To: Conrad Hong Kong or anyone heading there: Please read…read moremy personal appeal at the bottom of this review and help make this place a nut-friendly restaurant. Thanks! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was so excited to try the Fried Crispy Chicken. Made a reservation to make sure I get to lunch here during my stay. (Note: Reservation is definitely a must if you want to get in here since the restaurant is often fully booked). Staffs were hospitable. The hostess sat us down and we started to look through the beautiful menus. After placing our order, we suddenly realized we forgot to mention one of us was allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. I said I would check with them when the staff came with our first order. Shortly, a staff came with two of our dim sum orders. I mentioned to her one of us has a peanut and tree nut allergy. I was taken aback when the staff informed us the restaurant uses peanut oil. I was like what? Peanut oil? I mean nowadays which restaurant solely uses peanut oil?. The staff said to let her checked with the kitchen. The hostess also came to our table and said she would go check with the chef too. Sadly, she came back and informed that the steamed shrimp dumplings has fillings marinated with a bit of peanut oil, the fried turnip carrot was fried with peanut oil. The roasted meat and Shallow Fried Crispy Chicken we ordered would contain peanut oil as well. By this time we knew we could not dine here. It just was not fair. Those of us who have no problem with peanut, quickly ate the dim sum (I would rate them later below). I must say, the staffs were extremely apologetic. They even offered to stir fry some vegetables and steamed some seafood for us. Unfortunately, we really wanted all of us to have the same dining experience. FOOD - 5/5 Steamed Shrimp Dumplings w/ Gold Leaf 5/5 The skin was thin and the fillings was fresh and tasty. The gold flakes? They did not do anything to me, but this is definitely an elevated shrimp dumplings ;D Pan-fried Turnip Cake with Fresh Scallops & Pork Floss 5/5 Generously topped with pork floss. The turnip cake was so soft and absolutely delicious. AMBIENCE 5/5 Really pretty with nice décor. They even have a side table which one could put their purse. This is what a 5 star Chinese restaurant should be. SERVICE 5/5 Staffs here were attentive and really understanding when we canceled the rest of our order. I am sure they have already prepared or were in the midst of preparing our food. I would be more than happy to pay for the rest of the orders if they told me we could not cancel them. They were so gracious about it. To Conrad Hong Kong/Golden Leaf or anyone visiting this restaurant, I really hope the restaurant would consider not using peanut oil and replaced with vegetable or canola oil. I have been to many fancy restaurants which do not use peanut oil so I do not see what would be the problem. I am sure the skill of the chef would not be affected by what type of oil he uses.

I went for dinner and as I was solo, I opted for their prix fixe set menu- the "premium" set. In my opinion, the food was lacking in taste and quality despite the high price. Maybe I should have ordered individual dishes, but even their signature baked crab dish was too creamy and salty. Service was also lacking in my mind. The waiters seemed unenthusiastic and often would place the next dish without a word or a simple phrase like "dessert" without any additional comments or explanation... and often had a tense or unfriendly expression. It was also difficult to get their attention as they were often times hard to locate. Yes this is Hong Kong, but this is not a cha chaan teng, and i guess I expected a bit more quality in service and food from a former michelin starred restaurant.

This time it was hot, humid, and rainy around 11:20 am and our party of 4 was able to get a table easily though it was crowded again once we were finished. This place is so famous we saw people come straight from the airport with all their luggage! Portions are very good and probably too small for most people but I loved the size. Goose and Soy Sauce Chicken: They are most known for their roast goose which has a complex and layered seasoning different than other HK roast duck/goose places. This is my go to dish, this time it tasted great but my portion of goose was super small and I split it with a friend to not get too full so it was even smaller. We also ordered the same dish with noodles and roast pork with soy chicken, both the people who had this never had Yat Lok before and totally cleared their plates, don't forget to mix each bite with some of the oil scorched green onions!

So yeah, being that I don't speak Cantonese, it seemed to annoy them. But we managed to communicate anyway, mainly by me pointing at pictures on the wall and them replying to me in Cantonese like I would magically understand despite clearly not being able to speak it. The beef flank rice is a large meal. And it's delicious. And it comes with a seaweed soup (which they somehow managed to get across to me after I mentioned that I wanted to order a side of seaweed soup--I thought this was very nice of them, bc they could've easily just charged me for the soup anyway and leave me with two orders of it). The wonton is noodle soup is great, just as you would expect. I will definitely come back.

