this dish won't make you drunk, as the proper way of preparing it is to boil the wine first before using it as a marinade so that all the alcohol is evaporated, and the wine is properly reduced. Also, boiling the wine with some coarse sea salt and spices greatly enhances its flavor. The drunken squab here at Wu Kong was the best one that I have ever had. Period. The squab itself was fresh and the meat was flavorful. It was perfectly cooked so that the meat was tender. It was marinated perfectly so that the wine enhanced the natural flavor of the meat rather than overwhelming it. The wine was high quality premium stuff - very smooth and gentle to the palate -- and it was reduced properly to produce a rich flavor. This is a squab lover's dream come true. Before I forget... Everything else that we ordered were good. XLB's - They had the largest juice pockets of any XLB's that I've ever had. Each one contained at least one to two large soup spoonfuls of juices. The best way to eat them is to wait for it to cool down a bit (so you won't burn your tongue) and eat it in one bite. If you must take more than one bite, eat it over a small bowl so you won't lose those yummy and precious juices. Fried Dumplings - Also very very juicy. Be careful when you bite into it so that the juices don't squirt out. Scallion Pancakes - They were quite unique and were shaped like a donut rather than the thin pancake style generally found in the US. They were absolutely yummy, pan-fried to golden brown on the outside, moist and slightly chewy inside. Amazing. Cold Noodles - A great idea on a hot summer day! It was beautifully presented with 3 types of shredded meat on top and came with a nice setting of sauces, which included chili paste, a sweet soy sauce, peanut sauce, sesame oil, etc. Shanghainese Chili Stir Fry - Sweet and mildly spicy hot, this could be served with noodles, steamed rice, steamed buns (man tow) or scallion pancakes. Absolutely yummy and authentically Shanghainese! This place is quite expensive ($$$) but I assure you that it's worth every penny. If you decide to open up your wallet and spoil yourself with some of the best Shanghainese cuisine in the World, then this is the place. A solid 5-star experience, even by Hong Kong's high standard of Asian cuisine.

Very decent place for gatherings and groups. *Peking duck - it takes them about 45 mins to roast one so suggest you call them ahead of time to tell them to start roasting before you arrive. Great "gamey" taste with most of the fat "roasted away". The pancake is of the dry and thin type ... much better than what you will find at Peking Garden and a little bit less authentic compared to those in spring deer restaurant in TST. *Hairy crab set dinner - very very delicious. Every dish is covered with a lot of 蟹粉！ *Fried rice with egg white, conpoy and Chinese kale - delicate and balanced. Just the right amount of everything. they peeled off the "skin" of the Chinese kale so everything feels good and chewable in your mouth!!! Another good thing is that getting table reservation s quite easy.

The outside does not inspire much confidence: tourist trap name and size, with cantina style furniture. Some typical local dishes, but a lot of other stuff as well. The staff was not much better: not very welcoming and rather uncomfortable with English. I thought I ordered a small beer, got a large one. I ordered beef and noodles, got porc and rice (but I was hungry and the dish looked ok, so I decided to keep it). The noodles finally came when I was halfway, so I declined. It was tasty, but this is not worth the 4 stars it had so far. It is worth how it looks like: 3 stars at most.

We ordered two beef noodles, one with soup and one without (HK$65 each). The beef soup noodles had a very flavorful and strong broth, a bit sweet for my taste. The dry one was ok, not too memorable. I ordered Taiwanese fried chicken expecting the crunchy and crispy popcorn chicken bites, but they were chicken strips instead? Not the same... Our friends also ordered fried shrimp with salted egg sauces and it ended up costing HK$118?! A rip-off, much? Drinks service was a bit slow, while they served my friend's beer right away, they overlooked my cold soy milk, which was given to me in a takeaway cup with straw...? The 乾煸四季豆 green beans was pretty tasty, lots of the fried dried shrimp. I'll return if I'm in the Quarry Bay area and craving Taiwanese beef noodles.

The set also comes with a cold soy milk. You may change to a different drink for an additional charge. The flavor was all really good, and portion size was perfect for me. Soy milk was good too. No grainy bits and not too sweet. Service: They were very efficient in taking our order. Food came quickly. Good for a quick lunch. Price: HK$50+ Tip: Go before 12pm as the place starts to get packed. We were first ones there on a weekday at 11:45am.

You can select from 1 hour or 90 minutes and within this time frame you can order as much meat as you want. They have several grades of beef, we opted for the Supreme Japanese Wagyu beef. You have the choice of 7 different kinds of soups and with 4 persons you will get 2 pots for cooking. The meat is freshly sliced and brought to the table. For the condiments, sauces, vegetables, noodles, different meat / fish balls there is a buffet table. The star of course is the beef and it really is very good. It is sliced thinly enough, it is juicy, tender and almost melts in your mouth. If you're not full after all this beef, you can have different flavors of Haagen Dazs ice cream, which is included in the price. Service in general is efficient and quite friendly. If you go for the 90 minutes Supreme Wagyu course it will set you back HK$ 319 per person. Children to a certain height eat at 50% of the adult price. Given the quality of the beef, it is good value for money.

This is a small street stall on the corner and they can set up a table and some chairs for you. I would grab a juice down the street or something from 7-11 because you might be burning up after some of this "ma-la" szechuan flavor. I would recommend the cold spicy noodles. The noodles are soooo good. Al-Dente. The spice is a "ma-la" type, which has some numbing and direct heat. I think the mild isn't very spicy at all. If you get the spicy, you'll probably be able to enjoy the bowl but you won't really enjoy the bowl when you're sitting on the bowl. You can win the battle but not the war ;). I also liked the spicy wontons as they're sitting in this delicious broth of ma-la flavoring. Be careful of this one, as the spice really warms up the belly. A must stop if you're in the neighborhood!
