If you are near here, eat here!…read more We were the only westerners in the restaurant, which gives a good hint about local quality. The menu had a LOT of items, each numbered and with short descriptions in English. Everything was, as you'd expect, served family style. We had the hot and sour soup, some veggie dumplings, shredded beef with vegetables, shrimp in chili sauce, all served with tea. Each was fantastic! Seriously. Not good. Not great. Fantastic! There was enough soup for four, which magically disappeared from our table for two. We cleaned every plate, and not because the servings were anything short of generous. The service was also great, while a bit hovering as they seemed worried about how we might handle everything. For one, I was happy they noticed us struggling while making a mess trying to shell the shrimp, bringing us a knife and fork (and extra wet-wipes). Interesting to me, this was the first time we each had two sets of chopsticks. Thankfully, the internet quickly taught us that one set was for serving ourselves from the community plates, and the other for eating. Don't use the eating pair for serving or the serving pair for eating -- it is bad form, especially with COVID being so huge here. Note: they are happy to bring serving spoons, forks and knives if you ask (or appear hopeless). My other mistake, in addition to the shrimp peeling fiasco, was not tipping. When I saw the 10% service fee, and knowing tipping is totally optional and not expected in Hong Kong (and most of SE Asia), I still should have left a bit more, especially considering how helpful they were.

And dedicated little eateries would take these fresh seafood and create the freshest morsels your imagination can conjure - fish balls, noodles, crispy fried fish skin, you name it. Years have passed and this early settlement still remains one of the best seafood ports and places for good old fashioned food in Hong Kong. But today, we're not actually going to talk about that. Also situated in Aberdeen is this low key Shanghai eatery. The standards that you apply at glossy high end Shanghaiese restaurants DO NOT apply here, there is nothing glamorous here; this is old-fashioned down-to-earth cooking with a wide selection of seasonal dishes. Good? No doubt. Some examples. Their xiaolongbun is made in the shop and best eaten hot! You'll be disappointed if you'll looking for Din Tai Fung style thin skin though. What they have here is thick floury chewy skin with the freshly steamed aromas that bring you straight back to your childhood Shanghai days, if you had that (I don't) The filling is just as meaty and succulent as most. Time to appreciate different shapes and sizes. If you're not too adamant on tiny delicate details, Teen Long Lao 天龍樓 will bring the Shanghai back in you with their no fuss good old fashioned food.

I went here last here on my visit to HK and this was the one restaurant I wanted to return to this year. Not only were the Xiao long baos filled with juice, but so were the potstickers. When we got back to the US, my daughter said she was craving those noodles! I like that the minimum orders for the xiao long baos is four and the potstickers is three so you don't have to order too much. The restaurant was very clean and modern. A hidden gem!

My favorite meal during our stay in Hong Kong!…read more We arrived a few minutes before they opened at 11:30am. They had lots of tables available. They gave us an English menu and we were starving so we ordered a bunch of things. Everything was pretty delicious, but a couple items really stood out: XIAO LONG BAO - The best xiao long bao I've ever had. The skin was thin and delicate and the filling and soup were so savory and delicious. I had two and ordered another set just for me. I didn't even really need the sauce. :D PAN FRIED POTSTICKERS - This was super tasty and juicy inside, but watch out.. it's HOT! SPICY CHILI WONTONS - Not spicy, but the chili sauce was super flavorful. This restaurant wasn't in our itinerary, but I'm so glad we decided to go here. We were all extremely happy with the meal.

Loved them. They make the buns right there in front of you, rolling and wrapping each one by hand before pan-frying them. The bottom was golden and properly crisp, while the top stayed soft and slightly chewy. Inside was a juicy, savory pork filling with a surprising amount of hot broth, almost like a xiao long bao but with that wonderful crispy bottom. The black and white sesame seeds on top added a nice toasted flavor too. They're quite rich, so two pieces were enough for a quick snack, but I completely understand why these are so popular. Just be careful with the first bite because the soup inside is seriously hot! Quick service and it's a stall so simple vibe and ambience Simple, freshly made and delicious.
