If you use WhatsApp, add their number +852 5661 8550 and you can make your reservation using the app. Great for travelers who didn't get a local SIM. When I walked in, the friendly receptionist gave me a pair of slippers (I don't care for these disposable slippers, but that's another story) and was led to the room to change into the Thai cotton outfit. I booked a 90 traditional Thai massage. If you are not familiar with the style, it's a little like acupressure, with a lot of pressing down motion instead of kneading and rubbing. What set it apart is how they twist and pull your limbs around, kind of like a lazy man's version of yoga but also reminiscent of a school yard bullying. Not the type of massage where you can doze off. In fact, I suspect you need a masochistic streak to enjoy Thai massage. My masseuse, who is from Thailand, diligently worked on loosening my knots, and I had a good time. Well, as good a time as I can have with someone pulling my arms while stepping on my thigh... The place is nicely decorated, in dark purple and mahogany. The doors are made with latticed wood that looks well worn in a nice, antique way, like they brought it in from some old houses. (you can see pics on their website) It really set me into a relaxed mood. When I finished my massage and walked back into the lobby, my pair of shoes are there, waiting for me already! For my massage, the 90 min is $408 but they offer a first-timer discount on ZoneOneZone, and I was able to get a discount rate of $376 just by mentioning it.

Everyone loves a good massage. The ultimate for me is a Thai Yoga massage, where limbs are bent,…read moreall corners of the body are stretched, and the relief from the intensity is second to none. I have to admit I wasn't expecting much from Thai Zone; a newish massage spot on the second floor in the Rose Mansion amid the chaos of TST, but it was what I was hoping for: clean, affordable, authentically Thai, and above all, very satisfying. This area of Kowloon is fairly dodgy, but surprisingly Thai Zone's facilities are anything but. The floors were redone and super shiny, the odor in the room had this tart incense like aroma, and the massage chairs were comfy. The owner, Murphy was quick to greet with a cup of Thai tea, which was lukewarm fruity blend of something wonderful. By the end of my session, I had no less than 10 mini cups of it. I think I could drink it all day. We started off with a change into flexible pajamas and then a 45 minute foot massage, which was done by one of the Thai masseuses. While grinding the gears of my feet, she was able to converse in a variety of languages, which was mighty impressive. I won't lie, the foot and subsequent leg massage was incredibly intense to where I had to bite a towel for a minute or two, but I was assured this was normal and supposedly better for loosening up the muscles. The rule of thumb is to bear the pain and embrace the comfort after the fact. Then it was off to the races with the back/body massage. I was always used to Thai massages being conducted on a floor mat than a massage bed, but it didn't matter: She got me in poses that would make any yoga warrior proud. The one that provided the most relief was one where her feet were on my back, her arms were pulling my arms and soon my back responded with a series of clicks that were chiropractor worthy. There were moments where I nearly fell asleep. It's only a matter of time before I visit this gem again, especially when the joints are feeling stiff and the knots are invading again. Lastly, call ahead of time for 10pm or later visits and be sure to bring cash as they don't accept credit card yet. A little gratuity never hurts for the masseuses and drink all the tea that you can!

That said, there are a lot of bad ones and I'm kind of fed up with how unprofessionals some are: unclean places, masseuses who chit chat with one another or on the phone, and masseuses who mistake brute strength with skill. When I learned that Eden is operated by Japanese, I figured this is a good sign. Afterall, Japanese management still mean something. You definitely notice the difference: the courtesy and care of the staff is top notch. The place opened just this past December, so everything is new and clean. I was offered a tea, and the nice gentleman explained the menu while I sipped on some complementary Japanese tea (which I picked from a menu.) I was offered a HK$100 discount as first timer. I figured as this is a Japanese place I should try the shiatsu massage. Both the gentleman and my masseuse later confirmed it's the choice to go with. My masseuse, Yoshiko, is from Japan and speaks Mandarin too, though no Cantonese. Actually I think her Mandarin is better than mine, and of course her Japanese. With a mesh of both languages we managed to communicate well enough. She is very skilled and caring, and really worked on where I need it. Overall it was a great experience, highly recommend this place, especially if you don't want to try your luck with other random places.

Greeted by a soft spoken gentleman with a price list of menu ranging from $260 - $500 massage selections. We selected $260 that has 50 minutes foot massage and 10 minutes for neck and shoulder. The place is small, but all chairs (6 -8) were occupied. In the back, there are probably two massage tables for full body massage. We waited awhile for them to call in two masseurs. Al least the place has free wifi we could use while waiting. The massage was excellent, she did not ask for the strength but it was powerful enough that I wanted to scream. It felted like a deep pressure massage from neck, should and leg that sent tingling sensation to all nerves. It is worth of return when time permits and highly recommended.

