If you had had any experience with foot massage places, you'll probably find that most of them are…read moremuch of a muchness, with the quality depending mainly on the masseuse that you have that day, rather than anything else. Foot Spa Garden is one of those venues, which is very much like all the other foot massages places. It is a perfectly nice place to have a foot massage, with perfectly well skilled masseurs. However, what elevates Foot Spa Garden from the crowd, is that it is a very nice venue. It is quite new, only 18 months old, so it's probably so it hasn't suffered from the foot traffic (haha, see what I did there) that some of the other foot massage places have seen. This means, the venue is still clean and well maintained. Inside the spa, there are a number of small nooks with only 2 to 4 chairs in each. There isn't the large living room deal with twenty massage chairs all crammed in, which means that you feel very secluded and private. The downside is, these nooks can make you feel like you are sitting in a corridor, but that may just be my personal feeling. Foot Spa Garden is more expensive then many of the more local style foot massage places at HKD294 for 75 mins. In fact, it is nearly double the cost of the joints on Caine Road. Is it worth paying so much more for a slightly more pleasant environment? I'm not sure. The massage is nearly identical, in terms of the skill of the masseur, and the service offered; foot bath, massage, Shanghai pedicure. I just don't think that it is twice as good.

You are then led off to change into their shorts and slippers, and lockers where you can put away your belongings. The massage room is dimly lit, and relatively quiet: it's a communal room so some low noise is unavoidable, and even some loud snores, lol. After the massage, you are invited to spend as much time as you like in their little tea room, which is decked up to look like the last century, sipping tea of small tea cups. Unfortunately, the massage does not live up. The masseuse does not seem to have a clue how to spend that much time with a pair of feet, and all she did is to rub them up and down, up and down... It does not hurt, but does not relax much either. If you want to just spend an hour or two away from the hustle and bustle on the streets above, just to rest your feet and take a nap even, this is not a bad choice. But if you are looking for serious massage, skip this gimmicky tourist trap and go elsewhere.

This was a fantastic foot massage experience. Professional, welcoming, meditative, tranquil,…read morerelaxing, boutique spa feeling. It smelled absolutely lovely, there was a smiling welcoming face behind the registration desk when we stepped off the elevator into the calming, dimly lit lobby area ...all the touch points of a great spa experience. You pay for the experience of all these great customer service points (price was $360HKD, just feet, short a little tip....50 minutes), but if you are looking for just feet and not the "experience of tranquility," I am certain you could find it less expensive elsewhere. Wrapped up in the cost is an unspoken level of experience. Let it also be said that this is my first foot massage in Hong Kong and thus my bar of expectation has been raised. I have had countless reflexology treatments in the US, but it is just not the same to the real deal you can get in Hong Kong. My husband says that compared to this, I will be dissappointed with the esthetic, feeling and atmosphere of other massage spots in Hong Kong, but maybe not disspointed with the actual service. We did not have an appointment and had to wait for about ten minutes for both my husband and I to be taken on a Sunday afternoon. We were in a communal room with eight other chairs, although they do have private rooms for parties or just solo stuff I suppose. Rooms and chairs are tastefully decorated...wood, tile, cream colors, dim light, clean. They were completely full and room was busy, but still respectfully quite, tranquil and relaxing. After a short neck and upper back massage that is simply part of the routine to their foot massage experience, I found my esthetician to be brutal and beautiful. I suppose I prefer a foot massage that really digs in there and works things out versus fluffy rubbing. I am certain she would have taylored it back in the pressure had I asked, but it was great. She had good kneeding thumbs and fingers to really work on my feet and calves. She was good at her craft...it was clearly not her first rodeo! They have healthy drinks you can purchase and also have pedicure options. Another thing I noticed...everyone is in the company uniform, so you notice the corporate culture touch through the uniformity of look. I really enjoyed my experience at Ten Feet Tall and look forward to returning. You feel so good upon leaving, the question on tipping becomes a question in my American head (we tip the US...we just do...it is a custom...)...it was such a good experience, I just want to give them a tip. This was the only question and topic of debate in my head upon departure.

Sure, it's pricier than Happy Foot, or other foot massage places in the area, but I'm coming here for more than a rub down. I want to feel relaxed and spend the next 50, 75, or 100 minutes in a tranquil environment. The common area rooms here are just as good as the private rooms, so don't waste your money on that. There's free wifi and a nice juice menu. They also offer "happy hour" specials (discounts on foot massages during downtime hours) during the week, so take advantage!

They have great prices and the Thai massages are amazing. I don't have a specific therapist because they all do a really good job. Each therapist has their own style. Some of them do a lot of stretching with you while others do more deep massage. Every time I walk out this place I'm satisfied I always think, "Man, that was a good massage. I should come more often." I've also gotten a foot massage and an oil body massage here. The foot massage was relaxing, but I prefer the foot reflexology massages here in Hong Kong. The oil body massage was also just ok. Thai massage is their specialty, so that is what the therapists do best. This is not a fancy place, but the massages are top notch. Upon entering you have your choice of cold or hot water. There are menus up of different massage positions, so you can request your favorites if you'd like. I've also gone in after long hikes and requested just leg work and they were very accommodating. Sometimes it can be a bit chatty and you can hear music bumping from the bar downstairs, but this doesn't bother me too much, and I've even fallen asleep a few times. *The English spoken here is limited, so if you have any special requests, its best to speak with the manager when you first arrive.

When I went in they were all Thai people. I asked them if they really knew how to do a Chinese massage. They assured me they did. After getting properly set up on the bed, this lady comes in and starts to 'massage' me. It was brutal. No technique, and she was jumping all over my body like she didn't have a clue. I actually had to direct her where and how to massage me. Finally she admitted she had never done a Chinese style massage before. I was so upset because they lied. I told her to stop because my body started to feel sore. She said she would find another lady to service me. The second lady came up with this half-assed story of how she was half-Thai, half-Chinese. Same drill; she also didn't know what she was doing. I stopped the massage and told them I was leaving. Here's the kicker: a full massage costs 160HKD, and they wanted to charge me 120HKD for half an hour's work. I replied I would pay them 60HKD because I was feeling charitable. They starts acting all offended when I quickly reminded them they flat-out lied about knowing how to do a Chinese massage. Then to top it off, they showed me the door and told me I was lucky their manager wasn't there. I'm 6'2" 220 lbs so I wasn't worried. But my body actually felt worse leaving than before I'd arrived. Avoid this place at all costs.
