Get in early to avoid disappointment - or check in late for closing specials. Whichever way you do…read moreit, expect crusty bread and bakery products, the best in Lantau - if not the New Territories. Bacon twists are the bomb. The sourdough loaves don't last long in our house. Rounding off the experience is a cosy cluster of tables with tea and coffee service. The tables face a cabinet full of good cheeses and deli meats. Popular with Pilates groups, tourists and locals.

It was near insanity, but I loved every step, especially the one where I came right up to Village Bakery's door! The wafting smell of fresh bread and pastries is hard to miss if you know where to start heading towards while in Mui Wo. (Depending upon which direction you are walking from, it's near the back off of Mui Wo Ferry Pier Road, right down the street from Fusion grocery store and around the corner from Wellcome Supermarket.) It's easy to see how it often sells out of their best sellers on weekend mornings! An assortment of trays and bins in behind clear glass doors offers a decent wall of choices. French bread and the like are their specialties but you will find many other types of breads, rolls, muffins, croissants, donuts, even cheese cakes and tarts. Need to put together a charcuterie board? No problem, they offer all the fixings for that too in their refrigerated case near the cashier counter. This tiny bakery also sells coffees, teas, flours, and beans/rice! Nice, dark wood, tables are on the other side of the wall for customers to sit down and enjoy a cup of joe or tea to go along with their purchases. So, what are you waiting for? Grab your music, appetite, (some good walking shoes, too!) and head over to pay the Village so you can let the Proclaimers loose as you move the rhythm while munching on some desserts.... da da da (da da da) But please, don't forget your headphones because not everyone wants to hear your music! Wink, wink!

My SIL insisted I try the restaurant. So glad I did. Love the decor with such an Urban feel. Bikes, tires, and road signs. Clean and modern throughout. I was captivated by their desserts. From the syringe injecting into a Bloody Berry cake to these color dusted cakes with various flavors. Wow, can we say croissant galore. How can you turn down a chocolate dipped croissant or one that is something called creme brulee? Okay, onto their real food. The slow roasted chicken came highly recommended as was the fish and chips. I also wanted to try the gwei miu salmon with a watercress risotto. They also needed to add they garnish the salmon dish with baby arugula. Hello! No need to say more. Sold! The chicken was juicy (brinded almost), full of flavor. The fish and chips had an amazing color on the fry, awesome beer battered flavored, and chunks of fish with every bite. It was over like an olive tapinade tartar sauce, which I couldn't get enough of. The risotto was perfectly cooked, which is hard to do. It was loaded with butter and cheese. Aside from its green color, it was hard to tell it was watercress. The salmon was also perfectly cooked and juicy. My only regret was that I ate too much and didn't save room for their desserts. Next time, for sure. Definitely be back and will be taking the Hubs here when he returns.

Both were delicious and filling! They have amazing croissants which you can take to-go. My favorites are the almond croissant, bo luo (pineapple bun topping) croissant, and the molten egg custard croissant.

We'll squeeze into whatever luggage space we have left with some egg rolls, cookies, tea, wife cakes, so we can bring a little sweetness home with us, to share with our friends. My favorite is their phoenix roll (the plain flavor is the best), the wife cake (no wife in it, just some candied wintermelon), and dragon beard candy. The dragon beard candy especially is almost impossible to find in the U.S. There are plenty of products to choose from, not just cakes but also tea, noodles, sausages, candies and more. A lot of their products are packaged for gifting, and come in various sizes at different price points, so it's a great last stop for souvenirs.

When I first took them off the shelf, the seals were unbroken, indicating the box was unopened. The cashier/service staff offered to "help" by taking the boxes while I looked around the store. After I rung the checkout the boxes became unsealed and half of the box was empty. The only explanation was that the store clerks had opened and stole the cookies while I was browsing the store. This is completely unacceptable and the store clerks were openly stealing from tourists. I expect this from third world areas but not from the airport store of Hong Kong, whose residents claim to be the most civilized in Asia. Stay away.
