Food came fast, drinks were refreshing and they gave a lot of longan. Coconut flesh was soft and sweet. Minced pork lettuce wrap was blasting with flavors, probably better if we asked for spicy. Chicken wings were deep fried in light batter, came with a sweet and spicy sauce. Crispy and juicy but a bit too oily for my preference. Morning glory could use a little more salt, it was a good portion. We actually ordered the crab fried rice but got the shrimp fried rice. It was still very good but having some basil would of been nice. Tom yum was delicious! Pot came with fire to keep the soup hot. Staffs were friendly and I would defiantly return!

Not that there are not Thai restaurants in Hong Kong but we stick to this place for a few reasons. We've never made a reservation and even though it's a popular place in Wan Chai, we've always found a table. It's usually packed with big groups of both locals and expats and reservation is recommended if you are planning to go with a group. The space is just 'basic': large room with tables placed all around (ask for a table at the window so you can get a view on the street at least!) and a bar facing the dining space. To me, it feels too nude, too much 'eat and leave'. The service is not especially friendly, they would come, take your order, and come back to serve you without much of an interaction. But they're efficient and even at the times the restaurant was full, we've never had to wait for too long. I've ordered a few things on their menu, the star being their curries. I think between the two of us, we've tried them all and we can't decide which one is best; this is something they do really well. Portions are small though, and unless you order rice on the side, you may not leave with a full belly. Another recommendation, if you like fish, is their steamed fish, that comes with a stove tray and finishes cooking at your table. Their prices are fair, with starters ranging from 50-60 HKD and mains around 70-150, on average. I'm convinced you can find better Thai restaurants in Hong Kong, but this place has the basic to just satisfy anyone: good food, ok service, great location...I'm probably coming back next time I meet up with my friend anyway...

Other restaurant choices seemed overpriced and/or lacking in vegetarian option so Happy Garden won out as our late lunching destination. Now Happy Garden is pretty hole-in-the-wall-y and in fact the front of the restaurant is wall-less, perhaps to offer diners a glimpse of the sandy terrain and mild (on this particular day) waves? The menu is quite a beastly thing, much selection, much overload. Fortunately, the server was able to clarify vegan and veganizable options. This prompted us to you know, order way too much food like the (not-so) secret gluttons we are. Dat yellow curry tho! Turns out the beautiful array of freshly prepared and flavorfully cooked bright vegetables was exactly what my broken body needed. The young coconut water is an absolute must because hello, you're on a beach, and it's cheap and delicious. Come to think of it, this was one of the more affordable feasts we indulged in during our vacay. Ain't nothing like an unpretentious massive meal with close friends to commemorate a stupendous time in and around Hong Kong!

A friend of mine first introduced it to me. She'd been having her take aways there for dinner and suggested we try one day. Since then I have been a regular to this place. In fact it is conveniently located for me, at a corner just at the end of Amoy Street as you come from Hennessy Road. It doesn't look very exciting from outside and even a little run down, but that's part of its charm. The place is run by four lovely Thai ladies whose kitchen is open to the (rather small) dinning space. The dishes come quite quickly but don't expect them to rush to take your order. The atmosphere is laid back. There are around 6 tables that accommodate for twenty people maximum. Now, the thing I go there for is the food...or should I say the curries and the Tom Yum Soup. If you go for curries, I would suggest you try their pork red or chicken green from the dinner menu. They come in big bowls with plenty of meat and vegetables but no rice (I don't eat rice). I assure you it makes for a big meal and it's just delicious. The curries are mild but you can ask them to make them spicier if you like. I would also recommend you go there at the end of the day because I have noticed their sauces taste better then (they might cook them in the morning and let the sauces soak in the flavor of the spices...). Their prices are very reasonable (around 50-60 per curry dish) and they don't have service charge. It's never very crowded, as opposed to the rest of the places on that same street. Their opening times vary, but they close early in the evening. My little Thai is definitely not a place for a fancy dinner or where I would take a date on the first day but more of a local dinning place with tons of charm and it's great value for money. I have only had a better Thai curry and that was recently, at Thai Basil in Pacific Place. I feel like I should write a review about this place too.
