My wife had been craving On Lee's fish ball noodle soup for a while. Finally made it out during our last trip back to HK. Took a while to find though it was literally less than 2 blocks from the subway station which was sad since I was using google maps to navigate me. Expected to see a line but walked right in and in typical HK fashion, shares a round table with a few others. Not being a fan of fish balls, I opted for the marinated braised beef w/ dry noodles while the wifey ordered her normal fish ball noodles. The marinated braised beef had a good flavor but most of the beef was not tender as I had hoped for. It was almost as if it had been sitting and dried out which is my guess as to why it was chewy. The noodles on the other hand were amazing. Had a nice chewiness to them and with a little hot sauce was divine. Be careful with the hot sauce as it was pretty damn hot. The noodles were so impressive that we ended up making our way to sheung wan just to find their dried noodle shop. Why the shop isn't closer to the restaurant is beyond me.

My last meal in HK was a great one! My local friend took me here, at 10am on a weekday, so (fortunately) there was no line. I tried all the different meat and they're all good. I love the braised wide flat noodle (soup on the side). It's so goooood! While the menu shows a few selections, you can pretty much mix and match anything you see. So just ask.

I came here on a holiday, with a raging lion dance parade on the street in front of the restaurant, and with a long wait. It took some assertiveness and enduring of a prick of a FOH, but we managed a space after nearly an hour wait. The beef brisket wonton noodle soup was mostly good. The wontons were quite large for HK standards but tasted delicious as well. The shrimp/ground pork ratio was what I would expect in HK. The noodles had a good bite to them and the broth was savory. However, the brisket was forgettable. It was barely tender but it had no flavor at all. The fishball soup with flat noodles is comfort food for many and they do a wonderful job here. The nicely sweetened iced milk tea was relief on an oppressively hot day. Service was actually above-average for an HK restaurant. The waiter was patient and nice (maybe since we had a little girl in our party).

Combination of beef brisket, wonton, fishcake, beef ball, fish ball, and wide flat egg noodles in soup. With hot milk tea. Delicious!

YAAAS. Shout-out to the friend that recommended I come to this neighborhood noodle shop. It did not disappoint! I love the types of soup-noodle places that let you customize everything from your toppings, to the type of noodle, to whether you want your soup in the main bowl or on the side. I was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to communicate the exact order I wanted, but it turned out one of the younger staff knew English. There's also a good amount of decipherable pictures on the menu, plus photos from Yelp and Google Maps :) I ordered the combination beef brisket (got to choose from two types of cuts of brisket!), wonton (shrimp/pork), fishcake, beef ball, fish ball, wide flat egg noodles ("large egg noodles" I think was how he named it) in soup. The broth was savory and delicious. The noodles had the perfect texture and bite to them. It was great to try so many different yummy meats and fish on top. I will crave this bowl for years to come! It's walking distance from Shau Kei Wen MTR Station.

Although I have traveled here twice despite how far it is, it really is worth the traveling of the buses/trains. You also have to wait in line(make sure you go in and get your ticket), but it's relatively quick since its HK and you are forced to eat with other people as long as there is an open spot. Since it's a cantonese restaurants, they have all your typical hk style cafe drinks like milk tea and lemon tea. I do think that they give a relatively big amount compare to some places for their milk tea and my cousin(the one who took me here) thinks that their milk tea taste better than most places. I, however, don't think it taste that much better but just satisfied with the amount they give me. I still don't get why the standard HK cafe in LA can't seem to make milk tea like they can. Is it the water? Then there is the plain looking butter condense milk toast. It really is so simple but I just don't know why it taste sooo good. To the main point, "Lo Cho" is the way to go. I get the house combination where I get a bit of everything. You get a lot of beef slices, wontons, beef/fish balls, fish cake, and veggie. You get the soup on the side where I usually pour a little each time I take a full bite. All the proteins in the "Lo Cho" is great and all, but it is the noodles that really stands out from any other place. There is so much flavor to the noodles. It's nothing like those fish ball loin mein where there is no taste in the noodles at all. It's PACKED with flavors from the proteins to the noodles. I just can't rave enough about how amazing it is but yet it seems like such a simple dish. The pricing is pretty sweet as well and if you get the combination, you actually get FULL. No joke, I get so full from this "Lo Cho" that even if I wanted to walk down the street to try other food, it's pretty impossible. I'll never forget you "Lo Cho."

