The dessert shop is right outside the Po Lam MTR station which is pretty convenient and I think it's a plus that they open late just so I could satisfy any late night cravings :) We ordered four items: a matcha shaved ice, a traditional taro and sweet potato dessert, a mango souffle, and a boba, coconut milk, mochi mixture. I personally thought the desserts were pretty mediocre and nothing really stood out to me.. The shaved ice was a bit bitter because of the matcha, but I guess that shows that they use actual matcha powder instead of flavoring. The sweet potato dessert was super gingery so if you're someone who doesn't really like ginger you should beware. The coconut milk dessert was too coconuty for my preference and lastly, the souffle was just a souffle. The menu is simple and they've got most of the must-haves at dessert shops. They have a minimum spend per person if you are dining in, so beware if your group has a person who doesn't do sweet soups. The worst thing (or best thing) that could happen is you eat one for them. The tongsui we ordered were all very basic and while they were delicious, I couldn't tell if they were better or higher quality ingredients compared to other shops across Hong Kong. If I were to be in the area and wanting tongsui, then sure why not. But I am unsure if I would purposely take the train and walk here.

We first stopped by Beans to check out the menu. Although we were quite interested in Beans' afternoon combo set menu, we decided to browse around first because Beans' afternoon menu is available until 6pm. After quickly walking around Popcorn, Park Central and TKO Plaza, we decided to come back to Beans. This was our first cafe experience on this trip to Hong Kong, and it can easily be the best one because we had a wonderful time at the cafe. We ordered one afternoon combo to share ($58 HKD). We also upgraded the combo for an additional $25 HKD and received another signature cake. We ordered a lava Earl Grey toast, a rose latte with 3D latte art (no extra charge), and a stone (a black sesame dessert with yuzu and cream filling). The toast was beautifully presented and its toasty exterior (yet somehow without a hint of being burnt) juxtaposed perfectly with its Earl Grey flavored lava. The stone dessert looked so real that I gingerly tapped its exterior, expecting some kind of hard-shelled dessert. To my surprise, despite its deceptively smooth exterior, the black sesame exterior was soft and provided no resistance to my fork. It was a nouvelle, yet well-executed, dessert. The only mild letdown from this cafe was the latte, as its rose flavor overpowered the coffee taste. However, the lovely 3D latte art more than made up for it as it kept a smile on my wife's face during the whole meal.

There was a time when soft serve became all the rage, and Via Tokyo was there through it all. While I miss the TST location (#1), this Causeway Bay version has a bit of seating and all the Japanese-inspired vibes one can ask for. Like most HK shops, the seating is tight and limited. There are wall-facing counter spots, along with a handful of tables for small groups. The wait is likely during the hot weather days (#2), but the turnover is quick since ice cream is consumed and melts quickly. The staff is young and friendly, doing their best to keep the ice cream coming while helping folks navigate the seating. Cones and cups range for roughly $40-45. The Hokkaido milk is my absolute favorite, smooth and creamy, and reminiscent of some of the ones I've had from Japan. Houjicha and matcha are the more popular items here, which take up a majority of the orders and is especially pretty when made into a bowl with fruits and other sweets. Would highly recommend. Matcha roll didn't have as much flavor as ice cream but still decent. Very efficiently run and quick to receive ice cream after you order.