The basics: ME: a person with horrible posture who spends 40-60 hours-a-week looking at a computer screen or walking around with a heavy camera rig strapped to my body. I've been in physical therapy for both a bad knee and excruciating shoulder pain. THIS PLACE: recommended by two colleagues, one a Hong Kong resident, the other a frequent visitor to the city. THINGS TO KNOW: This place is open 12:00PM to 6:00AM. Men and women are on two separate floors. They take credit cards and you can add the tip to the credit card. You can order food and drink if you choose. The location is fitted with a sauna and a steam room. The bathroom has all the toiletries needed to shower and get ready after your massage. The lockers are programmed to open with a key and a remote button sequentially for added safety. I had two massages here, one week apart: FIRST: 90-minute full body massage, priced higher because it was before 10:00PM. HK$596 = US$77 (with tax and tip) SECOND: 45-minute full body massage, priced lower because it was after 10:00PM. HK$340 = US$44 (with tax and tip) Both massages started with a middle-aged female masseuse in a pink uniform climbing up on my back and walking all over it. Both of them asked me if I wanted it soft or hard. In both instances I said hard. They both seemed to know what my problem areas were because both of them immediately honed in on my neck and shoulder blades. From here on, my description is for the first, longer massage -- As my masseuse worked one foot over my entire back while using the other for balance, I felt individual discs in my spine click back into place. Halfway through the session, she piled a heap of warm towels over my back to keep it relaxed before sitting down to work out the knots in my feet. Then she asked me to turn over and continued to massage my legs, my arms and finally my scalp. When the massage was over, she smiled sweetly and said, "You like massage. You give good tip." After that she led me back to the shower area where I first went to the sauna and then took a shower. When all was said and done, I tipped her more than 20% because she did a fantastic job. At this point if you're wondering why I gave Sunny Paradise Sauna four instead of five stars, let me explain. My second massage was similar to my first one, but maybe not as hard. She still massaged my whole body but because it was the shorter session, I didn't get my foot or my scalped massaged for 10 minutes each. The reason why this place isn't getting top marks is because my second masseuse was very pushy about the tip and would not let me exit the room without a tip sheet where she had marked up what the tip should be. That annoyed me off a little. Even though my second massage wasn't as fantastic as the first one, I would have tipped her the same percentage as the first masseuse if she hadn't been so aggressive. All that said, if I ever return to Hong Kong, I will most definitely revisit this place and I highly recommend it. So here are my tips on conquering this place: - Go after 10:00PM for the cheaper rates. - Bring as little stuff with you as possible so you don't have to lug back things after all the kinks in your body have been worked out. - Locate the price list on display and show the black-and-white uniform clad hostess the session you want. - Take a photo of the price list. - Splurge and get the 90-minute massage; it's worth the HK$596 = US$77 (with tax and tip). - As soon as you meet the masseuse, say "90-minute full body massage" and show her the item on the photo you took. - Specify whether you want a soft or a hard massage. - If you have problem areas and want to absolutely make sure she doesn't miss them, point them out. - If you have the misfortune of getting a pushy masseuse who wants to give you a marked up tip sheet, just take it. When you're at the counter, you can tell them what tip you want to add. Website: http://sunnyparadise.iyp.hk/

HK$100 for a 45 minute foot massage? HK$120 for a full body?! I'd seen places in Causeway Bay that charge HK$200 or more for also a 45 min foot massage. My only way to find out was to try out! Our friend recommended us this massage place after we finished a grueling obstacle race. He had done two full body massages (90 minutes) and a foot massage (45 minutes) for HK$340. He claimed it was the best massage he went to in HK. The next day my friend and I called in to make an appointment. They speak both Mandarin and Cantonese, and a little bit of English if you don't speak Chinese (just say "foot" or "body" and you'll be fine). I requested two foot massages, to take place concurrently, in the same room (turns out you're all in the same "room", with divided rooms for full body massages). Because they didn't have enough masseuses, they asked us if we could do alternate foot and body and switch after 45 minutes. I said sure. Then my friend said she didn't want to do the body massage and called it to change to foot. They were very accommodating and accepted our request. When we got to Wan Chai, along Johnston Road, the location was not too hard to find. Once you reach 220 Johnston Road, there are bright purple signs advertising 足康樂. Enter through the street door and take the stairs up to the first floor where you will see the entrance to 足康樂. Ring the bell and a staff will let you in. The massage staff were very friendly, we spoke to them in a mix of Cantonese and Mandarin, more the latter towards the end, as the staff were from China (some from Sichuan, some from Guangdong, very diverse!). My masseuse was able to pin point all the tight points and knots in my upper back and shoulders. Even cracked my back and it was so loud, she even said "You have an old person's back!" Haha! For the leg and foot, she used unscented oil to massage out any sore points in my muscles. In the end, we opted for a foot and body massage, HK$220 per person. VERY GOOD DEAL! I will be back! Things to note: 1. If you want a full body massage, be sure to call in advance and reserve a time so that they can allot a room for you. 2. They offer free wifi and water/tea! 3. Opening hours are: 10:00am to 12 midnight or (00:00), NOT 12 noon. Their business cards and signs might be a little confusing, I asked them to verify and they indeed meant 12pm NIGHT TIME.