This is another place in Hong Kong with long tradition. This is the "new" shop. There is another On Lee serving almost the same food across the street which is the "old" shop. Due to a family feud they became rivals and part of the family opened the new shop. This is a typical Hong Kong fast food stall. It's simple, tables are cramped and it's noisy. Be prepared to share a table with people as they don't waste even one seat. But the food is good! Here it's all about beef brisket in all kinds of variations, fish cake, fish balls, toasts and of course noodles. It's packed especially during lunch, be prepared to wait in line. Try the old shop to compare. Inexpensive, great value for money.

Every time I go to Hong Kong, I make sure to visit On Lee Noodle. This place is absolutely delicious, however, there is a very long line. We (me and my mother) arrived on a weekday around noon, and had to wait approximately 40 minutes before we were seated. I think the food here is amazing and reasonably priced, but the food quality does not justify the long wait. Apparently, On Lee Noodle is on some sort of Michelin guide, which might explain why there is always a long line. However, if you show up before 11 am, you might not have to wait. The fish balls and the noodles are delicious. We ordered the fish ball/sliced fish cake/rice noodle soup, the short beef brisket/sliced fish cake/noodle soup, hot milk tea, and the butter/condensed milk toast. I loved every item that we ordered. 5 stars for the food, but if you're in a rush, On Lee Noodle might not be a good choice. Try going at an off-peak time!

Downtown restaurants Store ! Famous product is Fish paste into noodle . Neat soup is was delicious. I orderd that Condensed milk with plenty of toast dessert ,it was delicious. Food is much better and the shop is much smaller. The best local restaurant in hk island.

Great food near the bus station. was a great find . the noddles and brisket were awesome its not a tourist area so English was not great there but you Do not need, just point to what you want. the food came out very fast I would return Food - Excellent Service - Good Atmosphere- Good

Probably the best beef noodles I've had in Hong Kong, with a deliciously smoky broth and delightfully chewy tendon... They close early though... And queues begin around 11am on weekends so beware!

There are two lift areas to go up - one in the main lobby and one off to the right side, down a narrow hallway (best for when the main lifts are too busy). When talking to my friends about the best places for dim sum, establishments such as Maxim's Palace, Tim Ho Wan, Lei Garden, Dim Dim Sum and One Dim Sum pop up. But not many know about Ho Choi... Why is that? I'm actually not too sure myself. They have two branches in Sheung Wan/Sai Wan, which could be far for some, and one in Kwun Tong (which I frequent because it's close to where I work). Some say the original Ho Choi in Sheung Wan/Sai Wan is OK, nothing to special, so I decided to take a visit out to see if they were correct. (A separate review for the Sai Wan one will be posted soon!) But I can definitely vouch for Ho Choi in Kwun Tong to be one of my favorite places! The tables in the main area - that is, not in a "room" - are up for grabs, first come first serve. Get there before 12:10pm to beat the lunch crowd, or risk waiting for a while. The best thing, if you want to skip the wait, is to make a reservation for one of the tables in the "rooms" for ordering main dishes (小菜). You must order 3 or more main dishes when seated at those tables. But of course, you can still order dim sum there. Win-win! Also, because it's sectioned off from the main area, it's much quieter and more conducive to business lunches. While the prices for dim sum and main dishes have gone up in recent years (inflation, rental increases, etc), rest assured you are still getting your money's worth of delicious food! They used to have different price tiers - cheaper in the morning, standard rates during weekday lunch times, and higher prices on the weekends - but upon checking the prices during my last visit, it looks like they are now fixed. For 5 people, with 4 main dishes, and 6 dim sum plates, the total came to be just under HKD 700. Excellent bang for your buck! The tea charge is $12 per person, which is fairly standard. Dim sum plates are tiered, starting at $17 for 'small', up to $32-$35 for 'specialty' plates. Ordering the dim sum is very easy, as you just need to fill in a Scantron-like sheet (college throw-back eh?), with dishes listed in English and Chinese. I was asked to order for the table: - Crispy chicken (half) 脆皮雞 (半) - so crispy, so good! - Sweet and sour pork 咕嚕肉 - my first time ordering the 咕嚕肉 here and everyone raved about it! The freshly prepared sweet and sour pork is a game-changer here and puts those found at a buffet to shame. - Sauteed broccoli with scallops - need those vegetables and seafood! - E-fu noodles with shrimp and egg whites - I appreciate the lack of salt and strong flavors in this noodle dish, as it helps to balance out the other salty and heavy dishes. Thankfully no MSG! Dim sum on point. I'm already hungry for more, even from writing this review. Top favorites here are the BBQ pork buns, chicken feet with black bean sauce (my absolute favorite!), Chiu Chow dumplings (潮州粉粿), and Jin Deui sesame balls (煎堆). If you still have space for dessert, go for it. If you don't, still go for it.

