For all the Indian restaurants in Kowloon (#1), Gaylord is among the longest standing in the TST area. Known as "爵樂" (zoek lok) for the local crowd, they're regarded as a legit option for indian fare. I've been a patron for the better part of the last couple of decades, enjoying their food and overall ambiance. The best way I could describe the ambiance is classy but old school. There is ample seating for HK standards, with comfortable booths, clean bathrooms, and an overall nice decor. Service is usually exceptional: polite, professional, and super accommodating. I personally feel this is their strongest asset. I'm not mad at the food, which is most definitely solid. The presentation is on point and I'd reserve that mainly for their a la carte dishes. The pani puri is fun with the drink, the tandoori chicken is very hearty, and their mixed grill consisting of several kebabs is a treat. I also enjoy their sag paneer, chana masala, and dum aloo. One thing I've always loved is their lunch buffet. Despite being a city filled with numerous indian options (#2), only a handful will offer an all you can eat experience. Their setup changes daily, but I've always enjoyed it. I really liked their veggie pakoras, keema, and paneer anything options. I didn't love their chutneys, garlic naan, or navaratan korma, but one can't win them all. On certain days they have live music here, which is usually traditional music with live vocals with a bhangra dhol + mini drum set. Curry? Yes please! Swung into Gaylord for some delectable treats. The ambiance in here totally chill for a Monday night; the wait staff are attentive and their Indian band adds an extra level of enjoyment (though if you clap for them in the middle of their set they will look at you with the "uhh, stupid gweilo" confused face). I was adventuring with my once-a-week-veggie friend again, and so we sampled many a veggie option. We had a vegetable pakora to start with, which was so so. Moving onto the delicious curries - paneer massala, paneer makhani and a mock duck makhankan (I think that's how it's spelt). The mock duck took home the best of show prize. Delicious, flavoursome and spicy. We complimented this with a couple of butter and garlic naans and my all time favourite palaki pullao; pilau rice and spinach. Honestly. It. Is. Devine. The meat eaters ordered a mixed tandoori to satiate our protein requirements. I wasn't blown away. On the whole, there are some delicious dishes here, but you need to know what they are. It's a great restaurant and I will be back and reorder different items to find the perfect Monday curry combination! It's really hard to find an indian place with REAL authentic indian where it has a nice decor and is someplace you want to sit and have a nice meal in. This restaurant hits the jackpot. From the moment I walked into the restaurant, I was really amazed with how fancy it looked compared to the outside. It just looked really clean (white tableclothes!, ambient decor, but still carrying an authentic Indian style. The service was great too, the staff was very well dressed and it really felt like it was a 5-star hotel experience. I had a lamb dish with a type of bread infused with mint. My friend had a milder mango chicken curry with a different type of bread. I LOVED every bite of everything. Even the mango lassi was great. I would come here again and again. Good Indian restaurant in Kowloon. This place is popular among the expats so I recommend making a reservation on weekends. It's a bit hard to find this place but just follow the sign and go to the 2nd floor. There is a live music entertainment which was interesting and amusing. I have been here at least 3 or 4 times and all times amazing. All visits we were brought here by people from India so this must be the real deal. What I like most about this place is the live music. I would go back just for the music but I go for the food and company. They are very busy all the time and sometimes we have to wait for a while to be seated. I never order the food and everything ordered is amazing. My fave of course is the Nan and Lamb and everything as spicy as possible for me!!! lol.... My son loves the Butter chicken. If your walking this place can be difficult to get to. There is an elevator, which is better nice. Ambiance is quiet, inviting and private. They have a gentelman playing live piano on a keyboard for during dinner. We've had Indian food all over the world. The complimentary popudums are very spicy....similar to a 4 or 5 star curry. Very good, just very spicy. The veggie samosas we're fantastic; crunchy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. The rice and garlic naan were on point. The curry was flavorful but disappointing. We ordered chicken tikka masala which normally has dairy in it, this was definitely a chunky vindaloo. While it was nice, it's not what we anticipated when we ordered. We aren't ones to waste food, good food at that. Asking for another curry was a waste at that point. The restaurant has been around since the 70's and it shows which some wear and tear; but everything was clean, quiet and a nice relaxing place to enjoy a meal with all the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong all around and down below. They has Western style clean bathrooms, which is also a plus. Final note: The staff will stand 5 feet from your table and watch the restaurant for any needs. First time in Hong Kong and this was the first restaurant I tried upon arriving and I'm glad I made the right choice! Curries have a special place in my heart and the paneer makhani and dhingri mutter take the cake. They were so good that every bite was just pure bliss. Got plain basmati and mint pratha as well. Flavors are well-balanced and you can tell that they don't skimp on the spices. We also got the panipuri for starters and that was really refreshing. Probably one of the best meals we had during a two week visit to Hong Kong. Does that say much? As in most restaurants in Hk, you really have to be looking for it to find it... This was my second time here. Food is quite decent but is inherently mild from spices point of view. I ordered Lamb seekh, lamb chops, chicken tikka masala and tardka yellow daal- all was above average. Also ordered kulfi. What a surprise in HK. Was craving for Indian and found it in yelp. Didn't have much review so didn't have high expectation. But it gave me pleasant surprise with fantastic lamb chop. Tandoori lamb chop was superb. Also had prawn vindaloo which wasn't as spicy as I thought but I'm really good with super spicy food so it could be just me. Two other girls I went with had hard time taking 3rd spoon not to mention they were almost teary after 1st spoon. Chicken tika masala was also decent although I wasn't blown away. Garlic naan was alright. I've had better ones. Their garlic naan doesn't have much garlic in them making it very plain. We also ordered spinach dish and it was vert creamy. I usually don't like Indian style veggies as I like veggies crunch and fresh but this mushy creamy spinach was almost like soup and it was very well made. Tons of local people and visitors but the noise level was very low which I also enjoyed after crowded shopping for whole day. Gaylord is a bit of a blessing and a curse. Blessing because it's spicy, flavorful food is some of the better Indian food that I've had in some time. A curse because it's in Hong Kong so that makes a trip to the buffet for lunch absolutely impossible. We were in HK for 2 weeks and we had lunch here twice. I found this Indian place on the internet and they advertised $130 hkd lunch buffet. We got there at 1pm and the place was empty except 1 table. The service was horrible and the food was not much better. They never ask me for another drink or anything. Then they charged my 10% for service, which they provide none. The food was all plain and not much taste. Some of the dishes were cold because I think they did not want to lite the sterno fire under it. The fish tikka had bones in it. Terrible ! When I got the bill they upped the price and when I questioned them they said price just went up last week. Maybe just the gringo price. See photos. I would avoid this place. This place was a total let down. We were made to wait very long and the service was really poor. No one took care of our table properly and our food arrived cold, 30 minutes after our order. Also the biriyani was very underwhelming. It was mushy and lacked flavor. People who came after us got our food and when we asked the server whether that sort of delay was common, he wasn't even apologetic. Overall very disappointed. Excellent Indian food in the heart of Kowloon. We tried a few of their appetizers and enjoyed the Bhel Puri and the Haraa Baraa Kabab. The Prawn Vindaloo is one of their specialties and didn't disappoint. The default setting is plenty spicy! The naans and roti were good. The Batura was decent and the bindi masala was well done. The wines are expensive and they have a limited selection of draft beers. Good idea to call ahead. Service was a bit slower that we would have liked. read more

