The decor was nothing fancy, but spacious and comfortable. The buffet was a grand total of $185, with the 10% included. Now, I'm not usually a fan of buffets because I'll be guaranteed to overeat, and my overstuff stomach now is proof. I haven't been to a BBQ buffet ever, but I was quite impressed with the selection. Firstly, we were served tea as promptly as we were seated. The selection of meats ranged from all cuts of beef, chicken, pork, sausages and seafood such as fish, squid, shrimp, cuttlefish. You really couln't complain about the meats selection. The veg selection was much smaller in comparison, I would've loved to see more, but in actuality, I probably wouldn't have eaten that much anyway. The sides selection was quite good. With the Korean sides such as anchovies and beansprouts, but also a few Chinese options like tofu, potatos, chicken feet, noodles and Chinese veg. The desserts were mostly of the traditional Chinese sort - with mango sago, glutinous rice balls, sweet potato soup, grass jelly, and papaya and white fungus. The papaya and fungus hit the right spot for me. I wish I was hungrier as I would have definitely eaten more if I could. By dessert time, I was also feeling a slight discomfort in my stomach, and didn't get to try as many desserts as I'd liked. Everything was good, but the only reservations I had was about some of the meat. It gave me the impression that it may have sat out there for a while, as pools of bloody water was collecting at the bottom. And when we were cooking it, stuff oozed out of it that was indication about their having been defrosted. I avoided the chicken just in case. But in general all their meats were very well marinated. I didn't try their sushi as it wasn't in the prettiest form, but I saw a lot of other guests having them. I'd definitely recommend you go if you're famished, you will get a full belly for sure! But for me, I think I'd rather go to an a la carte place and be sure I'm getting really fresh and premium cuts, and not have the time limit of 1.5 hours to eat (which is plenty really but for a buffet, you feel rushed!)

Comparing things here to my adopted home, London, where there is a wide range of cuisine on offer, Hong Kong does present itself as a valid case of having your cake and eating it. The reason behind this, of course, is the fact that a lot of the so-called cuisines on offer are localized. I think they do it for several reasons: a) sometimes Hong Kong taste buds might not be able to handle the true local flavor (case in point: curries), they are trying to make it go mainstream (sushi) and thirdly, just like Baap: it is our perception of what Korean food is. Baap is a Korean restaurant but they insisted on calling itself a casual dining place and for good reason; this is not the authentic experience. You do get the stone pot rice, the kimchi, the BBQ- but lets face it- this is as Korean as cha siu bao. However, that's the winning formula of it. Its good value (the sets are way too much for two people), the place is relatively tidy and everything just tastes good. You are not going to impress the Head of the UN with stuff like this but for a family dinner I think this is a pretty good place to be. Next door First Korean had recently opened and was offering a very affordable lunch set and knowing that anywhere else on Disco-Bay I had to shell out over $100 for lunch. I ignored the voice in the back of my head warning me against trying Korean again. I can't tell you how many times I've been back for the same $65 Stone Pot Rice dish, enough for the waiters to know my order before I sit down. When I'm not sure what to eat - Stone Pot Rice, too lazy to cook - Stone Pot Rice, Hmmm should I try something else? No - Stone Pot Rice. That's a lie. I've tried a couple other dishes and they weren't bad; Sweet and sour chicken with rice, and sizzling beef and enoki mushrooms with rice. The chicken dish would be great save for the bones in each and every little morsel making it more of a mission than an enjoying experience. The sizzling beef is good, no complaints on this dish. But when compared to the Stone Pot Rice, it's crispy rice and tradition Korean sauce there's simply no question. Even listening to the same ten songs on repeat for the past three months hasn't stopped me from returning - in fact I think it's helping me learn to speak Korean.

I would suggest looking around at what other people have ordered if you're absolutely stumped. Fortunately, I don't think anything is a miss here so you can be a little adventurous when it comes to ordering. My recommendations are definitely the spare-ribs wrapped in cheese (my mouth is watering as I type), the spicy noodle hot pot (rabokki), and the abalone appetizer. Service is top-notch, serving sizes are generous, and prices are reasonable. What is there not to love?! Someone fly me back to Hong Kong, please.

I think the majority of their meats was pretty good, just a couple was tough to eat or wasn't tender enough. I'd definitely come back again!

In typical Korean BBQ restaurants the serves are really attentive to that and will change it for you when it gets burnt.
