You know how I tell others that there's basically nothing to eat near where I live. Until very recently this little shop adds a fresh and exciting taste to the relatively bland neighborhood.
This little shop sells Korean snacks such as Tteokbokki (rice cakes in spicy sauce), korean style fried chicken, gimbap (rice rolled in roasted seaweed stuffed with veggies) as well as full on meals such as bibimbap (mixed rice) and nengmeon (cold noodles).
To be very frank, the quality of the food was rather good, but when taking the price into consideration, the items are not that value for money. Although the food sold there is rather filling (starchy), yet the portions are not that huge; we're talking about $20 for a cup of tteokbokki of the size of a take away hot beverage cup in fast food restaurants.
Yes, I am aware that the ingredients used are very likely to be fresh and of good qualities; this also explains why formal Korean restaurants are often more expensive. I think this shop is more or less in this situation of which the price of the menu items has to be higher in order to cover the considerably high costs. It is never easy to survive as a small private shop, especially in Hong Kong; I could tell from the food they prepared that they are passionate about food and strive to maintain a high standard.
For that, I applaud them. read more
