The Bostonian Seafood & Grill is located at The Langham Hotel, 8 Peking Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong right in the heart of the city. With a price range of 800-1000 HKD$ per person, this hotel restaurant offers smart casual dining with decent wine options. Their website is at www.langhamhotels.com/en/the-langham/hong-kong
Before I dined at the restaurant, I went to their website to check out their offerings and here's my review of their online menu. ( Attached here for your ease of reference)
Overall, their menu layout is clean and minimal and easy to navigate. The sectional headers are grouped by their course sequence and by meal need states in a clear and easily-searchable manner. The menu's muted brown palette does not seem suitable for a restaurant that focuses mainly on seafood which has a predominantly fresh and bright flavour profile. Overall graphic design, colour and typography does look like it may need a design update.
Being a seafood restaurant, the offerings reflect a focus on seasonal focus with a good selection of both hot and cold appetisers, main courses, sides, desserts and beverages. The wine menu is not huge but has a varied enough taste profile to pair with most of the dishes.
Origins of the ingredients, cooking methods and flavour profiles are clearly listed and communicated. The prices of the dishes were clearly accompanied by details on potion size and in some cases, even right down to the serving weight.
Special dietary considerations for vegetarian guests were also laid out clearly. However it would be even more inclusive if more info is made available for gluten-free and allergen-friendly and other dietary restrictions.
Special highlights were also made for some of their signature dishes and chef recommendations.
Overall, their online menu is user-friendly and makes for quick and efficient ordering. However, it might benefit from having a more expressive narrative that attempts to story-tell a little on the concept of the restaurant's food ethos and their obsession about the quality of their seafood. Adding more emotional engagement to their online content will create closer connections between them and their customers.
And now let's move from an online to an offline experience.
The menu at Bostonian Seafood & Grill offers a wide variety of classic maritime dishes, and I had the opportunity to try several delightful items with a dinner companion celebrating her birthday.
The Fine De Claire oysters were incredibly fresh. Each oyster was carefully shucked and presented on a bed of ice, perfectly chilled and ready to be enjoyed. The briny sweetness of the oysters was complemented by the tangy and zesty Mignonette dressing, which enhanced the natural flavours of the oysters.
The steak tartare of traditional hand-cut beef was expertly seasoned and mixed with capers, shallots, and the perfect amount of seasoning. Served alongside crispy, toasted sourdough chips, the dish offered a wonderful contrast of textures and flavours. The richness of the beef was balanced by the crunch of the sourdough, making it a delightful starter that left a lasting impression.
The New England Seafood Stew was a showstopper. Presented at the table with much dramatic flair, the stew was brimming with an assortment of fresh seafood, from succulent lobster to plump scallops and tender white fish. The rich, flavourful broth was a testament to the careful preparation and attention to detail that went into creating this dish. It was a generous and sumptuous offering that truly captured the essence of New England's maritime flavours.
The Signature baked Alaska, which was flambeed table side, was both a delicious dessert and a joy to watch. I quite enjoyed this quaint and retro dessert. It could have been less cloyingly sweet but was still a fun and dramatic wrap up to dinner.
The San Felice, Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 was the perfect accompaniment to the meal, being slightly spicy and full bodied. It definitely added to the overall dining experience, complementing the rich umami notes of the meal perfectly.
The service at Bostonian Seafood & Grill was impeccable. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly, offering wonderful recommendations and ensuring that we had an enjoyable dining experience.
J-J, was particularly kind and entertained my request to double the amount of flames on the Alaska for extra dramatic effect.
The general atmosphere of the restaurant was elegant yet inviting, with a smart but unpretentious decor and a lively buzz of conversation. The lively views of the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong added to the overall ambiance, making it a perfect urban setting for a memorable meal.
Overall, I would rate my experience at Bostonian Seafood & Grill as a 4 out of 5. The exceptional food, impeccable service, and wonderful atmosphere make it a must-visit for anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience in Hong Kong. read more
