I asked for more pressure but it didn't seem much different. The prices were slightly higher than the other massage establishments in the area so maybe my expectation was a little higher. I have to admit I wasn't expecting much from Thai Zone; a newish massage spot on the second floor in the Rose Mansion amid the chaos of TST, but it was what I was hoping for: clean, affordable, authentically Thai, and above all, very satisfying. This area of Kowloon is fairly dodgy, but surprisingly Thai Zone's facilities are anything but. The floors were redone and super shiny, the odor in the room had this tart incense like aroma, and the massage chairs were comfy. The owner, Murphy was quick to greet with a cup of Thai tea, which was lukewarm fruity blend of something wonderful. By the end of my session, I had no less than 10 mini cups of it. I think I could drink it all day. We started off with a change into flexible pajamas and then a 45 minute foot massage, which was done by one of the Thai masseuses. While grinding the gears of my feet, she was able to converse in a variety of languages, which was mighty impressive. I won't lie, the foot and subsequent leg massage was incredibly intense to where I had to bite a towel for a minute or two, but I was assured this was normal and supposedly better for loosening up the muscles. The rule of thumb is to bear the pain and embrace the comfort after the fact. Then it was off to the races with the back/body massage. I was always used to Thai massages being conducted on a floor mat than a massage bed, but it didn't matter: She got me in poses that would make any yoga warrior proud. The one that provided the most relief was one where her feet were on my back, her arms were pulling my arms and soon my back responded with a series of clicks that were chiropractor worthy. There were moments where I nearly fell asleep. It's only a matter of time before I visit this gem again, especially when the joints are feeling stiff and the knots are invading again. HK$100 for a 45 minute foot massage? HK$120 for a full body?! I'd seen places in Causeway Bay that charge HK$200 or more for also a 45 min foot massage. My only way to find out was to try out! Our friend recommended us this massage place after we finished a grueling obstacle race. He had done two full body massages (90 minutes) and a foot massage (45 minutes) for HK$340. He claimed it was the best massage he went to in HK. The next day my friend and I called in to make an appointment. They speak both Mandarin and Cantonese, and a little bit of English if you don't speak Chinese (just say "foot" or "body" and you'll be fine). I requested two foot massages, to take place concurrently, in the same room (turns out you're all in the same "room", with divided rooms for full body massages). Because they didn't have enough masseuses, they asked us if we could do alternate foot and body and switch after 45 minutes. I said sure. Then my friend said she didn't want to do the body massage and called it to change to foot. They were very accommodating and accepted our request. When we got to Wan Chai, along Johnston Road, the location was not too hard to find. Once you reach 220 Johnston Road, there are bright purple signs advertising 足康樂. Enter through the street door and take the stairs up to the first floor where you will see the entrance to 足康樂. Ring the bell and a staff will let you in. The massage staff were very friendly, we spoke to them in a mix of Cantonese and Mandarin, more the latter towards the end, as the staff were from China (some from Sichuan, some from Guangdong, very diverse!). My masseuse was able to pin point all the tight points and knots in my upper back and shoulders. Even cracked my back and it was so loud, she even said "You have an old person's back!" Haha! For the leg and foot, she used unscented oil to massage out any sore points in my muscles. In the end, we opted for a foot and body massage, HK$220 per person. VERY GOOD DEAL! I will be back! Things to note: 1. If you want a full body massage, be sure to call in advance and reserve a time so that they can allot a room for you. 2. They offer free wifi and water/tea! 3. Opening hours are: 10:00am to 12 midnight or (00:00), NOT 12 noon. Their business cards and signs might be a little confusing, I asked them to verify and they indeed meant 12pm NIGHT TIME.