The best Indian food great quality. Every time I am in town we go there . The bread is excellent and the chicken tandoori is excellent.

The good part is that the ambience is much better than the other Indian restaurants around the area. We had the veg dinner set. For the starters they had hara bhara kabab and veg samosa, which were both a let down. The samosa seemed to have been refried in burnt oil. However for the main course we had paneer, dal makhani and aloo gobi which were all good. The breads were also very nice although the onion kulcha didnt seem to have any onions. I feel the other Indian restaurants have more flavorful food but the ambience was a big plus here. They also have live singers every evening. read more

Happy Diwali everyone! What better way to celebrate the festival of lights than with an Indian buffet with your Indian colleagues! Gaylord's is located in TST, amongst a plethora of Indian restaurants but fortunately, I found the food to perform well against it's competition. For appetizers, I took the deep fried spinach fritters and Samosas. Both held their crisp on the outside without sacrificing any moisture and flavour on the inside. They were not left oily either which made for a great start to the meal. I also took the chicken Tikka which was ok. Bearing in mind it is a buffet, so leaving the chicken in the trays inevitably made it a little on the wet side and unfortunately made it lose some of the charred flavour that I love about chicken tikka. The lamb Seekh Kebab was also well seasoned with spices and not dry in the middle as one might usually expect from minced meat kebabs. For mains, I took the Chicken Do Pyaza which had a mild flavour and good quality meat. The curry was a little watery for my liking (I prefer my curries thicker and heavier), but still held up well with the fragrant saffron Pullao rice. I also took the Paneer Makhani which was awesome! The cottage cheese cubes melted in your mouth while the tomato-y sauce that it was soaked in brought the flavours to life. The Aloo Matar was nothing extraordinary, as you would expect from a potato and pea curry. While we tucked into our first round, the waitresses provided us with generous portions of Naan which soaked up the curry sauces well. They were fluffy in the middle, not too oily and seasoned with herbs and garlic which added another extra layer to each bite. There was also some other curries, like fish curry that I did not have the appetite to try so that will definitely be something that I will be back for! In addition, Korma is usually my go-to curry so upon my return, I hope to see that on offer too. By the time we got to dessert, I was struggling for room after washing down my meal with a mango Lassi. I took a small square of coconut Barfi which was light and crumbled in my mouth. Just when I thought I was done, one of my colleague's friends, who happened to be the son of the owner of the restaurant came over and offered us a box of Gaylord's own-made chocolates. They came in 5 Indian themed flavours (rose, ginger, cardamon, cinnamon and Masala Chai) and was a great way to end our meal. For TST, the venue is well decorated and an OK size, and the range of food to select from hits the spot. Indian food tends to be quite rich and heavy anyway, so any more food to select from, I feel would have been excessive. The service is very attentive and as soon as I finished one plate, it was hastily taken away to be replaced by another. For HKD 135 including a drink, this was well worth the price. I would not call myself a curry connoisseur, but what I can tell you is that I rolled myself back to the office as happy as a clam and as sleepy as a sloth. read more
