Picture this: a starving American walking aimlessly around Nathan/TST area looking for a simple Cantonese restaurant to order takeout from. It's HK- should be ready right?...
It's a shame that the area surrounding TST is becoming more and more gentrified over the years. I used to be able to find food stalls and small mom and pop shops around here, but so many of them have disappeared in favor of higher end shopping. However, a couple of them still remain to serve up some good Cantonese food in the middle of the day, and that's what Guangdong BBQ has to offer.
The menu here offers a lot of what you would find in most Cantonese restaurants. You've got the selection of BBQ meats hanging by the window, and a lot of noodles and rice dishes. It wasn't hard for me to decide on ordering a simple Roast Pork over Rice for lunch. At a price of HK$44, it's hard to beat that given the area's developments.
As a whole, the meal was pretty good, but nothing mind blowing. They give you a good amount of meat, some kai-lan (Chinese broccoli), and drizzle everything with a sweet soy sauce. The food was just right for a late lunch in HK!
Being open during the off-hours between lunch and dinner is also a plus. So if you aren't expecting high end Cantonese, but still enough food for comfort, definitely check this place out.
