It was alright. When the dish was served, I was a bit surprised to see that the noodle had already been tossed in some sort of sesame sauce. Most of the time, I prefer to have the sauces or dressing to my salad/noodles/rice on the side. So I was a bit bummed out to be honest. It tasted a lot like the iconic 'sliced chicken with chilled rice noodle' (雞絲粉皮). Though I found the sauce to be a bit too sweet for me. the sliced whelk, julienned cucumber and pickled vegetable were okay. Overall, I would say it is not bad for the price, and a more refreshing choice for summer. However, I don't think I will order this again. I also tried their steamed vegetable bun which was great. Soft and moist buns, with adequate amount of filling (spinach and mushroom bits). Not too savoury or bland. The spring rolls and fried scallion pancakes were a bit too oily for my liking, so I didn't even bother finishing it. I only had a small sip of the soy milk as I found it to be overly sweet, which I dislike.

Food came out fast and they were delicious. There were policies on the sign before I came. You can enjoy the food for one and half hours maximum. You could get seated if the half of the party were completed. You could use credit card if the bill was over $200 HK dollars. ($25 US dollars) They charged 10% gratuity automatically. We ordered a sweet and sour yellow fish with pine nuts ( fav!!), Xiao lun bao (famous Shanghai soup dumpling ) and a shanghainese fried rice cake ( spicy version). These place is a whole different animal. I would come here pretty often when I would visit my tailor. You can leave very happy and very full for under 120 HKD. If you've never had Shanghai style Dan Dan Noodles then I highly recommend them. Best ones I've had in my seven months in Hong Kong. Also to be recommended are the Shengjian bao and the Xiaolongbao, of course, but for my money you can never beat a good Hongyou Chaoshou, which are admittedly Sichuanese but are still great here. The scallion pancakes are also fantastic. In my (unbearably pretentious) opinion, a good scallion pancake needs to be more like a crisp roti and less like a crispy pizza crust, which is a lesson the scallion pancakesmiths back home in the States could do well to learn. But let's not let me upset myself further. In summary: definitely worth a visit if you're staying in Kowloon and you're here longer than like four days. It's a slightly uncommon cuisine here in HK and even the most insatiable dumpling fiend will be satisfied with the broad selection and reasonable prices.

Review #300 is dedicated to a very special dish - The Drunken Squab…read more "Drunken" poultry is a famous Shanghainese delicacy that is often served as a cold appetizer. Drunken chicken is the most popular dish and is readily available even in the US, especially in areas like the SGV. Drunken squab is a lot more difficult to find in the US. Heck... just any good and fresh (not frozen) squab is hard enough to find in the US. Despite its name, this dish won't make you drunk, as the proper way of preparing it is to boil the wine first before using it as a marinade so that all the alcohol is evaporated, and the wine is properly reduced. Also, boiling the wine with some coarse sea salt and spices greatly enhances its flavor. The drunken squab here at Wu Kong was the best one that I have ever had. Period. The squab itself was fresh and the meat was flavorful. It was perfectly cooked so that the meat was tender. It was marinated perfectly so that the wine enhanced the natural flavor of the meat rather than overwhelming it. The wine was high quality premium stuff - very smooth and gentle to the palate -- and it was reduced properly to produce a rich flavor. This is a squab lover's dream come true. Before I forget... Everything else that we ordered were good. XLB's - They had the largest juice pockets of any XLB's that I've ever had. Each one contained at least one to two large soup spoonfuls of juices. The best way to eat them is to wait for it to cool down a bit (so you won't burn your tongue) and eat it in one bite. If you must take more than one bite, eat it over a small bowl so you won't lose those yummy and precious juices. Fried Dumplings - Also very very juicy. Be careful when you bite into it so that the juices don't squirt out. Scallion Pancakes - They were quite unique and were shaped like a donut rather than the thin pancake style generally found in the US. They were absolutely yummy, pan-fried to golden brown on the outside, moist and slightly chewy inside. Amazing. Cold Noodles - A great idea on a hot summer day! It was beautifully presented with 3 types of shredded meat on top and came with a nice setting of sauces, which included chili paste, a sweet soy sauce, peanut sauce, sesame oil, etc. Shanghainese Chili Stir Fry - Sweet and mildly spicy hot, this could be served with noodles, steamed rice, steamed buns (man tow) or scallion pancakes. Absolutely yummy and authentically Shanghainese! This place is quite expensive ($$$) but I assure you that it's worth every penny. If you decide to open up your wallet and spoil yourself with some of the best Shanghainese cuisine in the World, then this is the place. A solid 5-star experience, even by Hong Kong's high standard of Asian cuisine.

