Pouring rain brought me to Ying Kee Noodles. My friend and I were hungry, wet, and just wanted food, and being seconds from where we were staying, Ying Kee was the perfect solution to our predicament.
Noodle time:
- BBQ pork with noodles (HKD42)
- BBQ pork with soup noodles (叉燒湯麵) (HKD35)
Based on limited online research, it looks like the beef tendon noodle soup and wonton noodle soup are both popular dishes here. We, however, went with a lovely picture we saw posted on the wall from a newspaper/magazine article.
What we ordered were both okay, nothing special. The serving size is a bit small and probably wouldn't be enough for someone that was particularly hungry. The woman behind us ordered some kind of fried fish thing that looked good, but we couldn't figure out what that was on the menu...
Service was what is generally expected in Hong Kong, but maybe slightly better. One woman spoke a little Mandarin, which was useful for us. The menu is all in Chinese, so be prepared for that if you don't speak Cantonese and can't read Chinese characters (not that reading helps because I can read and still couldn't figure out half the menu...)
Cash only. Closes at 7pm. Good for a quick bite. read more
