All you can eat Hot Pot?! Yes, please!
For my boyfriend and I's last night in Hong Kong, we (or well honestly, my sister and brother) decided on hot pot. My cousin suggested Gyu Jin. It's a fairly close walk from where we were staying (Metropark Kowloon) and a close walk from the MTR Mongkok station. We only waited for maybe 10 minutes for a table of 6 on a Saturday night at 7:15 pm. While we were waiting, the waiter let us choose our soup base first. We decided on getting half of the spicy and half of the pork bone brother. The waiter was kind of enough to not charge us extra for getting two soup bases.
We sat down at a longer booth, where there was only one hot pot in the middle. I think for the amount of people we had (6), we should have had 2. It was honestly a little hard to cook everything we wanted because the pot got too crowded to know who had put what in.,
The hot pot buffet is AMAZING. They bring the beef/whatever combo you had selected to the table. And you can keep getting more beef whenever you want. I really enjoyed the cut of meat we got. The buffet had everything we wanted. Veggies, tofu, this awesome tofu/fish thing that had little pockets of cheese in it (my favorite), different noodles, and even rice on the side! They have a little sauce bar (no hoisin sauce, which I normally go for). I got the sesame sauce, threw in some crushed peanuts for texture, and also added some green onion on top. It was delicious!
There's all you can drink cans of soda, and you can ask them to refill the broth as well when you get low. There's also an ice cream bar with 6 or so flavors of Hagen Daas Ice Cream! And the ice cream was excellent, I highly recommend you get some (the caramel cookie crunch is spectacular!)
We were STUFFED by the end of it. My boyfriend was close to throwing up because he ate too much, so do try to pace yourself. It was fairly cheap (in my opinion), about $23 USD per person. And for the amount of food you get, it's worth it. There is however, a 90 minute time limit for your table. And they do give you a 15 minute warning as well. read more