To see these restaurants sprout like proverbial bamboo shoots after a spring rain is truly remarkable, since pretty much all of them are of an extremely high quality. Is there a chef factory hidden somewhere whence they are schooled and trained, overnight! As you saw from the pictures, the Chinese BBQ (some of it anyway) is done on premise, right through a window, with suckling pig and goose being their specialties, along with Chinese hot pot. When it's 81 out at 7 p.m., it's not quite hot pot season. A lot of their dishes are sort of variations or twists of once-familiar dishes - another trait of local restaurants, where everyone is trying to outdo each other in innovation (the filet, Chinese style, is an example. So why 4 stars? The stir-fries are a little on the greasy side for my taste, and there's generally too much added sugar creeping into too many dishes. The goose is fat and a bit chewy - unless you want your palate coated with goose grease, you'll feel the same as I do. This may be a function of the bird more than the method - which is why I prefer duck over goose. Price is mid-high side, but that's because seafood is so expensive. The main reason for less than the full-five-on is that this is in the context of all KINDS of competition. In Orlando, this could easily be a six-star spot!

As good as it gets" My relatives brought me here for dinner when I visited Hong Kong from the US (haven't been back since 1997). This place is in a fishing village/area, we took the subway and got off at the Yau Tong station, after asking around we got to the seafood area...it was a lot of walking to get to this specific restaurant. This restaurant is at the END of all the other ones along the shore. As you twist and turn to get here, you will pass by a bunch of stores that sell fresh seafood and many will hassle you into eating at their adjacent restaurants. One thing I noticed about ALL the stores is that nothing smelled "fishy"! There was not a stench in the air! I've always heard that fresh seafood does not smell fishy. This is the first time I understood what they were talking about. When we finally got to the restaurant, my family decided on the dishes they wanted, I'm not sure if it was because they knew the owner or if this was something you can ask for because we were walked back out to their tanks to pick out the fish, lobster, clams, etc that we wanted. It was a totally awesome experience. The food was nothing short of AMAZING! I have never had seafood this great in my entire 35 years of life and I live 10 minutes from the ocean in California. Everything was cooked perfectly and dishes were not overly seasoned so the flavor of the seafood really comes out. The "peeing" shirmp was soooooooo good, it was better than any Maine lobster I've had. Yes I just compared a shrimp to a lobster, it was that good! If there's anything I would recommend, it would be that and the jack knife clams. Price is a little on the high end especially given the cheap food prices in Hong Kong, but I can't wait to visit again.

My good friends would know I like anything kind of live seafood, just pick whatever.... Poached shrimps - Caridean shrimps size are pretty small but it tasted so fresh and sweet. Stir fried razor clams with black bean sauce - **my favourite dish** It cooked perfectly and so delicious. Steamed scallops with garlic and cellophane noodles - Scallop so fresh and mixed with garlic so tasty. Stir fried Jumbo mantis shrimp with garlic and chili - Mantis shrimp just a bit overcooked coz was a little bit chewy. But, I liked the smell with garlic and chili. Steamed Grouper - I loved steamed fresh fish, it cooked perfectly and fantastic. Steamed fresh Abalones - It is finest seafood! Abalone texture was firmed and clean aftertaste tasted. Thumbs up!! Chinese Mitten crabs - The season just started and we're in right timing to have mitten crabs. It's not meaty like Dungeness crab. It's custardy in texture and like sea urchin.. I also felt guilty to eat whole mitten crab coz it's quite high cholesterol. Gai Lan - it's great coz we should have more veggies (rich in fiber) and help for digestion. Fruits platter - The mango was so tasty and juicy and grapes were sweet too. I don't mind to come back next time for such good quality of dishes.
