Tai Hing - easy to locate purple signs

Recent trip to HK - had breakfast 2x and lunch 2x (different branch) at Tai Hing. My last visit to HK - I fell in love with their dinner menu, especially the eggplant w chicken & salted fish. Their Milk Tea is a must have! Hot or cold! (Cold adds $3 HKD), most meal (set) comes with a milk tea. Breakfast items - love the meal!! preserved veggies w/ slice pork over vermicelli in soup, comes w/ toast and scrambled eggs and a milk tea. 2nd favorite has to be instant noodle with eggs & luncheon meat/spam! Lunch fav items - Pork chop over rice w/ 2 over easy eggs and milk tea; also the Salmon fried rice was a good choice as well! Service is OK by HK standard - not stellar (they managed to forget 2 meals for a table of 8). Prices are cheap compared to what we would end up paying in NYC! Definitely a HK Cha Chun Tang staple - worth a visit!

We chanced upon this restaurant because it was one block from the hotel. We were on our way to another restaurant recommended by the concierge, but we saw all the people dining here and waiting outside. That's always a good sign, so we decided to try it out the next evening. It took about a 10 minute wait to get a table, so it wasn't bad at all. They try to turn the tables, so all the patrons know not to dawdle. We had four dishes during our visit. The first was pork belly braised in preserved vegetables. This was just ok. there were plenty of vegetables, but the dish was not as flavorful as I had expected. Plus, the pork was extremely fatty and didn't have much actual meat. The second dish was the steamed fish. This was much better. It was fresh and had lots of meat. The sauce was good and not too salty. Next was bitter melon with beef. It was flavorful, the melon was cooked just right and had a great wok flavor. The last dish was a dual BBQ pork and roast goose plate. The pork was tender and spiced just right. We had goose a few days ago at Chan Kee, but we wanted to try it there again. I think it was better here. The goose had crispy skin and was not as fatty. Tai Hing is worth a visit for a meal if you are traveling to the area.

Breakfast set E: instant ramen with luncheon meat and scrambled egg

Hong Kong style cafes serving eggs, toast, and instant ramen set breakfasts are the norm. They're filling and very affordable, generally ranging $50 HKD or less per meal. Plus, these cafes are generally open early morning around 6am and run until midnight - very accommodating hours for everyone! However, most of the time, food from these cafes are all too similar and don't consist of any standout specialty items. I had the breakfast set E: instant ramen noodles with luncheon meat (similar to spam), scrambled egg, and a couple pieces of gai lan. The meal overall was filling and salty, but nothing notable or exciting. It came with a cup of hot milk tea, which is another standard to these HK style cafes. I would upgrade to the chilled version though. Service was very quick, and given how busy Tai Hing gets during breakfast on weekends, I wouldn't expect anything but speedy service. This place fills up fast too, so come early. The large restaurant also has very roomy, spacious booth seating, something much appreciated here and rare in smaller Hong Kong eateries.

A tasty 3.888 stars, especially if you like their signature drink, cold tea drink or whatever, don't know exact translation, know the Cantonese, but the following pic should suffice. Not too sweet & quite flavourful. So was the roasted BBQ pork, came with a mustard dressing which I didn't care for, original is always better. Who the heck can eat steak with HB sauce?! Roasted geese good too. While they don't have a liquor license, they sure allow you to bring in some beer from 7/11, no corkage fees, cool lol. Yes, very tight booths. Squatting toilets. But overall, a clean restaurant chain that I won't hesitate returning.

From past experience, this fast food chain is good and this store is particularly good. Situated in the heart of Mong Kok, packed with local customers and tourists from Mainland China. This is an afternoon set. This bowl of noodles reminds me of nissin instant noodles flavour in a cool way, which is delicious. The marinated pork spare ribs were juicy and tasty. It may take hours to prepare to this state of tenderness. Texture of the noodles is chewy and harmonious with the soup. The soup is partly covered with oil from the ribs. The hot Ovaltine is rich and not too sweet. Self- catering: Food utensils are in drawer of the the table. A thermal jug of hot water is on table for self-service.

The broth for the hot noodles tasted great though : light, not overly seasoned, tasted like the kind of broth you'd make at home. My husband said the cold soba was nothing special. We then finished our meal off with the matcha jelly (flown in daily from Kyoto!), which was really good, definitely full of matcha flavor and went well with the ice cream and red bean paste. My husband gave the matcha ice cream two thumbs up. 90 min dining limit and everyone must order one item. No free wifi. HSBC credit card holders get a discount.

It's already a huge thing in Hong Kong, with at least one matcha dessert store at every mall. When I found out that a well known matcha chain, Nakamura Tokichi, was opening up its first branch in HK, I made it a point to plan to visit and give it a try. Unsurprisingly, as with all well known restaurants in Hong Kong, there was a fairly long wait even on a Wednesday. I had to wait almost two hours to get a table for six people. When we were finally seated, we were presented with complimentary green tea and a menu filled with delicious goodies. I tried the green tea almost immediately, and already I was floored. Most green tea tastes fairly bland and generic, but this green tea was incredibly rich and flavorful. As to be expected from a matcha restaurant with as prestigious a reputation as Nakamura Tokichi. We shared several matcha and hojicha parfaits, a hojicha ice cream, and I got the kyo no fukiyose, which contained several different things including chiffon cake, matcha ice cream, red bean, whipped cream, and mochi. The parfaits were incredibly rich and elegant. Cereal was added to the red bean and ice cream, and the flavors all blended together perfectly. The chiffon cake was sweet yet light. The red bean was a real delight, not too sweet, and balanced out the sweetness of the hojicha and matcha ice cream incredibly well. In just one experience, I can see why Nakamura Tokichi is one of the most well known matcha restaurants in Hong Kong. It lives up to its own hype in many ways.
