Although I kind of felt this was more of an "expensive" outing versus the very inexpensive museums and parks around Hong Kong, this experience with my 7 year old god daughter had the fun factor, the unique factor and the kid factor going for it. We really had kind of a blast!
Bring your fully loaded Octopus card with you (for this is the preferred form of payment outside cash). You use your Octopus card for entry into the facility, payment of skate rental, payment of kid balance/leverage/pushing chair that looks like a dolphin rental, entry on to the actual ice and exit from the facility. Their website outlines all the costs and public open skate times, but it is $10HKD to rent a locker (once you close it, don't re-open it until you are leaving, because it will cost you another $10HKD! - lesson learned the hard way on my part!) and it is $1 a minute basically when you are out there on the ice. The kid balance/leverage/pushing chair thing that looks like a dolphin was $150HKD to rent for two hours plus a $100 refundable deposit. Again, our outing was a bit expensive, but fun!
Tons of kids public skating and part of the ice is reserved for those kids taking lessons. Very friendly environment for kids and families and all skill levels. I saw some teens and couples just skating and enjoying time together while out on what appeared to be a date. Pants and gloves would be preferred as well for the bumps and bruises for those kids or adults that are prone to fall.
I thought this experience was unique in Hong Kong and absolutely kid friendly. It is located inside a mall and close to a Fairwood and other food options that are super close and have options to watch the skaters while you eat. read more
