Maxim's in Hong Kong where it comes from has better cakes than those in the States, at least the stores in HK use real cheese for their cheesecakes, unlike those in the US that use jello but claiming "cheese" (those Chinese bakeries are still making bakes like in the 50s). The breads are good deals and decent taste. Considering the freaking expensive pricing in HK, many bakeries are ridiculously expensive. I think Maxim's is in the middle overall. Their cakes are not too sweet either, compared to Arome Bakery (東海堂).
Another advantage Maxim's has is they accept credit cards, which is a huge saver for people/tourists like me who are used to using cards rather than carry cash around. HK is so far behind in the mobilization movement technology wise, so taking cards is really a huge plus for customers. read more
