(Snacked 01/05/19 SA @ 4:30pm): Off to the market for some "bubble" aka boba drinks!…read more After a delightful meal at Zen Noodle Café, we saved enough room for boba and headed to Feng Chia Market where we saw many drinks leave this business. Oddly enough, we had only one other boba experience which was in Cambodia. Generally speaking, it wasn't as prevalent as we thought it would be in this part of the world, so we jumped on this last opportunity while stil in the Orient! Would there be an ominous reason why it was so hard to find boba drinks throughout Southeast Asia!? PURCHASE Matcha Green Tea With Red Bean & Boba Large Size (38.00 HKD/4.85 USD): I was influenced by the "new flavor" promotional poster and loved the idea of red beans because it made it sound almost like another favorite dessert of mine...halo halo! Unfortunately, I found many things wrong with this drink such as the lack of any ice (it was at room temperature), the matcha flavor was very powdery and unnatural, the drink itself was very thin without any body or texture, and the combination of boba (which were chewier than I liked) AND red beans was just too much to handle as the various objects bombarded your mouth. Simply, it wasn't a good idea and drink overall...but of course I drank it all https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=y4ZbxA-HbBpPv8YzKrl5AQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw! Milk Tea & Boba Large Size (38.00 HKD/4.85 USD): My friend ordered this simple drink which came with ice unlike mine, had the same boba issue, but the flavor was pleasant and didn't taste fake. I preferred hers over mine... https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=LxQtAmIFfQG0RVlqpMDfjw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. SERVICE An older female kindly greeted us as we entered and was ready to take our order, but we obviously needed some time to review the menu https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=3TTHZLirJCgt4tmwu2nC4Q&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Once we decided, we placed our order, paid, and less than five minutes later our drinks were prepared by the lone person behind in the kitchen and were ready. Talk about efficiency! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance) The two main modes of transportation to Lantau Island was either the cable cars or buses. I honestly couldn't recall any cars but saw parking lots where numerous buses parked, so I imagined there was parking for smaller vehicles, too. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE An ordinary storefront that opened into a predominantly grey-colored tile interior, an area with minimal indoor seating (only a few tables and chairs), a medium-length order counter that peered into the kitchen, legible menus posted both above the counter and as a poster at the front, and various condiments, cutlery, etc. placed on the counter. Plenty of natural lighting came in through the large front glass windows while standard electric ceiling light fixtures covered the rest. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Feng Chia Market disappointed me with their boba drinks and couldn't say I'd try them again; however, their food might be a different story, so I didn't want to completely be negative. Although the prices were high, the service was good to go. I found good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around 76.00 HKD/9.70 USD BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 3.0 STARS

I love eating meat. A meal without meat is usually a sad meal for me. However, I heard that Po Lin…read moreMonastery has really amazing vegetarian food. I was skeptical that I could be blown away, but I decided to give it a try. I am so glad that I did. Indeed, I was blown away. The food was so fresh, flavorful, delicious, and affordable. There is a restaurant and a cafe. The restaurant offers a set menu while the cafe has dim sum and snack items. I got in the cafe line, which moved quickly, and ordered a bowl of three different flavors of seitan, a dumpling, a piece of turnip cake, a piece of mango agar, and a cup of mango sago. There is only outdoor seating, and I found myself a seat at an empty table and enjoyed the nice weather and temple scenery. It was my first meal of the day. I started off so hungry, and I ended up so full. You can either climb the steps of the Tian Tan Buddha first and then reward yourself with delicious food once you get back down, or you can stuff yourself with food and then burn off those calories climbing up and down the steps. I did the latter since I was so hungry, and then I spent a lot of time walking around the temple grounds to continue burning off those calories.

It was a great cleanse meal to detox from all the other food we've been eating in the city haha. Warning: the meals come with a ton of food so I think ordering the set meal for 1 less than the number of people in your party should be good. You have to buy the meal tickets at the booth outside the restaurant before entering. Prices are kind of expensive in my opinion but the taste and amount of food make up for it.

Most everyone knows them as their far less interesting and awkward (#1) name, "Tasty Congee and Noodle Wantan Shop." For a good decade and then some, this place was complete chaos: long lines, service mishaps, and inconsistent food. SInce the self order kiosks were introduced years and the recent expansion of the East Hall seating, thus resulting in a much more organized experience. Wonton noodles have always been one of their best options. It's been a morning / lunch staple and a sure thing for first timers. Their congee has been excellent a majority of the time, along with somes solid stir fried options from noodles to shrimp and egg. They also have beef brisket, Where they suffer a bit is with the Chinese BBQ (siu mei), in which it's lacking severely, which doesn't fare well given its the priciest item. If one is desperate for goose and bbq pork, this may work in a pinch. Don't bother with the Hainanese chicken. Trust me. Like all things at the airport, it's a bit overpriced. The kiosks accept all major forms of payment and is far more English friendly than ever. While coming to the airport really hungry should always be avoided (#2), there are more convenient options than ever. ___________ (#1) Grammatically anyway. (#2) Even lounge food is rarely excellent. Eat before arriving.

Airport food courts are rarely places you go for the food itself, and while the original location…read moremight be good, the airport location is just okay. Won ton noodle soup is pretty bog-standard, which to be fair in Hong Kong means it's actually pretty decent. Char siu won't win any awards, with the slices at this location seemingly extra small, but again it's more than acceptable enough for an airport. And the roast goose, while nice enough, was more bones and skin than anything else. Made me wonder just how small the goose was! Still, of all the fast casual Chinese restaurants inside Terminal 1 of Hong Kong International Airport, I find I come here the most. The fast service and the quality are just enough to keep me coming back, especially when time is tight.

Tai O Fishing Village. Quaint little fishing village on Lantau Island…read more Fishermen's homes are on stilts on the water. You can take a mini boat ride to view the homes up close. Lots of stalls/vendors selling dried seafood, fish balls, etc. for the tourists. As we were leaving, we saw a sign for a pink dolphin tour! Can't get any more touristy than that, but it still sounds like it would be cool if you could actually spot a few pink dolphins. Maybe next time...

To get to Tai O, you need to take the MTR to Central, then change to the Tung Chung line and go all the way there. Then take the #11 bus (45 min ride) or 30 min taxi (running HK$180 to $200) one way. And voila...food, glorious food, and snacks galore, after some walking and exploring. 肥妹燒烤小食 (Fei Mui, or Chubby little sister) is a small eatery that is difficult to miss once you wander into the area. Just look for the signage, but more importantly, someone grilling shellfish galore, smothered in garlic, or cheese, or just a very simple marination like soy sauce or salt/pepper. The smell alone will entice you to come over. Loss of willpower will lead you to just walk into the eatery, grab a stool and start ordering. Don't know what to get? Grilled prawn - HK$35 each (with garlic or cheese) Grilled abalone - HK$40 each Baked oyster with cheese - HK$20 each Grilled scallop on the shell - HK$35 each Sea snails in spicy sauce - HK$45 per plate. This is typical dai pai dong/HK style "izakaya" beer food and of course, cheese baked/grilled lobster - HK$160 each Best bets: grilled prawns (with garlic), abalone, and scallops. Eat like a king (or a mayor) in the village on the cheap! (Dude, we are not in Sendai or Aomori Japan, where you buy fresh seafood off the vendors and take it to the eatery to grill with butter, the quality is not the same here obviously).
