Okay, so I thought gui ling jelly was the same as herbal jelly... turns out, it's not. In the U.S., they pretty much treat them like the same thing, but as I sat down at this tiny two-seat table, I quickly learned: gui ling jelly is made with turtle shell and herbs and is usually eaten for its health benefits.
I had a sore throat from too much fried food, so my friend suggested we try some. I ordered the gui ling jelly and also the gui ling tea. First bite of the jelly I was like, wait, this is way firmer than regular jelly... and wow, this is BITTER. I had to add quite a bit of sugar syrup to make it enjoyable, but once I found the right balance, it was actually not bad. The tea was much milder and easier to drink.
It was a cool experience overall. If I'm ever feeling yeet hay again (aka that overheated feeling from eating greasy stuff), I'd totally come back.
They have two turtles chilling at the front and these giant pots where they make the jelly. The staff were really nice too.
Definitely worth trying at least once. read more