King's Lodge will forever hold a special place in my heart…read more My girlfriend and I visited Hong Kong in April of 2013, and were quickly introduced to King's Lodge by my cousin and aunt who are local to Hong Kong. Little did I know that this singular dining experience would change the way I viewed Chinese cuisine forever. Long story short, my gf (now wife) fell in love with the beautifully presented Peking Duck, which was masterfully carved table side. The meat was succulent, the skin crispy, and everything was so flavorful. My family graciously let us take the left overs home, and at 3am, my wife and I awoke to enjoy our hotel view of Victoria Harbour, watch MTV China, and devour the leftover duck while in bed and sans utensils. Fast forward to 2016, my wife and I return to Hong Kong with one rule: No matter what we do, no matter what we spend, we will eat one meal at King's Lodge every day, and that's what we did. The menu looks condensed compared to before, but there are pictures now which is extremely useful for Westerners and other non-Chinese speaking Asians. The Peking Duck is king here, and for an extra $50HKD, you can get your order of duck served 2 ways. The managers and wait staff recognized my wife and I on our 3rd straight day of coming here. The presentation of the duck can be hit or miss though, depending who is available to carve the duck. Expect to pay $368HKD for a whole order of Peking Duck. The Xiao Long Bao was really good, as were the salted egg fried prawns and vegetables, and rice cakes with XO sauce. My personal favorite besides the duck is the fried radish pastry from the dim sum menu. The pastry is masterfully prepared with a delicious filling of radish and carrot, and is served warm and is extremely flakey - easily the best variation of this dish I've ever had. And to further celebrate the carrot featured in the dish, the order was presented as to look like carrots with little coconut foam garnishes shaped as bunnies. I wouldn't be surprised if there were places in Hong Kong more laurelled for their Peking Duck or other Chinese dishes, but this place will always be a favorite of mine. Pro Tip: Tea service is $6HKD per person during lunch and $12HKD during dinner. Jasmine tea is given as default, but you can ask for other varieties of tea if you can catch your server quickly enough. We had about ten people so we ordered quite a lot. And one that got my attention the most had to be Peking roast duck. It was served on a plate full of crisp and thin skin with little meat. It also came with bowls of cucumber, scallion, sweet sauce and bamboo baskets with pancakes. We grabbed a piece of pancake and put a slice of meat together with other ingredients; then we dipped the sauce (not too much though) and put that straight into our mouths. Heaven. I visited The Dining Room not knowing anything about it. I stumbled across it after seeing a promotion in front for a duck breast with glass noodles special. After entering the restaurant, I noticed a nice dining room that would not seem out of place in Seattle. It has the farm to table restaurant look. The restaurant has an excellent view of the Causeway Bay area. I would recommend getting a table by the windows if you can. Like a child, the menu at The Dining Room is very playful. I was amazed by the plentiful menu options. There are the obvious favorites like xiaolongbao and shengjianbao. But also less typical items, particularly in the desserts section. Some are not even Chinese. Recall there being a Japanese marshmallow dessert on the menu. Tried four things. The aforementioned duck breast with glass noodles, organic Chinese greens (don't know the actual name), an order of shengjianbao and a Jasmine pudding. The duck breast with glass noodles is more of an appetizer. It was delicious, though beware that it is a bit spicy. The Chinese greens which were boiled was a nice veggie option. I have never had them before. It seemed like a cross between lettuce and choy sum. The shengjianbao were as expected tasty. Like xiaolongbao, there is a little soup inside. One order has four pieces which is great since it allows you to order other things. The smaller dish sizes is one nice advantage that The Dining Room has over DTF. Lastly, the jasmine pudding was a nice meal ender. It is creamy and not too sweet. Has a yogurt like consistency. The only thing was that they served the pudding along with the other items. I would have preferred if they waited till I was done with the other dishes first. But that would have meant ordering it later. The food here is reasonably priced, especially given the location. It was a little over $20 USD for lunch even after the 10% service surcharge, which is still less than I would pay at DTF in the Seattle area.