The pretense is non-existent and locals (including myself!) seem to love it here. So like many noodle spots in HK, this place is fairly small. No big tables for 5+ but quite a few small'ish round tables that are good for solo eats or the invaluable food companion. The aroma coming from the semi-open kitchen should be enough inspiration for folks to know what they want upon arrival, but just in case they have the menus outlined along the wall. An easy way to start? Try a wonton and beef brisket with your choice of noodles. The wontons are somewhat pillowy in texture and full of flavor while the beef brisket is braised well while maintaining a perfectly chewy bite. The noodle variety is good, with egg / rice noodles winning over the crowd though I feel the e-fu noodles take the cake. Lastly, do not sleep on the beef tendon. It's practically butter when done right. Chui Hing does fancy itself as a HK style cafe, so other dishes like congee, fried fish skin, fried rice, may appear on the menu, focus on what to stack in your bowl instead. The staff is really helpful and welcoming.

We were greeted by each staff member we came across as we made our way to our table. The hospitality was unreal. My husband commended the staff for being so friendly. That friendliness lasted throughout our meal. The sommelier helped my husband choose a wine and came up with some fun drinks for our kids. The restaurant is dimly lit and has a mirrored ceiling. I really liked the red velvet booths. The restaurant had a very cool lounge vibe. The restaurant has great cocktails so get started with one of those. We had a good bottle of wine too so you'll be fine either way. For food we ordered the following: Salt & pepper tofu Prawn toast Dim sum platter - crab, veggie, and chicken Roast meat platter - chicken and pork char siu Seasonal green - pea shoot leaves with garlic Egg fried rice Wok fried noodles My favorites were the salt & pepper tofu, veggie dumpling, pork char siu, pea shoots leaves, and fried rice. The pork char siu was my absolute favorite. If given a second chance, we all agreed, we would order a full platter of just the pork. A half platter wasn't enough. I'm still salivating thinking about it. Make sure you visit this restaurant. It was so amazing. Make reservations because it's always busy.

The bathroom was also super weird, narrow and awkward and so dark that you can't see anything. Of the 2 stalls only one of them had toilet paper in a little roll that wasn't even properly attached to the toilet paper holder. The overall vibe is loud, "club-like," and kind of ratchet, there was a table quite far away from us but the customers were so clearly drunk and loud that the entire restaurant could hear them. We haven't even gotten to the food-- which was below average all around. We had pre-ordered the typhoon crab in advance and it was very expensive, was so over-seasoned, and the crab was not fresh at all. The bbq roast pork (char siu) was okay but incredibly oily and we couldn't finish it. The only passable entree was the fish, but even that was just a steamed fish and nothing to write home about. The service was okay, nothing spectacular but polite enough. The other nice thing was that we got these cute little mah jong desserts and I liked that the outside wall of the restaurant was decorated in mah jong pieces. But overall, this restaurant was my least favorite during our Hong Kong trip and it's just overhyped.

It's a well recognized, popular place in central Hong Kong, located by Victoria Harbour. I had heard about this place from before visiting Hong Kong. Tim Ho Wan, which is a one Michelin star rated famous dim sum place, was at the top of my list for Dim sum but we couldn't make time for it based on our sight seeing itinerary. When we got here, there was a wait but the line was moving fast. You have to mention to the front door receptionist about how many people you have in your party and you get a number. Once your number is called, you get seated. Once seated, a server comes and places plates and silverware and offers you water and tea. Tea is complimentary. I have heard that some places in hong kong charge you for tea while you are under the impression that it's complimentary. The way it works for ordering dim sum items here is that servers constantly are around pushing carts full of variety of food items. You with flag them down or when they come by your table area, you tell them what and how much you want of the foods they have on their cart. There's a list of items on the side of the cart to tell you what all they have in that cart. Once you are given what you wanted, the server marks on your bill what you got and how much of it. Later, you take that bill to the cashier and pay. We ate a lot of variety of foods. Dumplings, buns, fried rolls, roasted pork pieces, and mango oriented dessert items. It was all delicious and good. We loved it. It was worth the visit. This place is good for anyone (locals and tourists). It's in a nice setting. The restaurant room looks like a banquet hall room with white cloth tables, chandeliers and servers in uniforms. Go check this place out. I highly recommend it. It's worth eating their dim sum because it's really tasty and good.

It's a classic Dim Sum place with both ordered food and carts that go around. The food is a mixed bag -- for instance, the pig blood wasn't fresh and the chicken feet wasn't steamed tender enough, but the Chang fun and dumplings were wonderful.
